Products like this is why I love The Ordinary.
Quality ingredients, affordably priced, that allows you to customize your own skincare. I wanted to work resveratrol into my skincare routine. This formula, that combines resveratrol and ferulic acid, is both a powerful antioxidant & anti-aging active. It also helps the effectiveness of your Vitamin C, by aiding skin penetration. It has a slightly oily consistency. It’s unscented, but it does have a slight scent from the ingredients. To me it smells like when you open your bottle of multivitamins….something similar to that. It’s not a strong scent and I don’t notice it after I apply it. I add about 3-4 drops into my Vitamin C & Vitamin B serums. Just kind of mix them together in my palm and use it on my face, neck and chest. What I love about it, as with most things from The Ordinary, is the price. When it comes to my skincare I’m looking for the most effective ingredients that have some good science behind them. I need them to be quality ingredients that also don’t cost an obscene amount of money. I like tailoring my skin care to what I need and nothing more. The Ordinary provides that option beautifully with all of their products. I’m not using it with the expectation that it’s going to provide dramatic results or reverse the aging process. It’s something that I’m using as a preventative and to boost the effects of my other skin care heavy hitters. Anti-aging skin care, I’m realizing, is about prevention, maintenance, stimulation, and repair. If you can build a skin care routine around those 4 things and choose your products accordingly, then you’re heading in the right direction, I think.

Weird texture but works so well!
Purchased this randomly when trying to find a vitamin c product that wouldn’t break the bank. I’m loving this so far. The texture is kind of greasy and I was afraid of using it on my oil-prone skin but it hasn’t been an issue at all. Can’t wait to keep using it and seeing results - it’s been about 2 months or so now and my skin is softer, brighter… amazing.

Preserve-it-all serum that actually works!
I call this product Preserve-it-all! It is such a great product. I use it with two other "The Ordinary" serums (the Matrxyl 10% w/ HA, The GF 15%) and this one. I use this one last as it has a non-aqueous base and seems to seal in everything else. The combo has been really quite stunning. and I've only used this combo for about two weeks. I'm getting a set for my mom for mothers day. I'm 58 and I've seen great results (healing my acne scars, evening my pores, hydrating and plumbing sagging skin and just making everything look healthier... At 76 years old, she is quite depressed about her skin looking old and nothing working for her... I think she'll love this product combo!

The Serum That Proves $12 Can Outperform $135 “Luxury Science”—If You Can Tolerate the Texture
If I’m being honest, The Ordinary’s Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3% is one of those serums you instinctively want to hate the second it hits your skin. It feels greasy. Warm. Heavy. Almost like you accidentally grabbed a face oil instead of an antioxidant treatment. It is cosmetically inelegant in every way that typically makes me abandon a product after one use. But here’s the problem: It also happens to be one of the most pharmacologically aggressive antioxidant serums you can buy without stepping into luxury pricing or prescription territory. This is a perfect example of a product that feels bad… because the science behind it is actually good. Let’s start at the beginning. ⸻ Why It Feels Like Oil (Even Though There Isn’t a Single Drop of Oil in It) The texture is the first thing everyone complains about, and rightfully so. It is thick. Slick. Slightly warm on application. Slow to absorb. And borderline unpleasant when used neat. But every one of those sensations has a scientific reason: 1. Water would destroy the formula. Resveratrol and ferulic acid are extremely unstable in water. Expose them to moisture and oxygen? They degrade rapidly and become useless long before they hit your skin. 2. So The Ordinary removed water entirely. This serum is water-free. Zero water. Zero emulsifiers. Zero preservatives. That leaves only one realistic solvent option: 3. Propanediol. This humectant acts like a delivery vehicle for ingredients that can’t survive in aqueous formulas. Propanediol is: • thick • heavy • slightly oily-feeling • slow absorbing It is not an oil, but your skin perceives it as one because it behaves like a viscous slip agent rather than a watery serum. 4. The warmth? A real chemical reaction. High concentrations of propanediol create a mild exothermic reaction when they interact with the tiny amount of water naturally present in your skin. That warm feeling isn’t irritation — it’s chemistry. The result: ugly texture, exceptional stability. ⸻ The Actual Formula — A Pharmacological Heavyweight This is not a “cute” antioxidant serum. It’s a lab-strength cocktail at concentrations you rarely see outside of premium lines. 3% Resveratrol This is extremely high for topical resveratrol. Most luxury products use: • 0.3% • 0.5% • 1% if they’re feeling bold Resveratrol activates SIRT1, a longevity pathway associated with improved cellular repair, anti-inflammatory effects, and more efficient response to oxidative stress. Caudalie charges $135+ for resveratrol-heavy serums built on the exact same mechanism. This one costs $12. 3% Ferulic Acid Ferulic acid is the exact molecule used to stabilize vitamin C and vitamin E in the famous SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic ($182). At high percentages, ferulic: • boosts photoprotection • reduces free radical damage • strengthens UV defense • enhances other antioxidants This formula gives you six times the ferulic concentration of SkinCeuticals’ 0.5% — albeit in a different format. Together, these two ingredients create one of the strongest antioxidant shields you can get at any price point. ⸻ Performance — The Results Are Real, But You Have to Earn Them After two weeks of consistent use (mixed, not applied directly), you see the signature effects of high-potency antioxidants: • Brighter, more even tone Free radical reduction reduces dullness faster than most vitamin C serums. • Smoother skin texture Not exfoliation — reduction in oxidative stress, which reduces micro-inflammation. • Enhanced environmental protection Pair this with sunscreen and your skin’s UV resilience increases significantly. • Better collagen support Indirectly — via sirtuin activation and reduced oxidative stress on fibroblasts. • Less redness over time Resveratrol is quietly anti-inflammatory. If you’re looking for a $10 alternative to Caudalie Premier Cru or a potent supporting antioxidant for your daytime sunscreen routine, this does the job aggressively well. ⸻ How to Use It (So You Don’t Hate It) Used alone, it’s a disaster. Mixed — it becomes a weapon. The Only Acceptable Application Method: Mix It. 2–3 drops into your moisturizer in your palm. Blend. Apply. Why mixing works: • It disperses propanediol • Reduces greasiness • Prevents pilling • Prevents it from “sitting” on the skin • Improves absorption • Eliminates the “greaseball” finish It plays beautifully with Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream, Skin1004, La Roche-Posay Toleriane, or any ceramide-rich moisturizer. When NOT to use it • Before makeup — instant shine, zero grip • Before going out — it will sabotage your finish • With heavy silicone primers — guaranteed pilling • If layering too many humectants — tacky overload This is a night-time antioxidant or a mix-in booster. Not a “standalone serum moment.” ⸻ Who Should Use This • People chasing maximum antioxidant power without luxury prices • Anyone using Caudalie or SkinCeuticals and wants a cheaper equivalent • People who are consistent with sunscreen (antioxidants rely on SPF to matter) • People building a longevity-focused routine Who Should Avoid It • Anyone who hates oily or heavy textures • People who refuse to mix products • Anyone expecting a “skincare-feels-nice” experience • Beginners who don’t understand antioxidant timing This is a power tool, not a pampering serum. ⸻ Pros • Astoundingly potent antioxidant concentrations • Fraction of the price of Caudalie or SkinCeuticals • Water-free, meaning ultra-stable • Strong SIRT1 and photoprotection pathways • Highly customizable as a mix-in Cons • Texture is objectively unpleasant when used alone • Slight warming sensation may confuse first-time users • Not compatible with “makeup days” • Requires SPF to matter • Not elegant, not luxurious, not beginner-friendly ⸻ Final Verdict: The $12 Serum That Competes With $135 Luxury Formulas—If You’re Willing to Work With the Texture The Ordinary Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3% is the definition of “ugly but brilliant.” It doesn’t feel good. It doesn’t smell good. It doesn’t glide, sink, or vanish. But for the price, you will not find a more potent antioxidant pairing on the market. It’s the serum you buy when you care about molecular performance more than cosmetic elegance — when you understand mechanisms, not marketing. Used correctly (mixed, sparingly, consistently), it is one of the highest-value anti-aging tools you can add to your routine. 5/5 for performance. 2/5 for texture. Overall: A powerhouse for people who know what they’re doing.

Yes. Also, Im 42 with sun damage. And Im 42.
Great delivery! Ive used this product this morning. My skin looks and feels great. I have olive skin and hyperpigmentation that visually disappeared. Granted Ive been working on it. I use Andalou anti aging with plant stem. But Ive also been using ordinary Niacimide and Hyaluronic acid serum prior. My face is so soft. My husband said.." I dont know it feels nice." Which is man for " keep using this you are glorious". Definitely try this. It does sit on the skin at first. Use just a little to find your balance depending on how strong your barrier is. So consider adding 10 minutes between your next serum or moisturizer. Love you gals and thank you!

Ordinary is not ordinary
I bought this with three other serums to use in conjunction. The first serum I use is Chebula serum, Lactic Acid I only use at night. Hyaluronic Acid, Resveratrol, Matrixyl 10%. I got this formula from an esthetician . The first step is cleansing your face and then apply the serums letting each absorb. Then I apply a toner and moisturizer following with sunscreen. I have seen a really big difference in my skin. The ordinary products are so affordable this routine is doable. Do this a.m. and p.m. Except only using the lactic acid in the p.m.
