Great Power, Specs, sounds and price... a unicorn!!!!
I honestly couldn't be happier with this thing. I bought the Onkyo RZ70 to be the main "processor" for my setup, and it’s been rock solid. If you’re debating between this and those super expensive separates/processors, just save the cash and grab this. Audioholics measured it recently and said it had the best test results they've ever seen in this price class, which makes me feel pretty good about the purchase. Zero HDMI Headaches (Finally): This is usually where receivers annoy me, but the RZ70 nails it. My previous Denon was a total nightmare with HDMI handshakes and black screens, but I haven't had a single issue with this Onkyo. I run my PC through it to the TV, and it passes 4K at 120Hz without any flickering or handshake issues. My PS5 VRR works instantly too. Zero problems with my Apple TV and with any Atmos content. It has Chromecast, Spotify, Sonos...literally anything you can throw at a receiver it will accept...and everything just feels buttery smooth. The Audio Setup (It’s a beast): I’m actually using the RCA pre-outs to feed a pair of Hypex Nilai monoblocks for my front Revel F36 towers, while the Onkyo handles the rest (KEF Q250c center, Q150 rears, and Pioneer Atmos modules). The integration is seamless. It has two independent 12V triggers, so my external amps wake up automatically when I turn the receiver on—no weird workarounds needed. Note that I have tried the internal amps for the Revels and they drive with authority! One massive surprise was the internal DAC. I A/B tested it against my Eversolo DMP-A8 (which is a dedicated high-end streamer), and I could barely hear a difference. It’s super clean and detailed. Living with it: I use Roon for music, and the RZ70 pops up immediately as a Roon Ready endpoint. It switches from "Movie mode" to "Hi-Res Music" instantly without glitches. Also, the Web Setup is a lifesaver. Instead of dealing with clunky on-screen menus with the remote, I just opened my laptop browser to rename inputs and tweak settings. Way faster. Dirac Live was also great—it tightened up my dual SVS 3000 Micro subs so the bass is punchy instead of just booming all over the room. The "Meh" Stuff: It’s not perfect. The remote feels kinda cheap and plasticky for a flagship unit, though it works fine. And heads up—this thing is HUGE and heavy. Make sure your shelf is deep enough because it barely fits on mine. But I guess that’s the price you pay for the power. Verdict: Whether you use the internal amps (which are massive) or use it as a pre-amp like I do, it handles everything, it is built like a tank and it is an absolute bargain for the price (you will be looking at $4k at competition, did a TON of research before purchasing) .100% recommended, pull the trigger, you will not regret

Onkyo rz-70 powerhouse
Reference-Grade Powerhouse – Onkyo’s Best Yet! The Onkyo TX-RZ70 is, without question, one of the most impressive AV receivers I’ve ever owned. It’s powerful, flexible, future-proof, and built to anchor a true reference-level home theater or two-channel system. Onkyo absolutely nailed it with this flagship. Setup was a breeze thanks to the intuitive GUI and updated Dirac Live support (including Bass Control!). Once dialed in, the RZ70 brought my Klipsch RF-7 III-based 7.2.4 Atmos system to life with incredible dynamics, pinpoint imaging, and thunderous bass control. It handles action movies like Top Gun: Maverick and Fury with chest-pounding impact, but also excels with music—especially paired with quality DACs and amps. The sound signature is clean, powerful, and dynamic, with an effortless sense of scale. It feeds my Parasound amps (A21+, A31, A52+) beautifully through its high-quality pre-outs. Dialogue clarity, Atmos height effects, and surround envelopment are all dialed in with surgical precision. Connectivity is top-notch with HDMI 2.1 across all inputs, support for 8K, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and every major audio format including Auro-3D and IMAX Enhanced. Add to that Roon Ready status, dual sub outputs, and ESS Sabre DACs onboard, and you have an AVR that checks all the boxes for enthusiasts and audiophiles alike. Build quality is solid, ventilation is well-designed, and the unit has been rock-stable since day one. No HDMI handshake issues, no software glitches, just pure performance. If you're building a serious theater or high-end audio rig and want flagship features without crossing into the $5K+ processor territory, the Onkyo RZ70 is an absolute steal at its price point. I couldn’t be happier with it—this AVR is the real deal.

Outstanding amp
Outstanding amp. Easy setup, and the Dirac software does a brilliant job of room / speaker correction. Amazingly powerful, giving punch where my older Denon was just meh. Good remote and settings adjustments. Works very will with my TV via eARC. Did I say this unit has power!? The only quibble is the control of Zone2. Not very well thought out (Denon does it better). No numerical volume representation, so control is by ear only. Also, to control it, you've got to push (and hold) the Zone2 button each time you want to adjust the sound (it's actually active for only 8 seconds, then reverts to mains). But this is minor. I'm just thrilled by 99% of what this amp can do. Great connectivity options. Does everything I need, and does it very well. First rate sound quality. Highest recommendations.

Feature‑packed receiver with excellent performance, but very large in size
The TX‑RZ70 delivers strong power, clean sound, and excellent room correction right out of the box. Dirac Live works extremely well, and the overall audio performance is impressive for both movies and music. The interface is straightforward, and the feature set is one of the most complete in this class. The only drawback for me is the physical size — this receiver is exceptionally large and requires a bigger‑than‑average cabinet or stand to fit comfortably. If you have the space, it’s a powerful and highly capable unit.

Failed twice
I was drown to the specs and rave reviews but can honestly say it has been a disaster. 1st one had a catastrophic failure with error codes immediately upon setting up, called Onkyo and was referred back to my retailer for a return/exchange. Was impressed with the 2nd receiver- sounded great, set up 3 zones and loved the ap remote to control it from different rooms. Enjoyed it for all of about 2 weeks, and it all came to an end when 10 minutes into a movie it turned off, upon re-powering up the screen displayed "Requires Ventilation" and shut down. it was not hot, but I finished the movie in another room and went back to find it still had the same issue. Thank goodness it happened inside 30 day return window where i could get a refundfrom amazon... Needless to say I am done with onkyo.

Best AVR for the money.
At $2,300, this is easily the best AVR for under $4,000 on the market. It has great sound quality, Dirac included, is rated at 140 watts per channel, but has been professionally tested at 170 watts per channel. I blast mine all the time and it does not get hot. This is my fifth Onyko receiver and the best one yet!

Love that it has an HDMI port on the front and tone control
This receiver is replacing the decade old Yamaha which did not allow for 4k video pass thru. So far I have been blown away by its performance and features. Aprreciate that it has tone control for treble and bass. Love that it has an HDMI port on the front. Has IMAX certification and automatically turns on and off when I power the Apple TV 4K unit. Easy plug and play with easy to navigate menu. I really wanted another Yamaha but it did not have the IMAX cert and cost a lot more. Also considered the Denon at similar price point but it did not have the HMDI or tone control, which was a must for me.

2nd TIME'S A CHARM
RECEIVER 2 - 5 star This is the second "Like New" RZ70 I ordered. I had much better results with this unit. Scroll down below for my experience on receiver one. I would have rated this a 5 star if it hadn't been for that initial experience on the first RZ70 I bought. Compared to the first unit with "Like New" condition, this was in much better shape. It didn't have all of the issues with the condition of the packaging, the accessories, software glitches, and the receiver chassis itself. Once powered up, I connected it to my network, went right to the firmware update and had no issues whatsoever getting the new software to not only download, but install. The first receiver I received was a complete disaster in regard to getting the firmware to even download, let alone install. I then went to the Miscellaneous settings and put it into "preamp mode" for all channels. I have external Emotiva amps for all 11 channels. This allows the Onkyo to bypass all internal amplification, reduces current draw to the receiver, and increases voltage output for all channels (4V) to the external amps. In this mode, it basically does nothing but process the digital or analog audio/video inputs being fed to the receiver. Does this unit need external amplification? In most cases, no, but I do have a large room and want to maximize dynamics, detail, and impact. Next step was speaker configuration, basically setting up how the speakers in the room are positioned (front, center, front high, top middle ceiling, surrounds, and surround rear - 7.1.4). I also set all crossovers to 80 hz with the exception of the Atmos speakers at 120 hz. I downloaded the Onkyo controller app and went to Dirac setup. I positioned the microphone as instructed in location one (used a cheap camera tripod to hold the mic). Once I started, it did take several times to get the software to work without glitching. I did the full setup with 9 locations. It is rather finicky with reflective surfaces like drywall which will impact results depending on where mic placement is. It was sensitive to volume at some locations and would kick me out and force me to adjust volume control on certain channels. If it's too loud, it will stop calibrating. Ultimately, once I got through all nine channels without issue, it then took a few for all of the algorithms from calibration to be downloaded to the receiver. Even after calibration, I did use a handheld soundmeter to slightly tweak all channels to 75 db at my center seat location. Having had several Denon receivers in the past with Audyssey, this was far more accurate, especially for speaker levels. Now with everything set up and my audio video sources connected, I then went to each source to set up default sound formats. Unlike my first RZ70, I had absolutely no issues with HDMI switching, audio, or the onscreen display showing on the TV. All sources worked flawlessly. At this point, if you go to YouTube or any other research you do on the sound quality of the receiver, I can verify the unit sounds fantastic. I did notice in my first movie watching how spatial and atmospheric surround sound was, especially in Atmos. The previous receivers I had hooked up were an Onkyo RZ50, a Denon 6700, and 6200 before that. The RZ70 definitely sounded more dynamic and airy with small subtle details being more present. I also noticed the soundfield expanding to areas of the room with far more realism than the other receivers were doing. It just made the room sound larger in all directions. The RZ50 and Denon 6700 are great AV receivers, but the RZ70 just gives that extra level of realism, depth, and articulation I was looking for. Music from my turntable sounded fantastic. I did use a Schitt Mani 2 as a preamp bypassing the phono input on the receiver. Not saying the phono preamp input on the Onkyo was bad, I just wanted more control, detail, depth, and instrument separation, which if you read reviews about the Mani 2, it's exactly what you get. CDs sounded great, streaming apps as well. Any source I put through the receiver was outstanding. If you do your research, this model is universally praised on all fronts. I can verify that everything I was looking for was met with even better results than I was expecting. It's easy to use (FAR better than the train wreck user interface on Yamaha receivers), is well built, and in my opinion, worth the extra $$ over the RZ50, especially pricing you get on "Lke New" from an authorized Onkyo dealer. Even though I'm using external amplifiers, I can verify that the internal amplifier, transformer, and capacitors are far more robust than any other receiver in its price range. It's the biggest transformer I've seen in any AV receiver under 4 grand. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase and would highly recommend. ________________________________________________ RECEIVER 1 First off, this goes to the "EE" seller for stating this unit as being in "Mint" condition which it wasn't. All plastic film on the front panel display was removed. Bags containing accessories were ripped open. Styrofoam packaging was cracked not only on the bottom but top as well. Fingerprints all over the unit, batteries still in the remote, the plastic bag sealing the unit was completely missing. I order "Like New" products frequently on Amazon and this was the worst product condition I've received. At best it should have been "Used - Good". Next is for Onkyo and the vendor. The unit demands a firmware update upon powering up. I went to the setup menu and turned off all HDMI settings as instructed, connected the unit to my Wi-Fi network, then went to the miscellaneous setting and selected the firmware update option. First try I received: 3-20 Error! exactly when "Updating 11%" notice displayed on the front of the unit. You can see the error in the attached image to the review. I then factory reset the Onkyo. I also reset my entire network. Ran the firmware update again and received: 3-20 Error! After getting that several more times I disconnected Wi-Fi and connected the Onkyo directly from ethernet to my network. I then ran the firmware update a fifth time and at exactly 11% every time it stopped with: 3-20 Error! After factory resetting the Onkyo multiple times, resetting my network multiple times, using wi-fi, using ethernet, the unit is defective. Could I have used the USB function? Yep, but why would I be the one going through all the effort to do so. The product should not require a work around to do a simple firmware update, just like a phone, computer, tablet, Xbox, PS5, whatever. Especially for an original MSRP of $2800. After all of that, I took it to my in-laws to connect it to their Network using Wi-Fi and ethernet and ended up with the same exact error multiple times. If Electronics Expo had actually done quality control checks before putting this for sale as Like New - Mint Condition, they would have known this issue from the start. Even bypassing the entire firmware update, turning the HDMI settings back on to get the on-screen display, the HDMI board itself isn't functioning either. The previous Onkyo RZ50 that I disconnected from the same network and cables worked flawlessly. The Denon 6700 I had connected to the same exact cables and network before that worked flawlessly. I've been doing home theater installs for the last two and a half decades. I've installed over 80 home theaters and never had the issues I've had with this one unit refusing to get the update it demands. The HDMI board being bad? That's an age-old story that Onkyo apparently still has trouble with. I've read the issues on some RZ70 units having the HDMI board problems. I figured it would be a very low percentage of that happening to the unit I received. I was wrong.

Vale super a pena.
