Creepshow (1982) - Collector's Edition 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray [4K UHD]

How can i ever express my glee toward this 1982 film? From the first viewing i fell in love with the timeless horror classic. This particular entry into the genre is notable for its uncannyand faithful tribute to the 1950's horror comics (as distributed by EC Publishing), its comical charm, its fantastic effects, and its cult creators (Stephen King and George Romero, and effects by fan fave Tom Savini). Packed with five stories of the macabre this film is bound to please fans of horror as well as kids, adults, and most other moviegoers with its immortal style. The first tale provides us with a story regarding a cranky old man that was murdered by his daughter on Father's Day because she grew weary of his actions against her. Knowing that you are watching a Romero/King flick only can assure you of the fun to come from said situation. The second tale of terror stars none other than Stephen King in what is perhaps horror film's most enjoyable guest star role. King plays a simple hick who comes across a meteor which spreads its reign of terror around his home. King provides us with a truly memorable and quirky performance that is sure to remain in most people's minds. The third tale involves a cheating wife and the vengeance of her spiteful husband on both she and her "other" man...naturally taking up on the EC tradition we can only expect the worse lesson for the wrath-ridden husband via supernatural means. The fourth tale is about a strange crate that is discovered beneath the steps of a college stairwell. Within lie the mysterious contents of an Artic expedtion...that we all know will only wreak their havoc. The final creepout is slowly presented to us in the form of an evil tycoon with nothing on his mind but money...and getting rid of filthy cockaroaches (or vice versa?). Each story is fantastically told and to top it all off we are provided with a wraparound tale that introduces the whole chi-bang. This is what fun is all about. No need to take this serious just watch it for the enjoyability factor and you won't be disappointed. Fans will also find, much to their pleasure, a wide array of bedazzling special effects, oddball lighting, unique characters, and overall good direction and storytelling. A definite addition to any sane person's video library. The dvd version is creepshow at its best. Presented in the best color, picture, and sound ever, don't fret video buyers because the dvd sports nothing extra that you might be missing. Regardless of the lack of extra features this dvd is a no miss. Buy it

UPDATE 10/25/18 - SHOUT Remaster: This edition's picture quality is a VAST improvement over the previous BD release, which was soft and suffered from a pronounced jitter (I referred to this issue previously as "wobble). For a film made in 1982, the PQ is sharp and the colors are great, with only a few scenes here and there showing more than the usual amount of filmic grain. Most scenes look amazing, and the picture is rock-solid, no jitter whatsoever. The sound is clear and crisp, but I agree with another reviewer's complaint about the HD 5.1 mix sound levels; I had to really crank up the volume to enjoy the movie until I switched over to the HD 2.0 track, which had more punch. This film was made over 35 years ago, and some productions of this age don't seem to lend themselves to a multi-channel adaptation, and there wasn't a tremendous benefit to the 5.1 mix, to my ears at least. That said, the 2-channel track sounds great. If you love this film as much as I do, this upgrade, though pricey (at this point), is definitely worth it. ==================================================== I have loved "Creepshow" since I saw it in the theater so many years ago. I loved horror comics as a kid, and this movie is the perfect homage to the genre; the stories come across as if they came straight out of "Tales From The Crypt", "Ghosts", "The Witching Hour", and so many others of my beloved creepy comics. Written for the screen by one of my favorite authors, Stephen King, and directed by horror master George Romero, "Creepshow" is, to me, pure horrific genius; this combination of writing and direction elicited wonderful "outside the box" performances from a very talented group of actors, and is what really makes this movie hold up even today as a terrific horror piece. I've lost track of how many times I've seen this film in its various media - theater, VHS, DVD, and now blu-ray, and it can still coax a jump out of me! The blu-ray itself is the best transfer I've seen to date, but it's still not perfect. There is some "telecine wobble" throughout the film, but it seems that may be inherent to the source material; it's been present in every version I've ever seen. Overall, however, I would say that the film looks very good; the colors are well-saturated, and the sharpness and contrast of the picture is generally quite good, especially considering the movie's age. There is some transfer debris, such as specks and scratches, here and there, particularly noticeable during "Something To Tide You Over", but it's still the best "Creepshow" has ever looked for home media. Horror fans, rejoice..."Creepshow" is finally home on blu-ray...can you watch it with the lights off?

One of the best classics of all time, came right away, and I watched it as soon as it arrived!

A true 80's horror classic from two of the best in the business! Offered at a great price, too! It's weird seeing top comedy actors, and one of our best dramatic actors, in these twisted tales, but that just adds to the overall craziness on display. One of my favorites that's a lot of fun!

This is one of the more campy, nostalgic and fun anthologies from the days before anthologies were the “in” thing. Looking for a film that features sea zombies, silly murderous revenge, alien weeds, angry arctic man-eating primates and goofy bug infestations? Then this may be for you. Much like Tales from the Crypt (1972) and The Vault of Horror (1973), Creepshow sweeps us away to a youthful horror comic nostalgia characterized by uncomplex (often unreasonably silly) stories of various hokey campy flavors. So if you’re one to analyze plots or the decisions of characters, you’ll surely find yourself frustrated. Consider this film to be scary only for much younger and more virginal horror fans and more of a nostalgic throwback to lifetime lovers of the genre. Not that I know anything about it, but I’ve read that this is an homage to 1950s EC horror comics. It certainly does have a comicbook-esque simplicity to the stories. Featuring five stories written by Stephen King and directed by George Romero (Dawn of the Dead), this anthology is often revered as a fan favorite. The movie opens with a young boy, his Creepshow comicbook, and a disapproving father, and we subsequently flip through the comic pages in cartoon clip scenes delivering us to the short stories within… Father’s Day is about murdered father who returns as a zombie to exact his revenge on…you guessed it…Father’s Day. This is an excellent example of how analyzing the plot will only upset you. Our zombie father’s grave is right next to his estate and, for whatever reason, it’s only after years and years of posthumous family Father’s Day dinners that the undead patriarch randomly rises. I found it enjoyably hokey and laughed. But make no mistake, this is stupid. LOL. The highlight for me was seeing a young Ed Harris (Snowpiercer) dancing the night away. The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill offers a similar pleasure in that we find a young Stephen King playing a seemingly retarded hillbilly who discovers a meteor in his backyard. The meteor cracks open and oozes a glowing slime which our simpleton touches and finds himself “infected” with some sort of alien weed that grows all over his body, house and yard. The plot may be simple, but it’s not dumb. Sure, there are some hilariously stupid sequences with lame dialogue, but these are the fantasies of a simpleton. So it makes sense. It is funny, a bit creepy, and ends in a brutally practical manner. Something to Tide You Over may have been the most dramatically engaging of the stories, about a methodical husband (Leslie Nielsen; Dracula, Dead and Loving It) who exacts his revenge against his adulterous wife and her lover (Ted Danson) in a rather cruel way…and he records it!!! In this story the humor is subtle and dark, and only campy in the very end for our surprise ending. This and the remaining stories are all a bit more mature. The Crate is far-fetched but I certainly enjoyed the ride. A professor (Hal Holbrook; The Unholy) with a domineering alcoholic wife (Adrienne Barbeau; The Thing, Swamp Thing) encounters a crate that has been long forgotten in storage in the zoology department. Inside the crate waits a hungry, humanoid monster from an Antarctic expedition at the dawn of the century. This story features the most elaborate plot. They're Creeping Up On You was by far my least favorite story of the anthology (followed by Father’s Day). Some rich business man with an overly modern, tech-rich condo and a roach-centric germophobic hypochondriasis finds himself plagued with his perceived incompetence of others and a domestic insect infestation. This drives him mad and drove me to boredom. Roaches crawling all over everything is not creepy or satisfying to me; it’s just dumb. That’s what this short story was: dumb. OVERVIEW: I found the middle three short stories to be very engaging and the first and last to be considerably less satisfying (with Creeping Up being almost intolerably awful while maybe drawing one grin). This anthology would have been considerably better in my opinion if it was limited to the middle three stories (Jordy, Tide and Crate) and reduced from 120 to 90 minutes. But I know some people (e.g., the occasional Amazon reviewer) rather enjoyed Father’s Day and Creeping, so I’ll just say the middle stories are what won me over and got me to buy this. In either case, this is a classic anthology from the days before anthologies were the “in” thing. You should probably watch it.

Amazing quality I remember last time how it used to look like back in the days but this upgrade actually looks perfect and I love it😁.

I remember watching this for the first time with my dad during halloween on one of those Horror marathons that used to be on BBC2. I was waiting to see this after seeing a clip of it on the same channel. Good to see that i was not disappointed with the feature presentation. Five great and terrifying stories of the Macabre by two of the best horror masters Stephen king and George A. Romero. I suppose you could say Six stories if you count the wraparound story of Billy (the boy reading the comic) and his Dad. The effects may be old school but i value them much more than most of the CGI effects they have nowadays. Creepshow stills scares me to this day. John Harrison (who later scored the music of Day of the Dead) devises a brilliantly creepy and chilling soundtrack which pretty much put you in the mood for whats to come, Pure unsettling horror. When i first heard the theme at the start of the movie, it send shivers down my spine and still does nowadays whenever i watch it. This was the film that got me into all the other anthropology horrors like Asylum, from Beyond the grave, Vault of horror, Tales from the crypt, Dr terrors house of horrors and many more. Now finally Creepshow gets the treatment it deserves and a forgotten classic is re-remembered for what it was, spine chilling horror. It's just too bad that the other sequels (yes i'm including Creepshow 3) weren't directed by George (he was only the scriptwriter for the second one) and again have 5 great horrifying stories (the second one only has three. Only three??? Why couldn't they have added two more?) cause that would have made it an unforgettable trilogy of the horror comic-style franchise. If you enjoy being scared, you're in for the fright of your life.

Se ve espectacular, mejor que nunca, es increíble la calidad de imagen. Trae Slipcover de colección y doble portada intercambiable. Llegó rápido y en perfectas condiciones, el único inconveniente es que solo trae subtitulos en inglés.

Un joli coffret collector avec manuel explicatif qui nous permet de revoir ce chef d'œuvre composé de 3 histoires. Petite préférence pour les 2 derniers.. pour ma part le 1er volume de creepshow reste indétrônable mais le 2eme se laisse regarder sans problème

Prachtige 4k restauratie...shout factory staat bekend om zijn beeld en geluids kwaliteit...denk er wel aan dat de 4k disk all region is en de blu-ray disk region A is,dus niet compatibel met EU blu-ray players...geen NL. ondertiteling...anders een prachtig versie van de film...

Un grand classique de mon enfance!!! J’ai 50 ans et ce film je l’ai vu pour la première fois j’avais 12 ans. Je regarde encore aujourd’hui et je le savoure encore autant…
