Well worth the extra pounds
I have had several Etymotic earphones in the last 14 years Started with ER6i EMRK 5 And now these ER 3 SE Started with the Adventures Broken land Then Carleen Anderson maybe I'm amazed Such a deep base tone the treble is sharp and toned down The guitar and Piano come through perfect Nice purchase and with the 2 year warranty should provide me with many years of listening enjoyment

Performs well- quite expensive
Good sound quality- would prefer a better base response

Congested and mid bloated with a warm signature.
I have the etymotic ermk-5's and love them... They are open, detailed, spacious and have great realism and air. The x3se... The detail is greater and you can hear a lot but at the cost of the openness and realism. Whilst listening to 24bit hans Zimmer I could tell the clarinet was a clarinet with the ermk-5s but with the x3se's the air was lost and it sounded synthetic. Also I find the x3se a little dark sounding with very rolled off treble. The bass is fine and I have no idea why anyone would buy the xr version as I find the se too bassy. It's bassier than my Bose and way bassier than my audeze sines and the x3se lacks high end sparkle. The mids are so forward I can only imagine them being suitable for audio book listening or on a positive note maybe an artist on stage to monitor his vocals. The soundstage is quite congested with the sound coming from my eyebrows. The £60 etys when compared sound very very open with the sound filling the room I'm in with ease and the bass being very controlled and less boomy than the x3's with a fuller feel and better sub bass. I was excited about these as the price difference should have made them quite special, but what I discovered is a very mediocre pair of headphones with a cheap plastic sound... Get the £60 pound etys as in my opinion they are the best earphones I have had with a real true to life and engaging sound. To clarify. I have no problem with seal as they both etys seal the same and I tested with several players. Cayin n3 with topping nx4 dsd dac/amp and my ibasso players, cowon players as well as a couple of other amps I have. I compared to the ermk-5's (as mentioned) Also the KZ zs10's which are more revealing than the x3's but with a bloated bass and a little sibilance at times... I then compared against full-size headphones namely my bose quiet comforts which are not great but brilliant for what they are designed for and my audeze sines which show how much all the earphones I mentioned miss in the highs. All in all the ermk-5s with topping nx4 dsd are the best with a very revealing, honest and open sound. I do crave a little more highs though.

Me encantan
Gran separacion de instrumentos y fidelidad de la musica. No esperes encontrar bajos resonantes pero si detallados. Los agudos son templados y los medios muy buenos. Hay que saber insertarlos bien en el canal del oído.

Etymotic hits another one out of the park
Etymotic makes great in ear monitors. This is my third set, and I am very impressed. First of all, the previous ones - I forget the model number - did not have replaceable cables, and the cables frayed at the attachment points, so into the bin they went (this was after several years of service, so I'm not complaining too much). Big kudos to Etymotic for making these replaceable. Second, the new tapered silicone tips that have only two flanges are much more comfortable for me than the three-flange originals. In my ears, the three-flange version gets quite hot and itchy and it's hard to concentrate on the music when that happens. The two-flange version removes that problem, without seeming to impact either the sound quality or the noise isolation. Third, all the good qualities are still there - great sound, great isolation. While I don't find in ear monitors as comfortable as my HiFiMan 5xx or Sennheiser 6xx, having the isolation on say a long air trip makes a huge difference. Plus they fit in my shirt pocket. As for the sound, I would say the Etymotics emphasize slightly the mid treble. Exceptionally good for classical music but some older poorly equalized rock (Led Zepplin I'm looking at you) can sound a bit more thrashy than what I consider normal. As for the low end, some people prefer the similar XR version but these have plenty of bass for me. These have replaced my Shure SE215 as my travelling IEM. The Shures sound fine but again a bit emphasized in the treble. But they don't isolate as well and the housing presses against my ear and becomes uncomfortable after awhile, whereas the Etymotics don't cause any of that kind of discomfort. Highly recommended.

You will love it within 3 weeks after your ears got comfortable with the insertion.
First of all, wearing this things takes 2+ weeks to stretch your ears to fit. After that, you will lose ears virginity and feel comfortable. Second of all, the sound didn't impress me at the first time, might be my ears that used to the coloured headphones. Day by day, you will discover the new meaning from the same songs, all genres, due to the balanced sound signature (e.g., it focuses on the right instruments/vocal which sounds engineer intended to, compared to coloured headphones which always focuses on one specific sound range only). Buying the SE version, I used to worry about listening to hip-hop or EDM before making a purchase, turned out, it sounded so great with these kind of music. Unlike other in-ears, you don't have to worry about the depth of insertion that changes the bass or treble volume, as the deep insertion secures in your ear canals. Apart from that, this headphone is very easy to use, lightweight, untangle wire and easy to carry. After 3 weeks, I could't go back to my previouse colourful Chi-Fi headphones, as the ER3SE sounds much better. I even feel unnatural sound when wearing the coloured sound headphone.
