On 27th November 2013 Simple Minds played a very special concert and filmed it at the brand new award-winning venue the SSE Hydro Glasgow, the first concert to be filmed there. Filmed in HD, this Blu-Ray package features a 93 minute edit of the concert unavailable elsewhere, and a booklet containing a selection of beautiful photos of the occasion. To an enthusiastic home audience, the band delivers rousing versions of hit after hit after hit.

Great Concert but why Edit It?
Great concert but the best tracks such as Fear of Gods and Hunter and the Hunted have been edited out. I am a bit confused as to why they edited this as I have the full version and it actually runs brilliantly. Considering that they are finally getting the long overdue plaudits they deserve mostly for the non stadium stuff it does seem a bit odd to delete these records from the version that they have released. I hope it was not a marketing ploy to extract £50.00 from fan club members some of which will also buy the edited version, quite honestly how much money do Kerr & Co need? That apart it is a very enjoyable concert and a must have for all Simple Minds fans out there.

Finally the greatest band on the planet in stunning HD
Finally the greatest band on the planet in stunning HD. I was at this concert and it's a night (like many other Simple Minds nights) I will never forget. The Blu Ray and DVD are a great momento of a great night. The full unedited version (which I also have) was available as a limited edition DVD through the bands official website earlier in the year, but is now unavailable. However this edited version is also fantastic. Excellent picture, Excellent sound, Excellent music!

Celebrate? Yeah, why not!
This may sound a bit controversial, but this is one of these shows that is probably best listened to, rather than watched! Don't get me wrong - the visual experience/Blu Ray is very good, it's the audio 'sync' that sometimes annoys me. Far too many of the tracks are very obviously a mixture, where the video and audio are edited from different shows - it's why you very rarely get any shots of instrument playing/vocal delivery of more than a few seconds, because there would be a 'mismatch' in the picture sync (I've seen some shots where you hear JK or SB singing, but the mouth is not near the mic!) and there is probably a reason for this - were the band not happy with what was produced 'on the night'? A well used post-production term is "we'll fix it in the edit" and I suspect this was uttered a few times. Some have already commented about 'heavy editing' and I agree. It's also very strange that only one audio track is offered on this DVD (others give as many as 3 or 4) & perhaps this DVD could have been improved with a few more audio options and/or better 'mixing'. I never saw this tour live, so cannot comment on any apparent ommissions on the setlist, but I naturally gravitate towards material from the late 70's/early 80's, so was pleased that such as I Travel, The American etc were present. I did enjoy the recently released "Big Music" album and there are a couple of tracks from that album showcased here. I last saw the boys live way back in the 80's (at the SECC) and probably enjoyed that gig better than this one - mind you (no pun intended) we were all younger! Though I've been critical of the way this show has been produced/edited, it is still good to see an internationally acclaimed Scots band in front of a large 'home' crowd delivering a good set - gone yersel son!

Great band
This is such a great concert from great band. This is not only for Simple Minds fans, this blu ray is for any music fans. Concert is visually breathtaking and it's a shame that some tracks are missing from the original show (especially Hunter & The Hunted, Speed Your Love To Me Electro Version). Highlights on this show are definitely Someone Somewhere In Summertime, The American, Love Song and great instrumental Theme For Great Cities. Great band & great concert.

Simple Minds at their best
The Bluray is fantastic. It has been edited beautifully and I really like the introductory shots of the helicopter flight to the hydro along the Clyde. It captures the concert beautifully. A must buy for any Simple Minds fan.

Overall it is good to have a Simple Minds live show in HD but let down by poor Blu Ray
I have seen Simple Minds a few times over the years and was eagerly looking forward to this one arriving on Blu Ray. The review from Fleece was great in terms of pointing out the track listing (real shame they did not have Belfast Child included in the set/disc) and my copy arrived from Amazon and was straight on to the player.Sound quality is very good - what is not indicated anywhere is the fact that the disc has a 5.1 lossless PCM track and it sounds good. Perhaps a touch bright but good. Always remember the intro to Waterfront from the Verona DVD and this was a shorter version but still a brilliant way to start a show. Picture quality had me worried for a while as it was Black and White and felt like an arty decision had been taken to show the whole thing this way but quickly in to colour once Waterfront got going. Picture quality is very sharp for both close ups and crowd shots. The set was well lit and this makes for a great record of a Simple Minds show.Where I feel the Blu Ray is let down (apart from the editing pointed out by Fleece in the other review here) is the £10 or so the producers must have spent on authoring the Blu Ray. There are chapter stops and if you press the remote control button to get you back to the main menu you can select a track this way but how much effort would it have taken to include the usual pop-up menu options so you can view the show then select the next track you want to view without having to stop the disc, return to main menu and select track. Rubbish approach and just shows a lack of quality control or ability by the producers in making sure the basic features of Blu Ray are not available to consumers.Otherwise I would give 4x stars for the performance and show (less 1 star for the editing of some tracks) and 2 stars for the bare bones Blu Ray production so an overall 3 stars it is!Overall though it is worth buying and great to see Simple Minds in HD but wish some more care could have been taken.

Simple Minds have to be one of the best groups of the Eighties
Simple Minds have to be one of the best groups of the Eighties. This concert is amazing! It played on my blu-ray player. I was nervous that it would not after reading some reviews before I bought it. The band is in great form here and the picture and sound are great too.

Great performance by a great live band
Simple Minds has always been an excellent live band and this show proves they haven't lost their edge over the years. Video and audio quality are great, as is the setlist. The direction does not suffer from the rapid cuts that mar so many concert films. The energy is in the performance, and the director captures it well. Some reviews that I've read elsewhere indicate that this disc is "Region B." It played just fine on my "Region A" player. Since the packaging makes no mention of regions, I'm guessing it is region free. There is no bonus material on the disc, but I'm not complaining. The performance is well worth the price.
