Will i need to re-setup all my smart devices or can I setup the ssid and password the same as what i had before

It depends very much on your existing routers settings and security features. You can easily substitute your existing SSID and password, you would however need to make sure your authentication method (i.e. WEP2) matches the setting on the new router. Best thing to do would be to take screenshots of all the settings pages of your routers control panel and manually copy them across to the new one. If setup correctly, you should be able to swap out your router without having to reconnect devices. However, this router does support guest networking for smart devices which I would recommend using for security reasons if you do have the time to change them over at a later stage

If i set by virgin media hub 3.0 to modem only and connect this router to it, can i set the router to change my dns settings to 1.1.1.1 & 8.8.8.8?

Yes but DNS has not effect on WiFi strength, DNS is the internet phone book.

Anyone used the ax86 as a main router and using older ac as mesh with rmerlin firmware? how does it run. thank you

Yeah I have been running that exact setup for a while now, been great, although I do recommend connecting the two via a ethernet cable, at least a cat 5e. I ran it while paired by wireless connection and then cabled. Cabled is noticeably better.

Has anyone tried this with BT Fibre 900 and had any issues with setup or performance?

Hi, I'm using it on BT fibre 150, no issues what so ever, much better than the BT's own router. I can't see why it will not work with BT 900, it's well capable of handling that.
