Hercules DS561B Bassoon/Bass Clarinet Stand,Black

I bought this for my great bass recorder, after seeing someone else using one for theirs. Yes, it's heavy and a bit unwieldy when folded, but it's much more practical and portable than the built-in stand in the instrument case. This is a great stand, very sturdy and does the job for me perfectly. I can also pick it up and move the recorder very easily. Ideal for playing days and concerts. I am considering adding a couple of Hercules clarinet / flute pegs for a bass and a tenor recorder.

When researching online for a BC stand, I read a lot of bad reviews about this stand but I use Hercules for all my saxes and clarinet/flute and always loiked the nbuild. I was equally pleased with this which is essentially a marmalised baritone stand. At first when I set it up I adjusted the hight, plonked by BC on it though "that's crap" as the bell was toudhing the upright part of the stand. Only then I realised I needed to pull out the fron leg and I exclaimed "that's brilliant". And it is. It's simple, easy too use and holds the instrument safely. It's easy to get the instrument on an off in a hurry (essential in a pit band when you have to dounle on 34 instruments and have quick changes). Criticisms. Far too expensive for what it is, doesn't come with the traditional yellow Hercules bag and doesn't fold very small due to the two piece upright. Perhaps a three piece mechanism would be a big improvement as theis simply doesn't fit in an average to large sized bag.

I bought this for my great bass recorder, for which it works very well. Slightly heavy for carrying around, but then it needs to be sturdy to take the weight of the instruments for which it is intended. Easy to set up. I also use it for my bassoon, for which it is equally useful. For my bass and tenor recorders I had hoped to make bespoke wooden pegs attached to bolts to fit in the auxiliary threaded holes on the legs of the stand, but so far have been unable to find any imperial or metric threads which will fit the holes. Hercules do sell pegs to fit, designed for flute/clarinet or piccolo, but Ihave been unable to find information on whether their pegs would suit the bore of my recorders.

Folds down small enough to go in a small rucksack

I love this stand. My Bass Clarinet sits very comfortably on it and the whole thing is sturdy. I recommend the stand bag by Hercules as it can hold this plus other stands with room to spare.

Apart from weighing a ton and being bigger than I consider 'portable' (it almost reaches my waist and it's not fully extended) it's brilliant for my Eb alto clarinet and takes 2 other pegs for the Bb and Eb soprano clarinet. It hasn't toppled yet and the dogs haven't managed to knock it over (thankfully - the clarinet has it's home there when it's in the house) so all in all, quite impressive. My other stand are K & M and some are over 15 years old and still going strong so we'll see if this lives up to its predecessors track record. I've still got the K & M ones - this is too big and heavy to carry around if I'm only taking the sop out to play, but for days when we all go out together, it's good.

Very durable and the most affordable stand for a bassoon on Amazon. I was very impressed to have gotten a stand for a bassoon. I have used it during a practice and I felt like the bassoon was safe and convenient to grab once I needed it. I highly recommend this stand as it will last you. I decided to also by the stand bag as the bassoon stand was bit on the heavier side and awkwardly shaped which is understandable as it’s a meant for holding a heavy and long instrument. Overall this is a definite buy if you play the bassoon it comes in sooo handy.
