Touching coming of age tale from Spielberg
Semi-autobiographical film of a film crazy boy formative years with a moving performance from Michelle Williams as his Mother.

A beautiful and gentle piece of cinematography - under valued
Ok, so this isn’t a high octane action film, but very worth a watch if you're interested in finding out about the influences that shaped Stephen Spielberg’s career in the film industry.Beautiful cinematography, well cast and directed. The sets create a great atmosphere. It’s a slow burn, keeps coming back into my consciousness.Could perhaps have been a little shorter/or a little more about the early years in Hollywood.

In one word, Disappointing.
I think like many people I had expected too much from this movie. The film was slow starting then when it finally got going and started to drag you in it was over !There were some funny little moments along the way but I was left wondering what all the hype had been about and questioning why I paid £9.99 for a DVD that I wouldn't want to watch again and I couldn't pass on to anyone else to enjoy, it has therefore been assigned to the charity bag.

OUTSTANDING
Believed to be a, if but loosely, an autobiographical telling ofSteven Spielberg's adolescent years, the film sometimes funnysometimes poignant as we see Sam Fableman's (Gabriel LaBelle) development an early intertest in filming leading to making earlyarmature movies. We see his family move home frequently because of his father'sBurt's ( Paul Dano) career advances, ending-up in California.Sam lives with his father, mother Mitzi (Michelle Williams) andSisters, early on Sam's Uncle Benny (Seth Rogan) who as time passeswill not be well thought of as he once was, will be almost everpresent in family life. When starting high-school in California, Sam experiences prejudicefor being Jewish, but one girl Monica befriends him. With his ability behind a camera, he will win many over however.Sadness will fall upon the Fableman's, life will never be the same.A superb movie mapping the early interest and rise at a young agetoward a movie-making career.A coming-of-age film that is definitely compelling viewing with greatvisual quality on the 4k format

Definitely worth the watch
We were at home on a Saturday evening with nothing we wanted to watch on regular TV so we streamed The Fablemans. It was a good growing-up story well told and both my wife and I enjoyed it. There was a touching point for me in that my cousin was a teenage filmmaker who had similar enthusiasm and obsession to developing the craft. The film is definitely worth the watch.

Spielberg as unriable narrator
Terrific little movie which Steven spielberg looks back at his home life and parents divorce to the anti-Semitism off a few morons at high school.Criticism of the movie missed the point that spielberg was never going to re-open painful scars, but instead gives the audience an opportunity to view parts of his life he wants to share and the power of leaving out material.Empire of the sun, the color purple and minority report, catch me if you can are all directly linked to this movie. With their misremembered images and by the situations we remember and howA great little movie and worth two hours of your lifeMichelle Williams shines as Spielberg's screen mother as does Paul Dano as his father.A brilliant cast of largely unknowns excellent and judd Hirsch parachuted in as uncle Boris in a telling & pointed cameo.Seek out well worth the watch
