Can I use the Wii remotes from the old Wii to play this?

Yes. My son (9 year old) has been using it. Also the game pad with the wi u can be used. However he has been moaning about the slight inconvenience of using the old wii remote, especially when playing with his friends and thus twisted my arm in getting him a new wireless remote.
