20kg onions - not one tear
OK, so I needed to peel, slice and cook 20kg of onions in an evening and it struck me that a little assistance might be necessary. I react horribly to onions and I knew this was not going to be pretty. So, I invested in a Mandoline: Chef's INSPIRATIONS Premium V Blade Stainless Steel Mandoline Food Slicer, Cutter & Julienne Slicer. Best For Slicing Fruit & Vegetables. Heavy Duty & Professional. Includes 5 Different Inserts, Cleaning Brush & Exclusive Blade Safety Sleeve. , highly recommended, and these goggles, and I set to. The first indication I had that these were working was about an hour in when my children came to me with streaming eyes and begged me to stop chopping - the fumes had gone into the dining room and the living room and the atmosphere was pretty much unlivable and I happily stood in the epicentre of the damage, chopping away. Excellent product.

These really are all purpose, they do keep one's eyes protected
Protecting ones eyes is so very important, and there are so many options, so why choose these? Money. These are an affordable option that don't promise too much, which means that people will inevitably use them for all manner of reasons, alternate uses of which you might be seeking for yourself - and for me it was coping with Essential Oils. Yes, they do work with Onions (as advertised), my eyes will not betray me when wearing them. However, over time I found that the lens would scuff due to it's convex design, so best kept inside the plastic case they came in. It itself also made form polymer and susceptible to the rigours of travel and frequent use, but nothing a little bit of sticky tape couldn't fix :) So why use them for Essential Oils? Well, ever gotten shampoo in your eyes, now you know, but worse! ** note: the best method of dealing with oil splashes onto one's eyes is with an Alkaline solution like milk, then to wash it away with water ** The Essential Oils market is one of the last to not be officially regulated for some reason, so there is a lot of cowboy nonsense going on, and a lot of trial and error. There is also a large dedicated community that comes with it, and time and time again I see people who make their own soap, or use Essential Oils for making their own balms (a similar process) or perfumes rely on these goggles as sufficient protection. ** note: I would only rely on a full facial mask from the likes of 3M when dealing with Sodium Hydroxide during the "hot" soap making process ** I've never worried when dealing with Essential Oils while wearing these goggles, never cried when chopping Onions (or even worse, Horse Radish), and worn a separate pair dedicated to tool work such as hammering nails or cutting down fallen branches from trees (not recommended, but better than nothing). Available in different colours, they can be segregated for different uses, although prices vary. I do find that they can fog after time, say when cleaning and you sweat and get hot, they will cloud up. The only improvement I would make would be to allow for a small compartment so that an aftermarket neodymium magnet could be placed inside, this allowing them to be magnetically "hung" on anything metallic, or of a ferrite material (e.g. a fridge). Pros: • Price and availability • They work on Onions • Coloured options for different uses Cons: • Can steam up when body is hot • Non-magnetic for hanging storage

Poor fit
I bought these specifically for chopping or grating onions. Obviously, they won’t fit everyone. But for the price, they should have a way of adjusting them for fit. I don’t have a particularly big head & standard sunglasses fit me fine. Looked decent quality. They have been returned. Nice idea though!

What a good idea
I actually bought a pair of these a while ago and bought these for my daughter who says she does not need them but now she has her own kitchen I hope she will be cooking more. I insisted she take them saying I can use then when I visit and help cook. They fit over your ears like ordinary glasses. If you wear ordinary glasses with a strong prescription you may not be able to see properly through these as you have to take your proper glasses off. I find I need them if I am cutting up strong Spanish Onions or a lot of onions. If I am cutting up just one ordinary onion I don't need to put them on. A good product if you need them.

A must for no teary eyes!
Okay,so you won't be the height of fashion and your partner may just ridicule you every time you wear them (a tad dangerous considering the fact I have a knife in my hand) but these are a must have bit of kit for the dreaded onion. A bit tight to open so don't overstretch the arms when putting them on (this is how I broke the first pair) but very comfortable when on. They come in their own pouch to keep them scratch free. Would not cut up onion without them as they do stop the fumes getting to your eyes.

Lifesaver for me!
I looked at these for over 2 years wondering if they really worked and thinking how silly the concept. After cutting myself badly and requiring stitches the last time I had to handle onions because I was sobbing so hard and my eyes burned so badly, I thought, what the heck? I caved in and purchased them. It was that or give up cooking with onions forever. Now, one might think I'm exaggerating but I'm not. I have never, ever been able to peel or cut even a single onion without the flood gates opening everywhere. I've tried all the tricks, including wearing gloves to keep the odor from my hands to no avail. I have brothers in the both police and firefighter fields and aside from making fun of me (that's what brothers do and I'm used to it), they have both at some time or other told me, amidst their ridiculous laughter, that my reaction to onion fumes is quite similar to the training methods for both police and firefighters where gas masks are required for a jaunt through the smoke or gas house or mace is used during training. I cannot say I disagree with them. I'm more than a mess. I must admit I was extremely disappointed when I tried these on. Although I need reading glasses for close work, when working with onions I couldn't wear the readers anyway because of the pain and tears in my eyes - just couldn't see, so the fact that these don't fit over prescription glasses wasn't a big deal for me. My disappointment was that they don't fit snugly against my face so the rubber liners were pretty useless. Rather than return them, however, I spent a few more bucks on a sports strap that secures glasses to one's head and tried them together. Just this morning I made 2 huge crock pots of beef stew (yeah, we're shoveling out still another foot of snow here in the Northeast this morning) and that meant onions. I tried the goggles with the security strap and didn't cut myself once, didn't cry, didn't feel the burn in my eyes. I could barely smell the onion fumes and found myself still wearing the silly looking goggles when I carried the stoneware to the actual crockpot base. I could have removed the goggles at least 8 minutes earlier and forgot I had them on. These work. Plain and simple provided they fit accurately. I'm going to get another pair and another strap so if this pair wears out, I've got another waiting in the wings. I couldn't be happier with this product unless, of course, it came with a security strap.

No more tears!
I really suffered from an allergic reaction to onions. When slicing just 1 onion, my eyes would burn and I would tear up so much I couldn't keep my eyes open to finish cutting it. These goggles TOTALLY ELIMINATED that. I had no burning, no tears. I felt maybe the slightest irritation but it passed in a second or two. If you suffer as I did, I would highly recommend this product. It's not often a product lives up to its claims 100% but, for me, this product is perfect.
