Classic Rock Never Dies
Gov't Mules has delivered some of of the most true classic hard driven rock in recent times. This record follows the same direction. Many though (including me) that the chemestry within the band could be lost because of the death of their former bass player Allen Woody. Fortunate for us, this was not the case. With an all-star line-up of bass player Warren Hayes (Vocals & Guitar) and Matt Abts (Drums) deliver a very inspired recording. This record includes original tunes as well as covers od Creedence Clearwater Revival and Deep Purple.Although there are great bassists like Flea, Jack Bruce and Stefan Lessard among others this is not a bass extravaganza record. Every player focused on the song rather than the instrument making the band sound as a tight unit on every track. The best thing is that this is Vol. 1. By next year Vol. 2 will be released with more guess player backing this incredible band. I just hope we get a chance to see a live performance video sometime.

Gov't Mule is GREAT BLUES ROCK!!
Gov't Mule has been lumped into the jam band category, but their music is hardly just noodling solos, half-a*sed melodies and nonsense lyrics. Their albums are cohesive, SOLID, INTENSE, GREAT SONGS! A little jazz influence, too, of course. And they do like to solo--hey, it's Warren Haynes with the Allman Brothers, after all--but their material, along with the Black Crowes' latest offerings, is heads and shoulders above ANY hard/southern/blues rock band out there today. For a long time I avoided Gov't Mule because I thought they were just a jam band with long, boring, jazzy songs. Boy, was I wrong! DEAD wrong! Get ALL of Gov't Mule albums if you like Skynyrd, the Allmans, Led Zeppelin, Blackfoot, the Black Crowes....you will be KICKING yourself for not discovering this band years ago!!The only album of theirs I DON'T recommend is their latest--Mighty High. It's nothing but boring, industrial-ish reggae. If you like that kind of music, then fine, you'll probably like it. For me, it was a waste of money. I just hope their next effort is back to the blues rock that they are best known for.

Plain Good Southern Rock
It is hard to beat Southern Rock done right, and Gov't Mule has the genre down pat. My favorites; Banks Of The Deep End (with a touch of Thick As A Brick of all things), Worried Down With The Blues, and the beautiful Beautifully Broken.Just when you thought there was no hope for today's music, Southern Rock returns. Thanks Mule.

Government Mules just ain't what they used to be
My last government mule came to me back in 1865 with 40 acre of some of the most miserable land you ever set your eyes on. Well instead of farming I set up moonshining and ate the mule, the 'shine weren't so good but the mule was mighty tasty.

One Great Song, One Good One
One of the best rock love songs ever written (GM fans know which one) but I only really liked one other song on the CD. I will record those two songs on a compilation GM CD and then offer this CD on Ebay.

A compilation album that actually isn't.
The concept of the album having a different bass player on each track makes this an interesting format that covers a wide range of styles that is probably wider than Govt Mule would normally cover. However they do it so well and all the tracks have a different feel to them. All tracks are good but there are some absolute gems in there also, mostly those that suit what you would expect of Govt Mule. Well worth adding to the collection.

Anspruchsvolle Rockmusik vom Feinsten
Also ein absoluter Kauftipp!!!
