Blithe Spirit

As a director of high school plays, I am constantly reading scripts both old and new. Though I’d like to do more recent material, most modern plays are full of language and situations that are not appropriate for teenagers. So, instead, I am forced to dip back into the classics. Fortunately, there are plays like Mr. Coward’s—with wit and fun, modern enough to entertain but “clean” enough to put on.I put on this one last year and found there is much to enjoy in it. The relationship between Charles and his two wives—one a ghost—is quite brilliant with some excellent repartee. The séance is a wonderful sequence as is the last scene with the room literally coming down around Charles’ ears. It makes great work for a set designer and stage crew.I don’t often write about scripts, but I was happy to find this one. It is not as well known as some classics perhaps, and deserves to be better known. It is an excellent choice for directors out there looking for a fun and engaging show.

Great show. Just know that when you produce it, even with great line pickup, it will be 2 and a half hours.

The script was brand new and good condition.

I just finished directing this show here in NYC. What a fun piece to do...though I highly suggest cutting it for time :)

Daughter's review: This book is great for any aspiring actor or actress; it is VERY informative and provides great perspective into the mind of an agent. I would suggest it to anyone looking for another way to examine their craft and expand their auditioning capabilities/knowledge of the industry.

I'm sure this is a great book, but it isn't at all what I expected. I ordered Blithe Spirit. That's even what the sample picture is. How does that make any sense? The picture advertises one thing, but it's actually another. I am very disappointed.
