Streisand's 1987 third live album was recorded at a benefit concert at her Malibu, California home on September 6, 1986. At the time it was her first full-length concert in twenty years. Barry Gibb appears on a duet of "Guilt". All proceeds from the sale of the album went to her non-profit Streisand Foundation which supports charitable organizations committed to antinuclear activities & the preservation of the environment, civil liberties & human rights. She excels live in my view BUT some are weighted towards cabaret and show tunes which aren't really my bag. This CD isn't so much like that and has some of her non show tunes on it. And crucially for me a duet with Barry Gibb of Guilty and What Kind Of Fool from my fave Streisand album Guilty which I think is her masterpiece and not only one of my faves of her music but overall. I do wish she would cut the talking down between songs, its not that bad on this album fortunately, I find this a problem with some live albums especially when its excessive talking like with Sinatra At The Sands. Yet in contrast I like the talking on some like The VH1 Storytellers live album with Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, their banter between songs adds to the album in their case. REVIEW OF CD ONE VOICE (SUPER)
I was so glad i found this CD ONE VOICE by Barbra Streisand, its the great standard we all expect from her. Like the title only one voice can sing the songs on CD eg. I have owned many, many, Barbra Streisand albums since she first came on the scene back in the 60's. If you are a fan, you know there was about two decades she did not perform live. This CD is her return to the stage. A stage in her own back yard with a hand picked audience. If you are a fan, you know she is a perfectionist and this album shows it!! Of all the albums I haver ever owned, this is far my most favorite album. With her hand on all areas of concert preparation, it is truly a sound masterpiece and she never sounded better!! You can tell she is totally relaxed in her own enviroment surrounded by her friends. Her voice is a dream. Her duets with Barry Gibb are perfection. It is just a fantastic experience. You will feel like you are there. It is too bad it is so hard to find the DVD of this concert. If you love this album-because you will-go to her offical WEB site and ask her to get the DVD reissued. I am sure you are going to want it as much as I do.
