Not as crisp as it should be.
This is a review of the 4K version, the film itself is superb and needs no introduction, I am not reviewing the film, just the 4K transfer. The film is 5 stars, nothing more to say. The 4K transfer isn’t as good as I was expecting. It’s been mastered from the original 35mm film so I was expecting more, unfortunately I can’t really see the difference between the Blu ray version and the 4K version, to be honest if your UHD player does a half decent job of upscaling then stick with the Blu Ray. The sound is identical to the Blu Ray, so DTS HD master, which is great but would expect Atmos for this 30th anniversary edition.

A Monkey in the wrench, pain in the ass
This is the movie that created a whole sub genre that action movies have been following since it's release in 1988. A nifty tight thriller it sets up a really hi concept premise (a term that was coined by legendary producer Don Simpson back in the 1980's - to describe a plot in 2-3 sentences or less, which Hollywood studios had been following through 80's/90's). A cop visits estranged wife at her Christmas party on Christmas Eve in L.A, but ends up having to rescue her and others when terrorist take over the 40 floor High rise. It's a simple concept but perfectly executed and forever made the then new FOX LA HQ the Die Hard building (an iconic landmark just like the film itself). Excellent performances from Bruce Willis as the quip every man hero John McClane and Alan Rickman in a career defining film debut as the villainous Hans Gruber. Its a huge testament to this movie that it has aged much better than other movies of the 1980's and is still remains the definitive action movie of said decade. It has also spawned huge debates about whether it is a Christmas Movie, but needless to say every self respecting action fan will be watching this movie come every Christmas Eve.

I've finally seen it!
I had never seen this film as I was below the required age when it came out on VHS and my mother was very strict regarding such matters. I am currently working through the films I heard about at school (Terminator is next!).I watched Die Hard for the first time at 35 and I can now see what all the fuss was about. I have a very short attention span but I was glued to the seat the whole way through. As my wife was out I was able to turn up my sound bar and enjoy the bullets and bombs to the full!It was only a matter of days after I watched the film that the sad news broke of the loss of Alan Rickman, who lent his distinctive tone of voice to the perfect villain in this and in other great films.

A milestone and point of reference of all the action movies of the last 30 years, a classic, yet still fresh and up to date
A point of reference for action films and still one of the best ever made.Ironic, inventive, adrenalinic, surprising, and with onscreen visual effect, so no CGI or easy solutions: all that you see, hear and enjoy is the result of a director and a bunch of excellent professionals that know how to produce and shoot a film.Die Hard is, in fact, a film that is still engaging but is, in a sense, a kind of classic film made in the classic way.And you can tell also by the way it is written: a fresh, exciting and well balanced script where twists are essential and action is where you need it and not spread all over the story, in order to lead the viewer through ups and downs, and never get bored. A film that smartly plays with all the cliché of the hero and the bad guys, the helpers, the victims in a very refreshing way. Many memorable lines and moments, a great construction of action scenes where, surprisingly enough, you can follow the action and do not get lost in thousands shots and ultrafast edit that would have produced only confusion with no engagement. Excellent blu ray

LOVE THIS FILM!
So this was my first time watching this. I had already watched the 3rd one and thought it could not compete with it when my partner had said it was just based on one location, a tower block. How wrong was I! It may not have half as many locations as the 3rd but my god the storyline and plot is that good it really doesent matter. After now watching the second one also I think this is actually my favourite out of all of them! There is a good amount of action in it and in some way it is better because it's just based around him, his wife, the baddies and the fundernental and simple but effective ways he uses to get the better of them!Definitely recommend this to anyone that hasn't seen it before!

Its a Xmas move. Get over it!
It's Die hard. Its a Xmas movie all about how a brave policeman saved Xmas from the evil Hans and gave hope and meaning back to his future best bud Al Powell. The digital redemption was via Google video, I would have preferred UltraViolet but hey ho. The HD 1080p print is incredible. I can't verify the quality of the 4K as I do not have a 4K tv. I did not buy this for the 4K version, just for the artwork and package (and strangely, I don't own the HD version).

The way it's meant to be seen
The story is the same, the presentation, much better. Every last grain of film is here, the HDR making the most difference, the lenses and film stock aren't up to the 4k level and off axis lens distortion is clearly present in many scenes (less noticeable on DVD and blu-ray) but that's the way the film was shot in the 80s. Great romp, but I'm not sure it was worth £25 given I have the blu-ray box-set of Die Hard already.
