I bought this Playmobil Skatepark set for my young grandson’s birthday and my son likes it too! I know it will last as my son still has Playmobil vehicles he played with as a child!

My son was thrilled with this. So many different unique things involved in this set so endless play opportunities.

Our son has been enjoying one of the smaller finger skating Lego sets almost like a fidget toy, finding it fun and apparently quite relaxing to do skate stunts from the safety of his own bedroom. So the City-scale skate park was very warmly received and got instant attention, and so far it hasn’t disappointed. For a set of this size, it’s a remarkably easy build. There’s not a lot of structure to it, and the structure there is is fiddly and precise and made of small pieces. It feels odd not to end up with more of a walled building or a vehicle, which we’re accustomed to from other sets. In that respect it reminds me quite a lot of Minecraft sets, where the sets are so prescriptive about matching the look of the Minecraft brand that they don’t end up being all that true to the Lego brand. There’s less of that problem here, but it does end up being a little unimpressive-looking as a finished build for the price. There’s a decent number of accessories and mini-figures though, and I like the variety for the most part. The stunt skater with a prosthetic leg is a nice touch that adds a little diversity, but the lack of variety in skin tone is a little disappointing- it does sometimes feel like Lego only feel like they only need to tick one diversity box per set, and they really could and should be a bit more ambitious sometimes with their inclusivity. The kid-friendly graffiti stickers are a nice touch, and there’s something endearingly generation-spanning about the inclusion of a 1980’s-style boombox alongside the modern smartphone- so you can pretend it’s Bluetooth streaming, or you can pretend it’s playing cassette tapes, depending on your age. We only have one other piece of the new style road plate so far so we haven’t been able to integrate this set into a bigger City build, but I’m fairly fond of the new road plates in principle, even if the older ones are still a classic part of my youth. For the current asking price of fifty quid, this is an average-value set by Lego standards- there may be plenty of pieces, but it doesn’t have as much ‘wow’ factor or challenge as a finished build as I would’ve liked to see from a set in this price range. It will still definitely appeal to young Lego-building skate fans though.
