An excellent value oven
I first seen a Halogen oven about 10 years ago and liked the idea of it, unfortunately there where several hundred pounds for the oven only, no accessories and I did not think it would be worth it. I was given a gift voucher for Christmas and I had already picked what I wanted, but I was just looking for things to buy with it to use the full amount at once, I stumbled across this while looking at pasta machines. I did not know Amazon sold Halogen ovens and could not believe that this one was only £39.95 including a whole load of accessories. I read a lot of the reviews, and was worried about buying it as some of the reviews where really bad. I decided to take the risk anyway as I believed it was excellent value and a gift voucher was paying for it. I have been using it now for almost 4 months, and I must say I had no reason to be worried. It is used every single day in my house, cooks everything extremely fast and to perfection. I have not used my gas oven (which cooks so unevenly) or my microwave since I have had it. I seen reviews where a large number of people where saying that its difficult to figure out how long to cook it for. I have not had this problem. I put everything in for half the recommended time at the temp specified for a fan oven and it is usually right on, somethings I have had to leave in a wee bit longer. The benefit of having the glass bowl is that you can watch it cook and you can usually tell if something is cooked or not! Don't forget it has a timer too, so no accidentally forgetting about it and coming back to burnt food either!! The only kind of downside to it is cleaning it, it does have a self clean feature, but if you manage to get it very dirty it doesn't properly clean the bowl, but its easy to just take the bowel to the sink (as its not dishwasher safe) and give it a good wipe inside. Its definitely easier than cleaning a gas oven so who am I to complain!! I do agree however that the instruction booklet could be better, but its not rocket science to figure out! Overall this is excellent value for money, and I'm so glad I bought it.

You Wont Want To Stop Cooking With It...!!!
In this review I'm going to write about one small negative first...then go onto a truck load of positives. The "lid stand" for all makes of Halogen Ovens, seem to be constructed in the same way. You slide the lid in between two formed , shaped legs, not easy when you first try, but you do sort of get used to it. This is the third Halogen Oven I have bought. The first was so noisy I needed to wear ear defenders...the second got so hot it sprayed metal filings from the fan down into the food...neither should have made it pass the manufactures back door, needless to say they were promptly sent back... I now own one of Thee Best additions to the kitchen...!!! The Andrew James Halogen Oven... to say I'm really, really pleased with it, is an understatement. I Love it ... Not only does the contemporary design look great on my kitchen worktop...it does exactly what it says on the box...it's so simple and convenient to use...It's so quick to heat up...so easy to clean...it puts the fun back into your cooking...just watch as your sausage's brown...you can even watch as your cakes rise...! With This model you get a whole host of accessories...including.....lifting tongs...steam tray...baking tray...lid holder which is very handy for placing the lid onto when hot...the instruction/recipe booklet from the manufacture is very basic...an Andrew James recipe book is also thrown in...this one is much better...with loads of tips and recipe's in it. I think I'm right in saying this is the only oven that comes with a spare heating element... For me one of the best accessory's, is the extender ring. this gives you extra hight to the oven, for cooking those slightly bigger chickens ect...simply place the extender ring on top of the glass bowl the lid then fits onto the top of the metal extender ring...Simple...! having used this extender ring, I would not want to be without it...all of the above is included in the price...when you consider you have to pay extra for most of the above with other makes of oven...this one...really is...great value for money...! So far...I have cooked...medium size Roast Chicken...Roast Potato's...Sausages... "STEAMED" Carrots/Potato's/Cabbage/Peas/Green beans/....."BAKED" Potato's/Vanilla Sponge/Cup Cakes/Carrot Cake/Cheese Scones/...All with Great Success...!!! it steams vegetables beautifully...just place your veg in some tin foil then drop in a table spoon or so of water close the foil up tightly and in about 20 minutes eat and enjoy...! some foods...but not all...cook faster in a Halogen Oven than they do in a conventional one... the best advise is...a little trial and error will have you using this oven like a pro in no time...Like anything new, it will take you a little time to get used to it...but when you do...you will not want to stop cooking with it...!!! it's the best thing since sliced bread... oh by the way...I'm going to try some of that next...!!! To sum up the Andrew James Halogen Oven.....it's Brilliant !!!...dose exactly what says on the box...I'm giving it a big...9 out of 10...if the "lid holder" had been better designed it would have got full marks...but don't let one little minor point put you off buying this Extremely Versatile Multi Functional kitchen appliance...because it dose come Highly Recommended...I now have a conventional oven for sale...if any one is interested...!!! osie...

Good Oven
I have had this oven for 3 months now and so feel like I can give a fair review. First off after 3 months of moderate use the halogen bulb went. After a quick phone call to Andrew James a replacement lid was on its way and received the next working day. Excellent customer service cannot fault them there. I had the old style lid apparently. This new style allows you to change the bulbs yourself, but like another reviewer said... I don't know if this means that your warranty would then be void & I don't know how much the replacement bulbs cost. It is great though that you can replace them as otherwise after the warranty runs out it would mean purchasing a new lid. I really like the oven. It is much quicker at cooking meats than using a conventional oven and they come out more succulent and evenly cooked. Vegetables are great tasting too but I have noticed that they don't cook much quicker... it is just that you don't have to wait for the oven to warm up. My biggest fault is that it does not cook food very well when you are using two levels. I question if you can cook a roast dinner like you see on the commercials whilst using two levels. The lower level does not get enough heat. It appears to be that the light needs to have direct contact with the food in order for it to cook properly. I now avoid cooking on two levels. When I do I make sure that the light can get through to the majority of the food by strategically arranging items. But this means that I am not using the oven to its full specified capacity. Also whenever I use the top level I have to use the extender ring as well, otherwise the food on the top rack has a tendency to burn. Little niggles are that you can't turn the timer backwards. So once you have cooked some food you will hear a `ding' noise sometime afterwards. The self cleaning feature is gimmicky & not worth the bother & the baking trays supplied are a bit flimsy and don't have much of a non-stick coating. I am on the lookout for some better quality trays. Overall the oven is great & one of my best buys. The time saving element/quality of cooked food more than compensates for the criticisms I described. I think it is great for a single person or a small family. Although a family of 4 or more would find it tricky to find enough room in the oven especially with the cooking on two levels scenario.

Lasting well
I just had to write a good review of this product. I am not keen on writing reviews of electrical equipment too quickly as they can go wrong early. However I purchased this 2 and a half years ago. Now although initially yes they did send me the wrong product and asked me to return it before they would send out the correct one, after speaking with customer service as I could not afford that further delay, they apologised, sent me the correct item immediately and on same day I returned their mistake free of charge to them. Good customer service. I have used many of these ovens since they started to appear and I love them. They cook things like fish, chicken, steaks so well and they are much juicier than when cooked in standard oven. They are very easy to use and save me a fortune. I rarely use my full oven anymore. However this model has lasted the longest. Yes I did pay more than it is currently priced at. However it was worth every penny. It may not last much longer, however I still have the spare bulb (unused) which was one of the reasons I purchased in the first place. I think 2 and half years with daily use is pretty good going for a middle price oven. None of my others lasted nearly as long. I didn't need their two year warrantly. I would purchase this same oven again even if my spare bulb ends up not working. If anyone has never tried these halogen ovens I would recommend giving one a go. If you are a big family as an addition to your other oven. If you are a 1 or 2 person household you will find after starting with these and getting used to them, you will rarely use your full oven. Update: I wrote this review in June 2014 and now we are August 2017. My oven finally gave up the ghost a month or so back after 5 and half years of constant use. the inside lid finally just burnt away lol. I can say I started with Halogen ovens from when they were still very new and this is the first one that has lasted so long. Most varied between months to a year or so, hence my original review stating 2 and half years great. I never used the replacement bulb. I have been without for a month and have to be honest missing it a lot. I used almost every day for 5 and half years. Can't get better than that and I will get the same again. I really hope that in that time the quality has not changed on this item. The best halogen oven I ever purchased so far :)

Great, however a few minor problems that can be solved with practice..
This item is very good and highly efficient. This item comes with a replaceable spare bulb, I like the way you can replace the bulbs as some other ovens don't offer this feature. When I first received the item the white plastic base - which holds the glass bowl, was damaged during delivery. This was not a problem for Andrew James, I sent a picture of the damaged base and they were quick to send one out. I describe the customer service as excellent for handling this. I fully recommend reading the manual before use, you must not turn the timer dial anticlockwise, whilst the oven is on or off as this can damage the oven. Just keep it running after cooking. I think a hinged lid would be better, as it can be a little inconvenient when the stand gets stuck to the lid when checking your food. I like the way it switches off when you lift up the handle this is an excellent idea, however it takes some getting used to,(at first) to remember to press it down. At first I thought it wasn't working but you have to make sure the handle is pressed down fully. I am thinking about purchasing a red one as I prefer the colour more then the white. I am yet to try out the wash function so I don't really know if it's any good as of yet. The timers full capacity is 60 minutes and the oven can cook up to 250 degrees which is very good, depending on how quick you wish to cook your food. I don't recommend getting cold water on this product until it has cooled down completely as this would cause the glass to break. At first I followed the instructions for making a piece of toast to test it out, very nice toast indeed. Grilling chips and chicken burgers. It seems to cook some of the chips quicker then others. The Chicken burgers turned out great and the chips just fine as long as you rearrange them and turn them over. Roast chicken - I think next time round I might use the extender ring as it cooked the part of the chicken nearest to the heat source quicker then other areas. Some parts of the chicken didn't get cooked and I had to cut it open to cook these parts. I totally overlooked using the extender ring - easily done as it was my first time roasting a chicken. Maybe it would work better and cook more evenly if the extender ring was used. You do need to turn the chicken over half way throughout. The Chicken in the end was lovely. If cooking the chicken doesn't work with the extender ring, I won't be roasting a whole chicken instead I think it may be more suited to smaller pieces of chicken such as thigh, wings or breast, as it can cook these more efficiently. Stand is difficult to know how to use at first but got the hang of it. Recipe book has many helpful recipes.

Burnt food and yet more burnt food. Terrible!
I purchased two of these halogen ovens through Amazon in the past month. I was impressed by the build quality. However both ovens were deemed as failures for the following reasons and were returned for refunds. What I found was …… Temperature control was faulty on both units. Both gave similar results of burnt or over cooked food. Dial temp. 125 Actual temp after 20 minutes 135 deg C Dial temp. 150 Actual temp after 20 minutes 190 deg C Dial temp. 170 Actual temp after 20 minutes 210 deg C Dial temp. 200 Actual temp after 20 minutes 230 deg C Dial temp. 225 Actual temp after 20 minutes 270 deg C Dial temp. 250 Actual temp after 20 minutes 290 deg C I was very disappointed with these two units and wonder if these came from a bad batch? I would buy again, but am somewhat reluctant based on this experience. I passed this information onto Andrew James Customer Services and this was the disappointing response………. Hi, Thank you for your feedback, were really sorry to hear you have had issues with your appliances, we have passed your feedback over to the relevant team that can be addressed internally. Kind regards Thank you for contacting Andrew James Customer Services

Halogen Oven
I had previously owned a halogen cooker but had decided not to buy another as it takes up worktop. However, after struggling for about a month or so I decided that it had become an essential part of my equipment and at the general cost of the cooker I would not have a problem if I had to purchase one each year, but the 2 YEAR WARRANTY is a definite bonus. My last one did need a couple of replacement parts but I did use it for 3 years. I was pleased with the quality of the Andrew James version as the extras were better quality than I had with the previous source. It is cleaner to use, easy to clean, cooks well after you get used to it, no smoke or smell in the kitchen (unless you burn food of course), less grease rising into the kitchen, and I have researched the halogen factor which is cheaper to run so saves some of its own costs. My only down sides are size (I did buy the largest but the extension rim does help to some extent and if it was wider the worktop factor would be a problem), and there is no insulation so some heat is obviously lost but the visability of the food is worthwhile. Excellent for grilling such as bacon or sausages. STEAK is very easy to cook as there is the heat needed for whatever rare to well done you may require. If I wish to cook slower foods I do ensure there is a cover over the food until I need to brown the food. Try roasting potatoes mmmmm!! I use it far more than any other cooker source (and I have several different types). The delivery was fast. My only other comment is the spare bulb could be protected as once it is unpacked it is difficult to store as a spare. THE COOK BOOK is well worth reading.

2012s answer to the Atari games console
There's no doubt that halogen cooking is the future - it's fuel efficient, generally quick and clean. Don't get me wrong, I really don't want to discourage you to buy one - we got ours at Christmas and have used it almost every day but - there's a bit of feel of 1970s microwave about the whole thing - a sense, if you will, that this is the clunky prototype and which, in a couple of years, will look like a museum piece. Let's start with the timer - remember the old joke with microwaves about the new Indian dish called 'Chicken Ding'? Well it's back with the halogen oven - a horrid old analogue clicky clock which cannot be turned backwards and yes folks, actually goes 'ding' when finished - surely, surely, surely they could have incorporated some good old 1980s LED technology with the timer. As to cooking - well, you're on your own a bit; there's nary a cooking book in the land that will give you halogen oven times so there's a fair bit of experimentation involved - so far we have had quite good part baked baguette, excellent bacon and sausages but very soggy pizza and burned frozen meat pies (you've guessed we're not gourmet chefs). Oddly vegetables take much longer than a standard oven so much of the advantage is lost. One finally little niggle Andrew James - the bowl gets very hot and the flex is designed in such a way that, unless you are cooking in a large farmhouse kitchen with acres of surface space (we're not and nor are most of the country) it tends to rest against said hot bowl - dead dangerous in my book. But look - halogen ovens are cool and are definitely a bit of a talking point at the moment if you like to feel you're on the cutting edge - with a bit of experimentation they do a great job and you can feel all warm and glowy about the reduction in global warming you're contributing to. However, if you don't want to be a pioneer give it a couple of years whilst the lovely one we bought joins the Atari games console and only reappears for TV programmes on the theme of 'remember this?'
