Sonder Los Angeles Winsome Acacia Wood Cutting Board, 16x12x1.5 in

The cutting board is beautiful and sturdy, and deserves 5 stars just on its own, but it was our experience with the company that made me want to write a review. First, the Board: The color you see in the picture is very accurate and the acacia wood is high quality. As stated in the description it works as a cutting board and as a cheese or display board for hors d'oeuvres. We make sure to only cut on the correct side so we can keep the display side clear. Due to the dark wood the cuts left by knives do leave some light marks that caught my eye but this is mainly because the wood is so damned gorgeous I felt bad for cutting it! The color of the cutting board side has gotten a little lighter as we have used it more, but this was easily restored with a little mineral oil as recommended by Tarek from Sonder LA. (more on this below). The finger holds on the side are plenty deep to get a good grip if needing to carry it while food is on it. We love it so much we decided that it gets a permanent place on our counter after being cleaned. The company: When we first got the board we noticed there was a small crack in one of the long strips of wood in the cutting board side. It was very small and was in the wood itself, not in the seem between lengths. I was going to request and return through amazon but, as a small business owner, I would prefer someone talk to me directly. So I decided to email them directly. I told them that there was a small crack and that I was unsure if they would prefer me use Amazon or if they could help me out. They responded very quickly and were very grateful that I took the time to email directly. Tarek was happy to resolve my problem quickly and sent me a new board. He was very pleased to hear how much I appreciated the board and I could easily see the pride he takes in the business and their product. A couple of days later I had a question about how to properly care for the board (I never thought I would care enough about a cutting board to properly take care of it) and he responded with equally enthusiasm and joy. If you are looking for a high-quality, beautiful cutting board that can also be a center piece in a food display, or even just left on your counter top because it is pretty, then this board is the one. Add in the obvious appreciation the company has for their work and customers, and it makes it even better. Thanks, Tarek!

To say that I am impressed with my new Sonder cutting board is simply not enough. I received the Sonder Winsome board a few days ago and it is quite beautiful. I washed and oiled it, as per instructions, and while using it for the first time I noticed a small line that was concerning. Since Sonder offers a warranty, I immediately reached out to Sonder LA in an email and included pictures...just to be sure. I received a thoughtful and comprehensive reply a short time later. While reassuring me the line was likely a normal seam, I was asked to send a pic with a different view. After sending a new pic, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a response from Sonder's co-founder on a weekend! I was reassured this was a normal seam and the construction of the board was solid. I understand Sonder LA is a small business and the care they show their customers is exceptional. The email conversations were thorough, kind and gracious. I chose Sonder for a new cutting board based on online recommendations. I wanted a quality board without spending upwards of $300 for a cutting board. I am happily confident that I accomplished just that with my Sonder cutting board. My recommendation is this: do not hesitate to purchase a Sonder LA cutting board!

This cutting board has met and exceeded all my expectations. I appreciate that it is reversible, that the acacia wood is so beautiful, and that I can expect to have this cutting board for years to come. Included with the package was a thank you card from the manufacturer which provided specific care instructions including how to clean my board AND recommendations to treat with a food-grade mineral oil and beeswax blend every 3 weeks.

Very impressed with this wood cutting board, from the moment of opening, to the look and feel of the acacia wood. Its very heavy and thick. It comes pre-oiled and is very sturdy. Flat with no signs of warping and is very durable. It is super easy to clean with a mild soap (NO DAWN POWERWASH) and has no odors. It is the perfect size not too big and not small either. It is very nice, and I highly recommend it.

I purchased this attractive cutting board on Oct 16, 2018, and was impressed with the product, the design, and the packaging. I've used the cutting board merely 1 time, and subsequently washed it very gently as per the product instructions. Today, Nov 8, 2018, roughly 3 weeks since receiving it, I noted the very unseemly crack (picture attached) which has developed between two of the boards. Additionally I see the price is now listed at $10 less than when I purchased it 3 weeks ago. I will be requesting an exchange, as the board is indeed made of very durable hardwood (though, apparently, not very durable glue), and it is otherwise well balanced, well designed, and should be very useful. My expectation and hope will be that this is a one time issue, and that the company making this product will prove me right. I've used my old cutting board for some time now and while it's very functional and does the job, it's not visually appealing and it's easy for liquids to spill to the side. I wanted to upgrade to something better and came across this board by Sonder Los Angeles. It had a lot of positive reviews so I decided to give them a try. I chose to purchase the Acacia wood board because of the modern design and dark rustic color of the wood, as well as some of the functional aspects, such as the groove for catching liquids while cutting, and with a flip-side that can serve as a charcuterie board. I've only seen boards either for cutting or for display, so I liked to multi-purpose use with the board. Also, big bonus points for this board for using Acacia wood as a sustainable and eco-friendly material. The board was packaged in a nicely designed box conveying that modern feel. When taking the board out, it was pretty hefty, which definitely gave it a high-quality feel, and it was not only considerably larger than my previous board but also twice the thickness. I was also very impressed with the craftsmanship of the board upon my initial inspection. The color of the finish is very nice and I love the wood texture. The grooves for catching liquid is nice and even and the channel on the charcuterie side is perfectly shaved out. There's also grooves on the sides of the board for easy holding and carrying. All of the edges were sharp, crisp, and straight, which is an attribute to its attention to detail. Overall, it gave me a great first impression. I haven't used it yet for chopping anything; it looks way too nice to cut on! We've used it for preparing and cleaning foods first, and washing and cleaning was no problem at all. I might update when I start chopping. We did use the flip side for a charcuterie display to see what it would look like and it really looks stylish and terrific! You can see in the pictures that we put on some grapes, nuts, other snacks and a block of cheese, but you can definitely put anything you want on there and it will look amazing. We are excited to try different combinations in the future. Ordinarily, I wouldn't rave over something like a cutting board but I think this one takes the cake. I think every kitchen should have a board from Sonder Los Angeles because it looks very sleek and cool, and it has a great multi-purpose function. I also appreciate the sustainability of the material and praise the company for looking for eco-friendly solutions. For $50, this board gives great value in providing durability, functionality, and visibility.

This is my second try at a cutting board of this nature. My fist one (not from this seller) was cracked all over the place and I didn’t even use it yet. This one is a win! Bonus is that both sides are usable for different reasons! The one side is a traditional cutting board with a nice “moat” for collecting any kind of run off from what you are cutting and the other side has a nice area for crackers or whatnot and can be used as a charcuterie board! There are not any rubber footers for slipping/sliding, but I use it on top of a silicone mat and that does the trick! Really nice piece - looks great and functional!

Product quality is as expected. Thoughtful enough to have a card about company history and care instructions. Bought for wife hopefully it'll last through tropical weather in Singapore. Will be buying some food-safe mineral oil for protection.
