How are these panels connected to each other and how are they best connected to a porch roof? Could they be used as a trellis?

Our contractor made grooves in wood, and framed the panels. Would make a great lattice, not sure about porch roof. They are sturdy, flat, about 1/2 inch thick, same on both sides. Our neighbors love the new fence we made of these, because it looks just as nice on their side. A good product.

How does this panel stand upright?

It has to lean against something or be attached to something that is standing upright. I used mine as a wall decoration that is attached with nails.

Very distinctive and stylish

I used for 3 of these for a home decor project. I stained mdf an espresso color and then nailed these on top. We then painted the side of the wood white to blend the 2 pieces and mounted the finished product on the wall. I attached a picture. It's one of my favorite projects and gets compliments from many guests.
