Used this in my Weber Smoky Mountain. I put this grate on top of the existing grate with the bars 90 degrees from the other. Prevents small pieces of charcoal from ending up in the bottom of the smoker unburned.

Liked that it's made of good quality steel, hopefully American made. Holds up well of continuous use for several years. The chimney starters are a little hard on them as the heat is concentrated in a small area of the center of the grate. So if conditions permit, wind,weather etc. I wouldn't start the charcoal chimney starter in the Weber kettle all the time. It will remain sturdy and level for 5-7 years of pretty high use. Great product.

Perfect fit and heavier gauge steel than the one that came with our grill. We doubled this up with the original grate to prevent as much wear to this one. Hopefully this lasts as long as the original

I did desperately need a new one, as the original was just about roasted and rusted through. This one actually looked better than original (opposite of the cooking grate for my Weber, which seems like it is made of thinner metal) with a nice, beefy look and feel to it. BUT the thing warped and sagged from the heat on the first grilling session !!! Now maybe that isn't such a big deal, but you'd think that Weber has had enough expertise to make a charcoal grate that is tough enough to stand up to the heat. Time will tell how the 7440 will hold up to repeated use, noting that a Weber Kettle can get VERY hot - which is part of what I like about them.

Wanted a nicer stainless steel grate to cook on than the 13.7” provided for the Smokey Joe. I also wanted one slightly smaller (this one at 13.5”) because once you start smoking fatty foods the standard grates have trouble making it smoothly past the rivets of the handles on the Tamale pot. I also don’t have to tilt the lower grate as much to get it out. Would also fit great for my 18” WSM as a secondary coal grate to cross the factory one, keeping the coals from falling through the grate. It sits perfectly inside the coal cage/basket. THIS IS NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR THE FACTORY COAL GRATE ON THE 18” WSM! It is smaller.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: Type was discribed as a replacement grate for my weber chacoal smoker but picture and discription was incorrect. The grate should be round to fit into smoker correct and it was oblong and did not fit.

Purchased this heavy duty Stainless steel grid for use on top of a cast grill plate, on a gas BBQ, to keep the meat off the plate. Perfect diameter, and does what I wanted. Much easier to remove it for cleaning in the dishwasher, than the actual BBQ plate.
