050073 Case Activated Powder Drop

Purchased to use with the Lee load master as the perfect powder measure form Lee leaks like crazy with Ball powder. You will need to purchase the case activated add on for this to work. I have had great results with this measure it rarely drops a charge to large or small, it meters ball powders and stick powders well. It doesn't leak and is easy to empty. Pros: steal construction built like a brick S*** house. Easy to adjust Works with Lee Load-master Easy to change calibers using drop in measure tubes. Cons: price if purchased w/o a promotion hopper changes color over time when used with certain powders Doesn't come with the easy empty adapter ( needs to be purchased )

As others have noted, this is the linkage only, not the powder measure itself. You buy this linkage, and you can automatically drop powder into your cartridge when it presses against the die (included). You get everything you need to make this operation automatic. This is a great system overall. If you want minimum set up time, then you get two powder measures and two linkages, although if you buy the press, one measure w/linage will be included. Then you rifle rotor into one, and a handgun rotor into the other measure. Now you buy a metering assembly for each load you run often (they're cheap at less than ten bucks) and you'll be up and running, with the correct charge in no time

Speeds up your reloading by taking an extra step out of the reloading cycle and insures you will not have a squib load. When the case raises up into the feeder it pushes the powder measure up and that actuates the mechanism to drop a charge into the case. I have a older Hornady progressive loader (pre Projector) and use an old RCBS powder measure which is really the same as the Hornady one. It all works perfectly. You just adjust the whole unit up or down according to the case length to get a full throw from the measure.

Very easy setup, instructions simple all I really did was look at the final picture to get a general idea of what it should look like and done.

I had a bench mounted RCBS powder measure already, but wanted a second case activated drop for .45 ACP loads. The Hornady measure was set up for 9mm. At first, I was going to get just the lower assembly and swap the top part when I changed calibers, but figured in the long term another $30 for convenience wasn't going to break the bank. I'm glad I did because it is super simple now. (There is a customer posted picture that shows everything in the kit. Basically, you get everything you need except the powder drop. Alternatively (and for much less cost), use the generic pistol caliber powder sleeve (not the caliber specific PTX expander sleeve) and use a separate expander die in the next hole or before you place the bullet in the case. Any brand of standard size die will fit.

I have two, one setup for pistol calibers and one for large rifle… still load all my .223/5.56 by hand and a couple of tenths of a grain are more variance than I would like. For 30 cal and pistol calibers they are just fine and really make the progressive hum.

I bought this as well as the upper assembly to have a spare setup for my Lock-n-Load AP press. I keep one set up with the rifle insert and one with the pistol insert to save time changing from pistol to rifle and back. This picture is deceptive, however, and this item listed ONLY includes the lower assembly which has the arms/linkages and the part to fit into the loading press. I knew this from reading the other reviews/answered questions; I only mention it to be sure everyone has the chance to know this before ordering it and being disappointed.

I finally figured out why hornady sells this part in a different kit from the powder measure (there are a few reasons they do that but I like this one the best). I can have the lower part that fits into the press specifically set with the press quick change bushing at the right depth for the appropriate case bell. I just write on this which caliber it is set for and with a small amount of time I swap the pistol powder measure onto this base. My intent will be to have one base for each cartridge and one powder measure used for all cartridge. Today I load 40S&W and 45ACP so I've got two bottoms (this product) and one powder measure.
