Great Litter Box!
Thank you Petmate for making a litter box for cats that stand to urinate! I have 2 cats and one likes to stand when she urinates. This often over sprays litter boxes with shorter sides. My search for high sided litter boxes has been challenging. Many have 3 high sides, leaving one side low for entry for the cat. That works well for cat's that know they shouldn't turn their backside to the low side! My adorable baby didn't read the memo and would often over spray right out the door (thankfully onto the waterproof mat under the box), lol! This Petmate box eliminates this elimination problem! All sides are high. It cleans up easily with soap and water. It helps to contain the litter for kitties that like to dig. Highly recommend! A few suggestions:1. Add adequate litter to weigh down the box so kitty doesn't tip the box while coming and going. My girls like to put their paws on the edge to strategize their entry and exit. If you only have an inch of litter in the bottom, the cat can tip the box over. I go with 3 inches of litter on the bottom to prevent this.2. Take off the top if kitty is skittish. My girls like things open and airy. Most cats do NOT like to be confined while eliminating. Part of their survival instinct dictates quick getaways. Additionally, cats like their boxes clean. Topless boxes allow odors to escape and are less offensive to cats. My girls had no interest in the box until I removed the top. Now they hop in and out with no issue.3. Chunkier kitties may need a step stool for entry and exit. One of my girls is a little fuller in the figure and likes to use a sturdy, wide based step stool to get in and out of the box.

Love it, Love it, Love it.
Can one love a litter box more than I love this one? I think not! After using the traditional litter pans of all sizes, some with hoods, some without, some with doors, some without and the igloo type litter pan I have FINALLY found a litter pan that keeps my boys urine IN the box. This is genius. I don't have a problem with the lid like others do. It's not on the tightest so when you open it it may pop off the hinge. You know what? I don't care! That is a small price to pay for not having to clean up urine all over my floor. Seriously, what is wrong with these boy cats?!! The other litter pans I tried always had one flaw - the top fits OVER the bottom. Dumb in my opinion because when they pee on the side of top part it runs down the side and out the lip that hangs over the bottom piece. Why not make it fit inside? My boys found it necessary to hang their little selves out the door on the traditional ones and over the side in the igloo so it ran down the stairs. UGH! I am SOOOO pleased with this one I ordered a second and when I can afford it I am ordering a 3rd (I have multiple cats). The sides are high enough that they have privacy and the opening is large enough to accomodate my larger cat. Love the hook for scooper too. The plastic is very nice, not flimsy at all. Yes, they track litter out of the pan but again, it's a small price to pay for my biggest problem. I do not care that there is a hump in the one side on the bottom. I just scoop around and over it. When I completely clean out the litter pan it will get hosed off anyway. Problem solved, now I can move on with my life. If you have a problem like I did you will want this pan. Would not recommend it for a kitten as the sides are too high for it to get in and out easily.

Pleasantly surprised!
Where to begin! Letโs dive into it:The main reason we bought this: litter control. We have 4 cats and 2 of them are absolute menaces when it comes to making a mess. The top part definitely does its job. Not 100%, but pretty darn good. You may notice some litter sitting around on the top part, but itโs easy enough to carefully remove and shake any off into the actual bin. Oh, and just make sure to put the side with the entry hole against a wall. Iโm taking a star off because that top part fits very loosely. Itโs easy to accidentally pop it off too hard and potentially get litter all around. Donโt put the liner in between where the lid and bin connect, it makes it even easier to pop out. Youโll have to pull some bag aside to avoid the connection. Also, Iโm starting to feel the bag liners are almost pointless, with the reason above coming into this. Itโs hard to get them to fit well in the pan, and they rip very easily when scooping. Smell-wise, it does an ok job. All in all I do recommend this. We had that big robot litter machine thing and I hated that. It seemed like more work than a regular litter bin.

Great Litter Box for the price
I bought what I thought would be a perfect litter box. Stainless steel tray, great looking and over $100. It failed dismally in the "retain cat pee" department. All the seams leaked pee into the space between the stainless tray and the bottom of the litter box. Money wasted. I bought this as a replacement. Perfect for High Peeing cats! Love the flip lid. Highly recommend. Easy to clean, looks nice, good for big cats.

Very pleased!
I have a number of cats and a number of litter boxes. I added this one to the mix with some trepidation. Some of mine have not liked covered boxes, and this one seems covered to the max. Plus years ago, when the top entry boxes first appeared on the market, they were very expensive, like around $75 if I remember correctly. I thought it ridiculous then as I would now. So at the time, I bought a storage box and cut a hole in the lid, figuring with litter inside it should do the same thing. But my cats wouldn't have anything to do with it. My creation was a total failure. I was skeptical of that kind of box ever since. But I saw this one at a good price (under $20) and thought I would give it a try. I'm really glad I did. Two of my cats took to it instantly and seem to love it! Maybe it's a kitty privacy thing. A third cat -- one whose almost 17 -- appears to be thinking it over, sitting on top and trying to decide if she wants to go in. I've only had it a couple of days now, and it can take cats awhile to adapt. And I still have other boxes for them to use. Anyway, I like the size. It seems roomy enough without being overwhelming in our small house. It's sturdy as well. I kind of wish the lid had a hinge to just swing it back without completely removing. It's really too small an entry hole to scoop the litter through, so I have to take the lid off. Not a real problem, but I'm just saying. The one possible drawback is that it is deep, so it requires some leaning over to clean. I'm short and have back issues, so that's a bit of a hurdle; however, the depth of it adds to the boxes ability to contain the sand. And besides pleasing your cats, that's pretty much the selling point of these: the sand does not get all over! I guess odors are somewhat contained as well. I have just ordered a second one of these for my daughter's room because the scattered litter is bothersome for her. So I do think this box is a good solution. I can't say for sure that every cat will like this box. It is different from what many are used to, and cats do not always like the same thing. A friend of mine loves those Breeze boxes, but my cats have never much liked that system. But for us this Petmate one is working out well. I would suggest leaving the kind of box they are used to in place during a switch over, just to make sure they are comfortable and there aren't accidents. It's better to have extra boxes with a multi-cat household anyway.

Great idea but not-so-great implementation
I like the idea of a deep litter box with the opening on the top, which should theoretically reduce the spread of litter around the litter box. I also like the fact that it is rectangular, and so easier for a scoop to clean the litter clumps. However, the actual box wasn't designed well. The top has hinges on one side to make it easy to open the litter box when cleaning. But the plastic top was too thin and flimsy and so the hinges didn't work. As a result, the top was just resting on the box and so was unsteady and easy for the cats to knock off, which was scaring them from climbing on it to get into the litter box.

Sturdy, perfect size, and practical
UPDATE:My 2 Persians (one is 16lb the other is about 10lb) both use their new box.I have zero sand overflowing my bathroom (biggest reason I switched) and cats are having no problem using it.Highly recommend!Old review:Just received my new litter box; have not tried it with the cats yet, but so far, its exactly what I wanted. This will be my first top entry box, but anyone who has been heavily researching and seeing photos of the weird indent on the side that would inevitably be the bane of anyone's existence, I'm happy to report that the issue has been fixed and mine arrived with a completely flat bottom. The top is sturdy, but I've yet to figure out exactly how they engineered it to open. One side has little bracket type things that seem to have no relevance. The opening is large. My cat is large, 16lb, he will definitely fit, its almost half of the opening. I'm a bit bummed at how open it is (considering smell) but I'm sure with regular changes, it shouldn't be any issue. It fit snug under my cabinet sink, I had to really nudge it in for perfect fit, but it fit! (Insert happy dance here)Took the advice of someone on some review on some litter box (I went through 100s before settling on this one) about pam spraying the bottom and nothing should stick (olive oil rubbed in w/ napkin in my case) hopefully that helps, cuz my 2 cats are serious diggers.Only thing I didn't like is that the corners almost look like they've been broken off, not a huge deal since its under the sink anyways, but makes me wonder if there is supposed to be some brackets there that got broken off before shipping? Who knows. Maybe that reflects on the cheap price so the cut corners? (No pun intended) either way, lid works fine so I'm not too worried about it.Overall, I'M happy, now it comes down to whether or not my 2 Persians accept this new contraption. Will update on that!

Good product
I use these litter liners with a different make of top-entry litter box, so I can't speak to the fit with the Petmate brand litter box - but I've found them to be a good product, never had any holes or tearing (and one of my cats is a highly determined digger!)
