What an amazing generator straight out of the box. Very little initial set-up needed. Simply install the wheels and front “feet” as they refer to it. Took me 5 minutes to do. I am not a mechanic, but consider myself handy. I love the solid construction and the feeling of a strong sturdy unit you get when you move it rolling around. Definitely a quality generator. The attention to detail and features are superb. The control panel is well designed and has all the controls and information you need. Comes with the oil for the unit along with a funnel. The natural gas hose as well as the LPG hose connections. I like the versatility of always having options and this unit delivers as you can run it on gasoline, propane or natural gas with the simple turn of a switch. I will use propane as my first choice as I want to shy away from using gasoline due to storage and how gas will go bad after 6 or 9 months etc. I connected it to my propane tank and it started up just fine. It will take a few tries the first time as the propane line needs to fill up. It’s not quiet, but having said that it’s much quieter than my old unit and Quieter than I expected for such a powerful generator. I had researched other generators before purchasing this one. One of the deciding factors for me was that the motor was a Westinghouse engine and not a Chinese Knock Off as a lot of the other generators out there. Make sure to look into that and consider if you look around, as I believe this would influence the longevity of the generator. I am please with my purchase and the unit and look forward to many, many years of service.

A huge ice and snow storm was forecast for the weekend. Our whole house generator quit working. I ordered this generator on a Tuesday and it was sitting on my sidewalk by Friday afternoon. That was impressive. In the meantime, I ordered a 50 amp plug/ box and 50' of cable sufficient to handle the generator output. That was on my porch by Thursday afternoon. I ordered a metal shed large enough to hold a generator and a shed ventilation kit. They were on my porch by Saturday. I ordered a dual propane tank holder and an automatic valve kit and hoses to allow switching between two tanks without interrupting power. The Valve kit also required a Qcc1 nut propane gas fitting. All arrived before Saturday. I realized I would need an addition 25' of power cord so I ordered that on Friday and received it on Saturday. I had everything I needed before the storm except 12' of #4 AWG wire so I bought that from a box store. I wired the box through my current generator to take advantage of the transfer switch. The box worked great. I ordered the 10,500 watt Westinghouse generator and in retrospect I wish I has spent a little more to get the 14,500. There were multiple reasons for ordering this make and model: - price/power output. - trifuel capable (propane, natural gas, gasoline) - company reputation - warranty - 50 amp capable, 10500 watt peak power - battery/starter vs just a pull cord - remote start - included wheels (some don't) and a handle to move it around - the number of hours you get from a 20 or 30 pound propane tank. My first reaction was to be impressed. It was delivered by Amazon as projected and placed on my sidewalk. This unit is heavy. I was impressed with the few things I had to do to get the unit ready and the packaging was very organized - put the front legs on, back wheels on, connected the battery and added oil. I hooked up the propane tank with the included hose. The tools, oil and funnel were included as well as easy to follow directions. To start it, all that was required was to turn on the battery switch, turn on the starter switch and then press start. It started right up. This was one of the easiest pieces of equipment I've ever used. After hooking up the power cords and restarting it, I tested the output at the plug box and at the transfer switch. I read 241 volts at the transfer switch. I could not ask for more for the money. Only time will tell how it holds up but I'm optimistic. We didn't need to use it this past weekend, but we're ready for future outages. I would recommend this unit for someone needing power during utility outages. It doesn't take the place of a whole house generator, but that was not it's purpose. It is mobile, but it is heavy. It might not be the option for daily moving on and off of a job site, but if you choose to do so, it'll handle a lot of your needs. I unboxed and set up this unit by myself in less than 1/2 hour. All of the other things I had to do took a bit more time so it was refreshing for it to be so easy to use. For someone needing emergency power, this is an impressive generator.

Purchased this generator to use as a whole house backup after having dealt with several recent outages thanks to the oh-so-reliable Texas grid. Got a great price from Amazon and ordered over labor day weekend but was not expecting to see it for at least a month or two due to it being back ordered. Surprisingly I received a shipping notification from Amazon after only about two weeks. While this was great, the delivery company took almost two weeks to deliver and required three resets of the delivery appointment time which was a bit frustrating. Upon delivery the box had some tears and bruises so i wanted to check it out before accepting. The delivery guys were very patient while I opened the box and unpacked enough to determine that the generator was in pristine condition and had suffered no damage during shipment. Documentation is good and assembly to make run was very easy. Since hurricane season is winding down and the unit will hopefully go immediately into storage I used propane to test and do the break-in. The battery was pretty much fully charged and the unit started up on the first try. I am using a 50 amp inlet box and a interlock device on my breaker panel. The unit so far has run the majority of my house without showing any sign of strain or stress. Pending installation of a soft start device i have not tried to run a 3 ton central A/C unit, but with what I have seen so far I believe this generator should be able to handle it without a problem. The generator comes with pretty much every accessory needed. Although it weighs 230 lbs. the wheel kit and handle make it easy to move around. It comes with a propane hose with regulator in addition to a natural gas hose. Everything needed (except fuel obviously) to get this unit running was included in the box! So far I am very pleased with everything about this generator. It looks great, runs great, and comes equipped with every option I think I will ever need. Post testing update: During break-in and further testing I noticed that based on the on-board meter the no-load frequency was running about 63.5 Hz and with about 50% load only dropped to 62.8 Hz. This seems a bit high to me. I have battery back-ups on all of my computer equipment and all of them alarmed and kicked over to battery power whenever the frequency got above 62.9 Hz (The back-ups are all spec'd. at 60 +/- 3 Hz). I contacted Westinghouse support and asked if there was a way to reduce the generator rpm which would reduce the frequency. They advised that there was not a way to reduce the rpm's and furthermore that this unit was not designed to power "sensitive" electronics and that I should upgrade to a unit with lower total harmonic distortion or an inverter generator (both more expensive). I am very disappointed in this resolution. As this unit is advertised to be used as a home emergency back-up generator I think hey should be more upfront about its limitation to power electronics (almost every appliance in a modern household has electronic controls now). Also I cannot believe that they would produce a motor that does not have some way of adjusting rpm which would directly control the output frequency and voltage. While I do still believe that this is a powerful and quality generator, I am not comfortable that I am getting correct information from Customer Service and if I am, I am not sure this is a generator that should be used to power a home without risking damage to appliances.

This Westinghouse generator is an impressively well-built machine that delivers exactly as promised. Assembly was a breeze; installing the wheels and legs was straightforward, and it’s very easy to maneuver once they’re on. The remote start worked perfectly, and the unit fired right up and handled testing without a hitch. Just a friendly reminder to add the oil before you crank it for the first time!

When I ordered the generator, it was on backorder, so I was nervous it wouldn't ever arrive. However, I received email updates on the status of the order and it did get here as promised. My credit card wasn't charged until the generator was shipped, so the purchasing side of the transaction was a positive. The unit arrived in good shape. The delivery service put it in our inroad and it was a real hoot dragging it into our garage, so my one suggestion is to be home when the unit is delivered, unless you plan to just put the wheels on where it sits. It was easy to unbox and to assemble the few pieces needed. It started right up on propane with the key fob and ran for 20 minutes, during which time I tried several extension cords and ran a number of devices. All worked as advertised. We won't really know what it can do until we have a power failure, but it seems like a solid unit and we are comfortable having it as our backup power supply to run our essentials. 03/25 We've just come off a four-day power outage after a nasty Spring storm and are thrilled with this generator. It started up on the first try and ran easily on both propane and gasoline over the course of the outage. It powered our refrigerator, both freezers and a handful of small devices and didn't have any lag. It was simple to use and a piece of cake to switch between fuel sources. We didn't push the unit; our wood burning stove means we don't need to run the heat pump unless it's brutally cold outside. We intended to run the well, but it's hard-wired into the utility box (probably should have checked into that before the storm). That's first on the to-do list before next time. Because the temperatures weren't too bad during the day, we did some playing to see what kind of time we'd get. We ran the unit during the day and shut it down during the night, getting about 12 hours out of 5 gallons of gasoline. We got seven hours out of maybe 3/4-tank of propane, but once the temperature dropped in the evening, it gummed up and wouldn't run. That's not a negative on the generator at all, just a heads up for folks thinking about using propane. We didn't try the natural gas, but are going to look at getting an adapter on our house unit before the next storm.

Great power and easy setup. I only wish it was low THD.

Very capable machine. Bought it to run on my house natural gas but am very happy with its performance on LP. Glad to have the flexibility in an emergency situation. After assembly, it started right up. Ran the break in for 3 hours changing the oil each hour with Standard (non synthetic) oil. Finally filled with 5w-30 synthetic. Very happy with the output options. Bought the smart transfer switch to go with it and LOVE that feature. It’s most valuable when running the temporary power scenario with extension cords. Once I install the generator as a whole home back up, that smart switch will lose its value, but could be used on a smaller portable. Oh, speaking of “portable”, this thing is HEAVY! Until you get the wheels on it, which takes some mastery of leverage and lifting power, it is a boulder. I suggest you get the delivery guys to put it where you are gonna assemble it. It ain’t going up or down stairs, I found out the hard way. ;-)

After getting knocked off the grid by a derecho in May, I used my phone to order this generator. I never shop on my phone, which should tell you something. I was uncomfortable and wanted this never to happen again. The generator was delivered promptly. It arrived in good order, being packaged and handled well. It is not light, but it's reasonably easy to move around using the included handle and wheels. There is some assembly involved; folks with little mechanical aptitude might want to call their nephew, Thomas. All one really needs is a piece of 4x4 cutoff to wedge under the wheels while you bolt on the wheels and standoffs. This generator is a tri-fuel contraption so I can feed it petrol (gasoline), propane gas, and natural gas. Since my home has a natural gas connection I figured that would be the safest and most convenient source of fuel and therefore hired a plumber to come install a tap for it off of the gas meter. I also hired an electrical provider to install a transfer switch on the breaker box, so that I may run the generator without backfeeding current into the electrical mains. About two weeks after we got all of the contractor work complete, sure enough we got hit by Hurrican Beryl and out power was out for over a week. Connecting the generator to the transfer switch and gas tap was a simple matter and it fired right up. It's not quiet, but the sound wasn't too bad once one was inside. I would suggest getting a pair of hearing protector muffs and using them while starting it up or working around it. It wasn't cost effective to get all of the plumbing and connections hooked up at a place where the generator would have cover from rain and so forth so I went ahead and invested in a bit of a tent cover as the instructions tell you not to let it get wet. My friend who uses generators regularly in the field in his line of work commented that they let their get rained on and never have problems. I imagine this would do its job even without a rain tent, but if you're paying for your own generator out of your own pocket instead of buying them on a corporate card, it's probably a good idea to baby them a bit. Pairing the generator to the remote was simple and easy and helped with dealing with the noise. This is a good generator.
