FUTURO 48579EN Adjustable Sport Hinged Knee Brace

I have a very weak left knee of 20 years, I usually strap it with neoprene when I play badminton or go walking to protect but sometimes it isn't enough and swells up, I used this over the weekend as we went to Center Parcs and did a lot of walking (around 13 miles each day). I have to say it is very easy to put on, incredibly supportive but without making you sweat and overheat on your knee, I wore it for 12 hours with no discomfort and the hinged area really does give more support than just a bandage or strap. Overall very much recommended.

Given to a family member who suffers with a "suspect" knee. The principal for the hinged knee is to give support, in a structured way, to a weak knee. Fortunately, I have never required such a device so I cannot review whether, or not, it is fit for purpose. However, as a support device I expect it to perform adequately. The ongoing issue will be if the recipient can resume active sport participation following use of this hinged knee.

This has worked for my husband. He has an unstable tear to the anterior meniscus. Which is very painful and makes certain movements very difficult. The construction of this knee support is amazing . It is soft on theinside, no rubbing seams. The metal hinges keeps the knee stable and the straps are adjustable and secure. I was looking at this type of knee support in the shops before we were lucky enough to try this one and the price is comparable.

Our son has a damaged knee due to a sports injury some years ago and struggles to keep up football which he loves.we figured this was worth a try and we are so pleased we did. A little fiddly to work out first time but with practice and regular use it would be a doddle. Fits either left or right so multi purpose and allowd the knee to breathe. Is washable and wearable under or over the clothes. He has used this today for training and a match later in the day and said it was comfortable, didnt stop him playing and has left him with far less aches than normal. Sucess we think .

My first impression was that this would be most uncomfortable to wear but, in fact, it is surprisingly comforting and supportive. I'm a huge fan of this and would recommend it to everyone. However, in cases of injury or greater pain levels, this Futuro product offers a greater degree of protection and support. It is much bulkier and skinny jeans would be a "no no" with it on, it's definitely very clinical looking.Unfortunately, a fortnight ago, I suffered a torn ligament in my left knee due to a large dog crashing into my shin at speed! My Physio suggested a knee support as he says it's a misconception that wearing one weakens the muscles. It just offers much needed relief and reassurance. I can even kneel on it now, can't do this at all with the brace off.

I've given it two stars as it works (it gives knee support), but there are far better alternatives out there. After developing knee pain due to over-indulging in Kung Fu, I've been trying out various knee supports. There's only one that gives both the support and the flexibility to bend the knee and do active sports such as Tai Chi and Kung Fu and other martial arts. It's this one: Mueller 59857 Max Knee Strap - OSFM, Black - you'll notice that one (Mueller 59857) has a much larger space around the patella, has only two (very strong) straps, and is flexible behind the knee.The Futuro on the other hand, has no less than four velcro straps and two velcro flaps, which are really cumbersome to so up and untangle (they tend to attach to each other). The support areas cover such and expanse of leg that it gets hot and uncomfortable quickly. It supports the knee by dramatically restricting movement. When I tried to bend my knees to 90 degrees (e.g. sitting) the two straps at the back of the knee pinched my skin - not nice.Overall, it feels like an old fashioned design, not made for comfort. It's possible to get excellent knee support without all those straps and flaps. Impossible to run in these, yet I do so in the Mueller 59857 - so check those out.Another one to look at, if you prefer lots of wrapping, is this one: Neo G MEDICAL GRADE ADVANCED HINGED OPEN PATELLA KNEE BRACE/SUPPORT 'breathable design' which I tried before the Mueller - again, found it too restrictive, but even this one is considerably better than the Futuro.

I’m a middle-aged runner and like lots of people have had knee problems on and off over the years. I’ve tried various knee braces and bands. I prefer braces like this which have a hole in them for the knee cap because they tend to stay in place rather than gradually slide down the leg which some other types do.This one is larger than most but provides a lot of stability. There are quite a few straps, it’s easy enough to put on to walk around the house in but for running It takes a little while to get the tightness right to allow enough mobility in the joint to run. If you can get away with a smaller strap, you’ll probably prefer to run using that but if your injury needs the extra stability that this one gives then this brace could be a good match.

It helps to take the pressure off the joint. My husband is waiting for a knee replacement and this is heping him stay mobile until he gets one.

A great sturdy brace which I have used after a patella fracture

I'm buying this for the second time now. I've had 2 pair of these for the last 3 years and decided that it was time for a fresh pair. I have osteoarthritis and am trying to avoid knee replacement surgery for as long as possible. I've also had meniscus tears that required repair surgery on one side. I tried quite a few other types of knee supports and braces but found that the only really effective options here required the support provided by hinged braces. It's very important to prevent side-to-side movement and even more so to avoid over extending your leg all the way out as this puts damaging stress on the meniscus material that causes the tears and will prevent any healing to take place. So here you have the hinges to keep the rotation fully straight and the brace itself to prevent just enough over extension to be comfortable and still stand properly.I wear these on both legs as the arthritis in on both sides, but tend to only need only one most of the time. So they do work on either leg. At first the neoprene material feels a bit tight, but it will loosen up over time. I've worn them mowing grass and found they clean up in the washer very well. You'll only need to pull the hinges out before and replace them back making sure that the bent part of the hinge is away from your leg. The neoprene isn't a breathable material, so if you live in a warm area, you may want to consider strapping them on over something absorbent on your leg to cut down the sweating. Maybe a bit dorky, but I wear them over my sweat pants. Hint: you'll find them the most comfortable if you take care when putting them on to get the opening in the front of the brace directly over your knee cap and pull the neoprene around as much as possible to prevent the velcro from chafing the back of your leg (make sure the straps are fully loosened while you do this). I also use the product tag to make sure I put them on the same direction every time so that they keep the same shape as when wearing them.I'm replacing these as they are several years old now and the stitching and material has worn down a bit. Among the options however, this is the best I've found. The only alternative are very pricey custom adjustable braces that cost over $200. I find they offer no real improvement over these when worn properly and sell at a fraction of the cost.
