Audio-Technica AT-SB727 Sound Burger Portable Bluetooth Turntable, Black

This turntable is compact, lightweight, and easy to use. For the money it sounds very very good. I have connected it with ease to my headphones and Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Plus both wired and wirelessly. In my compact living room it's a great way to add vinyl that fills the room without adding more furniture. I bought a separate case for it that I found here and also stashed if you cables and adapters in the pouch within it. Battery life is outstanding. It has very little self noise for the price. Bluetooth connection is quick although visual feedback is pretty minimal. The stylison cartridge are not entirely modular, meaning that upgrading them is basically a non-starter as they use a headshell/cartridge specifically for this unit. I wish the top lid were a bit more dense or had more metal instead of a plasticky build. The mini "platter" is awesome, however. Start and stop is very quick for the price. It also works great with true wireless earbuds... I have the momentum true wireless 4 and it basically sounds wired. It's wild!

I have limited storage and table space, but also wanted something to listen to the LPs I have, and to audition used vinyl purchases. The Sound Burger is a perfect solution, and I have been extremely happy with its performance so far. The tracking and play quality is excellent. It pairs easily with my Klipsch bluetooth speakers (I have both a One and a Three), and sounds beautiful. When I'm done, I just pop it into a case (purchased separately; the Hermitshell hard case made for the Fujitsu ScanSnap fits my Sound Burger perfectly) and it fits compactly on a shelf, with a *much* smaller footprint than a conventional turntable. Charging and battery life are good (I haven't yet run out of battery, so don't know how long cordless operation lasts per charge; several hours at least; and if you leave the cord plugged in, you don't need to worry about it). Even a visiting, audiophile family member (with two high end turntables) was very intrigued and impressed with the Sound Burger, and is thinking about getting one as a travel solution for LP listening. Its a cool gadget with great sound.

Extremely good sound production and potability with an easy use of 3.5-mm connections and supposed Bluetooth issues. I have hadl no issues. Do attend to the locking screw as it is vital to not see it displaced or lost. I do wish that should the people at Audiotechnica make any change, they might add a lever to raise and lower the tone arm for better ease of placement of the toneam to the LP in use.

Perfectly compact, very impressed. My kid wanted a way to listen to vinyl in his room but really lacked the space for a full sized turntable. This packs away neatly in a Casematics case, takes up next to no space and can be brought anywhere. Not mad at the sound quality either. My kid likes so much that it can connect to analog speakers or to his Bluetooth speaker or AirPods. He’s already thanked me for it 4-5 times, it’s a real hit. I remember these from the 80s! So glad they’ve brought them back!

This is a replacement review on the replacement unit I received yesterday. The first unit I got had really bad flutter. I’m happy to say the replacement works flawlessly. Well, it’s got its flaws, but more on that later. I would rate this 4 1/2 stars as is, but some things need improvement. This players produces excellent sound, both over Bluetooth, and the wired line out. It’s easy to operate, once you figure out you have to remove the transport locking screw on the back of the unit. I like that the included 45 adapter does triple duty as a record clamp for 12” records, and as a tone arm rest when the player is not in use. The clamp hold the larger discs securely against the tiny platter. It’s a lot of fun using this, and I’ve been playing a lot of 45s the past 2 days. I wanted this to hook up to a shelf system in my living room, to test out boxes of 45s I have that have not yet been played. It’s great that it has a rechargeable battery for portability. I may just take this outside with some records to play through my Bluetooth speaker. So beside the fact that I love this for its sound quality, moving magnetic cartridge that won’t ruin your records, mine tracks at 3.32 grams, not really terrible, portability and the “cuteness” factor, there are a few shortcomings that prevented a 5 star rating. I hope Audio Technica will fix these flaws. 1) The platter needs to be raised a little higher. There is barely any clearance between the record and the case. Perfectly, or near perfectly flat records will be fine, but if you have any warped records, they may drag on the case. Increasing the platter height will help with this. 2) The cartridge holder needs to be redesigned because it also prevents even slightly warped records from playing properly. There is barely any clearance between the record and the back end of the cartridge holder where it is screwed into the tone arm. I don’t know why there is a little protrusion at the back, which leaves barely any space between the record and that little bump. Even slightly uneven records will scrape against that bump. Warped records sometimes won’t play due to the scraping and skipping. 3) Auto shutoff at the end of the record. While it’s not a dealbreaker, it would be nice to have. 4) A tone arm lever to raise and lower the tone arm. With the tight space between the record and the cartridge holder, it’s not always easy to lift and lower the tone arm without scratching your records, especially if, like me, you have fat fingers. Having said all this, I still absolutely adore this little record player. If AT decides to take my advice and fix the 4 issues I listed, it would be nothing short of a 5 star winner.

How about: a turntable that can live in a desk drawer with a Bluetooth speaker and still show up to be the life of the party?!? Excellent sound on the Bluetooth (with effortless pairing), usb-c charging, line level outputs to use with anything with 3.5mm or RCA inputs, surprisingly minimal crosstalk or wow/flutter and best-of-the-1980s styling…what’s not to like? Sure, a tone arm lift would be a useful improvement…volume control? That goes on your amp and not your pre amp. Auto lift and stop? Well, that never stood in the way of the legendary AR turntable Gettinger High marks, did it? I wondered how good this unit would handle vinyl famous for dynamic range and really tried to make it Fail with a go-to: Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon Amazingly impressive both handling the range with out a skip and no hard edged distortion/clipping from the preamp…same results with The Blues Project, Projections These folks know how to reproduce analog (ie living) sound…Just get a load of the message when you first open the box (spoiler…) For half the price of a floor seat in the Sphere, you can recover your love of vinyl without needing to renovate your home. Last thought: be gentle using your D3 Discwasher to clean your records (every play…) with the Sound Burger as the drive mechanism lacks the torque of a full size platter, especially with 45 rpm 12” licorice pizzas

Great portable player. Excellent quality and sound. Now you can upgrade the stylus for a better sound. Don't think that this can replace your hi-fi system it has a good sound but can't be a replacement for higher tiers of turntables. It is very good to bring with you to parties and outside in nature where you can enjoy your records with friends.

If you don’t have an issue with warped records and have good steady hands it’s pretty much perfect. Unfortunately I do and I’m far from a doctor. Sometimes I’ll put a disk on and if it’s warped in just the right way that it’ll scrape on the plastic as it spins, damaging the record and making the music unlistenable. I’ve played these same discs on other player where the entirety of the record rests on the turn table, and I obviously don’t have this issue, because there isn’t anything for the record to scratch on. The other issue I have is I have a hard time setting the needle down in the right spot. It seems like if I put the needle down just barely off it’ll catch a groove or something and fling the needle down the record, scratching across the grooves. It doesn’t happen often, and it seems to be an issue with some records more than others, but I’ve learned a player that moved the needle on its own is a better fit for me. I’ll post a video and pictures of my problems. But aside from that and like I said before it plays great, it’s a fun little player that’s great for portability and small spaces. It’s built light but pretty sturdy. I got this because I’m in a college apartment and don’t have a lot of space. It’s tiny footprint is perfect for that, almost as good as the Sony Flamingo, I just have these issues and it unfortunately makes this record player not a good fit for me. I’d rather sacrifice a bit of space and have a record player that can play all my records.

I am very pleased with this. The sound quality is almost on a par with my main system, an AT-LP140XP with VM95E, and will be improved once I install the LE stylus for the Sound Burger's AT3600 cartridge. The 33 1/3 speed was a bit high, but it was easy to adjust. The tracking weight was 3.2, grams, exactly right for the included stylus, and tracking weight CAN be adjusted with a screw at the base of the tonearm. Although the arm has a counterweight, it is not perfectly balanced laterally, so the deck should be used on a level surface. Besides working well with my system via the line out, it also connected directly via Bluetooth with my Amazon Echo Studio, making a great portable system,. It also connected to my JBL Bluetooth headphones and to a JBL Extreme 4, for a perfect battery-operated portable record player. At the sale price, this system is superior to a similar-priced Crosley box. Speaking as a technician and 78 collector, after looking at the diagram, the sound burger COULD be modified to play 78s, with the stock AT3600 78rpm stylus, but the layout will probably make the mod physically difficult to do. All in all, this is a good record player, and I recommend it for out-of-the-box playback of vinyl records as a starter system, and as a spare player.
