Gorgeous Fireplace Doors & Easy to Install
We needed to replace our old brass fireplace doors and this was a perfect choice. These doors are gorgeous, great fit and finish, high quality, easy to install and reasonably priced. We originally purchased a black set by the same manufacturer at a cheaper price but decided to upgrade to these doors. Glad we did, the look and details are worth the price. Comparable doors sell for $1,000 or more at local fireplace stores. The doors are made of a high quality metal with a nice thick dark bronze or expresso finish. They are packed and shipped extremely tight, it would be very hard to re-pack if you think you might return it. Upon arrival, nothing broken and no missing parts. The unit comes 95% assembled. The glass doors and mesh panels are already installed. Installation of the unit is a breeze. Install the door handles, line the inside with the included fiberglass insullation, and assemble/hand-tighten the brackets on the inside top and sides and you're done! Absolutely no drilling. There's even a YouTube video on how to install it (search: Installation -- Pleasant Hearth Fireplace Glass Door ). The doors open and close like cabinet doors and secure tightly with a magnet catch. Once installed, the fit is tight and should prevent about 90% of home heat loss when the doors are closed. Directions warn not to have a fire with the glass doors closed as they could break. The glass is tempered but not made to withstand extreme heat. We have a red brick fireplace, home built in the 30's and the front or face of our fireplace is flat so the unit is flush against the brick. If your front/face is not flat but rather with large round stone, this unit may not fit the best. Also, just make sure you measure your opening correctly and that your measurements fall within the Height and Width restrictions of the unit. If they do, it will be a perfect fit. If you're looking for a really nice set of bronze fireplace doors, I highly recommend these, very well worth the price. Enjoy!

Pleasant Hearth Doors - Very good
My wife and I were looking for a replacement fireplace with glass cabinet style doors. We formerly had a bi-fold type door for 26 years and it was time to replace it since the former screen and doors were well worn. We went to several local fireplace stores yet the cost was too prohibitive or the style or selection just was not to our liking. We found Pleasant Hearth on the web via Amazon and found the unit to be reasonably priced and attractive. The new unit came in a few days. The unit was packaged well and no breakage. The installation instructions were good, but like any home project you should be a bid handy and take your time to be sure you follow the installation instructions so that you can enjoy the work of your labor without incident later. To our pleasant surprise the unit is very well constructed and has four connect points to our masonary fireplace, two at the top and two (each anchor on the sides of the fireplace mason opening one on the left-hand and the other on the right-hand side). No missing parts, however since our fireplace was a bit older, the top anchors that were formerly there for the former fireplace had to be used with the new hardware. This was our only challenge. Other than that, my wife and I really enjoy the yule-log look and the safely of closing the doors when the fire has died down at night keeping the cold out (due to an open flue) and the warmth of the house in.

Looks great, but you'll need more insulation!
We are very happy with these fireplace doors! They look beautiful and were a great replacement for the 30 year old doors that we had before. Couple thoughts I'd like to share that will hopefully help some people out.1. The doors are much darker in person. In a dimly lit root, they look almost black. My wife says they are exactly what she expected. From the picture, I expected more of a bronze look.2. The section on how to choose which bracket assembly you're going to use is confusing. The best thing to do is try out either assembly A or B and if it doesn't fit, try the other way. It makes more sense when you actually go to install them and you'll figure it out.3. With our installation, the holes for the pressure brackets were not visible after putting the door in place and attaching the lintel clamps. This caused us to have to remove the lintel clamps, position the pressure brackets and then tighten everything. Not a big deal, just watch out for this.4. After a couple months of use, we noticed that whenever the outside temperature warmed up above 40 degrees, the whole house would smell like our fireplace. When we looked closer at the doors, we realized that they don't create a very good seal between the doors and the brick. The instructions say if you prefer more insulation, you can purchase it separately. You are going to want to absolutely do this! I can not stress this enough, BUY MORE INSULATION!!! The provided insulation is only for insulating the door itself. It is not designed to create a seal around the door. We went to our local fireplace store and bought a role of self-adhesive fiberglass insulation. We removed the door and placed the insulation around the top and side edges the door, leaving about a 1/4 inch from the very edge to prevent the insulation from being visible once the door was in place. We put the door back in place and sat it on another strip of insulation to seal the bottom and tightened everything back up. After tightening, the insulation filled into the gaps just as we had hoped. We used a plastic putty knife on the bottom to push the insulation out of sight. Previously if you shined a flashlight from the inside of the fireplace against the sides you could clearly see the light shining out. Now there's no more light. So we hope that means no more smell. Just waiting for another warm day to test it out. Worst case, we'll try some high heat silicone, but hopefully we won't need it.The original installation took us a couple hours because we wanted to be extra careful. The addition of the extra insulation took about another hour. An adult helper is a good idea because these doors are heavy and they will swing open on you if you tip the unit even slightly. Once installed it's rock solid.

Beautiful appearance, high quality.
I thought about getting a fireplace insert, but I like the ambiance of an open fire so I purchased this fireplace glass door. My fireplace opening is 36.5 inches wide, so I purchased the large unit and it fit well. The unit was very well packaged. Installation went smoothly and instructions were clear -- installed in a little more than an hour. There are 2 brackets that clamp the unit to the lintel at the top; the brackets can be oriented in two ways, but instructions are clear. The product description says that the fireplace opening for the large unit must be 36 - 43 inches wide. There are 2 lower brackets that tighten the bottom of the unit to the fireplace. With my 36.5" wide fireplace, I found that the holes in the unit were just between the unit and the fireplace brick, so it was necessary to pull the unit out at the bottom slightly to get the lower bracket to fit. Once the bracket was fit into the holes in the unit, the unit was pushed back against the brick and the screws tightened against the side of the brick. This sounds more complicated that it really is -- remember, I installed the unit in a little over and hour. The unit is quite eloquent in appearance and appears to be of high quality. The glass doors open all the way (almost 180 degrees), while the inner screens open a little more than 90 degrees (perhaps 120 degrees?) so you get a full view of the fire. According to the instructions, you can not close the glass doors when you have a strong fire going. We usually wait until there are no flames and only glowing embers before we close the glass doors. In that way we minimize loss of heat up the chimney.

Nice doors but had to fix one of them
QualityThe doors are beautiful and seem to be very good quality, but I had to fix one of them. The glass slipped and was covering the holes for the handle, which is a common problem in other reviews. I pried out the clips between the glass and the door frame with a flat head screwdriver and slid the glass down. I then screwed on the handle and pounded the clips back in place with a rubber mallet. I called customer service and the manufacturer was ready to send out a new door no questions asked. However, I hate to put something in a landfill if I can fix it.InstallationThe doors are very easy to install. The first set took 30 minutes and I could have installed the second set in 15 minutes if not for the glass problem. I used extra insulation but I'm not sure it was necessary. I will also seal the doors with high heat silicone.SizeThere are 3 sizes -- large (33x43), medium (33x37), and small (30x37). You can get more information at ghpgroupinc.com. I bought one large and one small. The large size covers more of my fireplace tile but provides a larger opening. The door opening is the same size as the opening on my fireplace, however the holes for the bottom brackets are hidden and I can't attach them. The top brackets hold it securely, however there isn't a good seal at the bottom. With the small size, the door frame covers some of my fireplace opening, however I can attach the bottom brackets. The height measurements above contain the 2 inch riser which you can also choose not to attach if you like.Insulation ValueI bought these because I have chimney top dampers and didn't want my heat going all the way up the chimney. Also one of my fireplaces is really drafty. However, these doors are not sealed. They will leak air around the doors and around the frame (unless you caulk it). But having a few cracks around the doors rather than a large opening is probably better. If you have a draft problem you may still want to get a chimney balloon or stuff a trash bag with some insulation. I also found that I needed to replace my clean out door because the latch was broken. My point is you may need to do multiple things if you have a draft problem.Price and shippingI ordered two sets of doors from Amazon Warehouse. One set had a few scratches, although they were supposed to be like new. I kept them because of the price ($230) and may try to touch them up. The other doors ($280) had a gouge in the mesh. I returned them at the seller's cost with UPS pickup. Even at the regular Amazon price ($330), the doors are much cheaper than Home Depot ($419) and Lowe's ($409).

Well made and looks terrific
This is a sturdily-constructed fireplace screen that works well and enhances the looks of the fireplace, as you can see from the attached photo. It is somewhat heavy and needs to be handled with care. It helps to view a YouTube video about how to install it. Although the video shows a woman installing it herself, I found that it is a lot easier with two people lifting it from either side. It also helps to have someone else hold it while you attach the brackets that secure it to the fireplace opening because, with the doors open, it wants to fall into the room and it would be hard to hold it while you are also sticking your head inside to install the brackets. Although the picture on the website shows a fire blazing with the glass doors closed, there are warnings on the packaging that the doors should be open to prevent the glass from shattering from the heat. This means that the doors stick out farther into the room than other fireplace screens that have two-piece doors that fold against the fireplace wall on either side of the screen. But the one piece design feels sturdier than screens I have had with bi-fold doors, and it allows for a more attractive appearance when they are closed. I'm not sure what they mean by the oil-rubbed bronze finish but it is smooth and looks like powder-coated. My biggest concern was getting the right size. My fireplace opening is 36" wide by 30" high and the large size fits perfectly. My main reason for buying this was to be able to shut the doors at the end of the night while the last embers were still smoldering in order to prevent heat loss up the flue. I also was concerned about having some sort of barrier to stop burning pieces of wood from falling off the grill and rolling into the room. I think this fireplace screen will perform both functions well. I've been in this house for 22 years and I wish I had bought this sooner.

Great Customer Service by GHP Group, Inc
I was a little hesitant to order such a large item through Amazon, mostly because if you have a problem getting to a real person who can actually expedite a solution is troblesome, but I took the chance, First I am very happy with this fireplace surround/door. It is solidly made, no cheap materials and it looks great. We did have a problem when we went to install it. The first step is to screw the handles onto each door. First door went fine...second door not so fine. The glass had been place in it frame and was set in place so that the screws for the handle could not go through the frame to screw into the handle. Very discouraging! We tried to move the glass, but everything was riveted into place. I callded the company and they promptly sent a new door, no quibbling. In preparation for the replacement door we removed the defective door. I was going to take it to our local dump, but thought I might just as well give it a sharp rap in the floor to see if the glass would drop onto its correct placement. I dropped it 6" or so onto a a rug. Did this a couple times and there was a snap....thought I had broke the glass....but no, the glass had slipped into its correct placement! I called the company to get them to stop the order, but they had expedited it and even though they tried to stop the shipment it arrive a few days ago. I called them and they are sending FEDEX out tomorrow to pick it up and return it. NO charge to us! The company's customer service was top notch. After putting the door back on the frame the rest of the installation went smoothly.

Very solid and beautiful doors
These doors are a very dark bronze color and extremely solid. They look and feel very high-quality, comparable to the doors we saw in a specialty shop for three times the price. We got the large size and used the riser to make the whole look more balanced within our brick fireplace. We have a metal lintel so installation was not very hard, although it did take two of us -- one to hold the doors in place while the other scrambled inside the fireplace to tighten the screws against the lintel. We did watch the YouTube installation video, which helped, and my husband said the written instructions were actually quite good. We're very very pleased with our purchase and the exceptional value we got. What we paid to buy the doors on Amazon and install them ourselves is equivalent to what the specialty store wanted just for their measurement and installment service. We would have been out an additional $600-$1000 easy if we'd gone the specialty route, and probably wound up with as good a result. Highly recommend.

Quick delivery and easy installation.
I was surprised how quickly these doors arrived. Delivered directly to my house. They were easy to install and I am very happy with them. I am glad I ordered the larger doors as they just fit the fireplace. They look great but are darker than the image.
