In a home studio environment, the Amaran 200x S can be used in a variety of ways. For example, it can be used as a key light to provide bright, direct lighting on your subject, or as a fill light to soften shadows and provide more even lighting. The most versatile light that I use daily!
I can't say enough about this light! Super useful light that I use daily. The power output is insane, but the best part is there are very minimal wires to worry about. You just have one power adapter and one cable that goes directly into the light. I have the 120D and the 300D as well and this is def more powerful than the 120D - will probably permanently replace the 120D. Using this with Sidus Link and I can control this plus my hair light very easily and can match. At F 3.5 I'm only at about 24% power and that's perfectly exposed. I haven't really tried to open the aperture up as I mostly shoot F 3.5 for at home videos I need to record. As you can see using the Manfrotto stand, I don't even need a sandbag for it to be stable. Main things: 1. Super Light 2. Wide range of color temp from 2700k to 6500k and I can use the Sidus link app to match, if needed. 3. Minimal wires to worry about. 4. The original foam that comes with the box is very sturdy. I purchased a Fomito bag that I put it in and very easy to remove and store. Look up " Amaran 200x case" and should come up. 5. VERY powerful! Haven't even been able to push to 100% yet! 6. Can use all the other aputure attachments I already have and is a bowens mount. 7. Very easy to use. Definitely love this product! May purchase a second one very soon!

Compact and easy to use!! Everyday Use.
This light is exactly what I needed! It's very light and easy to setup. I sometimes record tiktok videos and this light outputs way more power than I need. The functions are very easy to use. You can go from 2700K to 6500K with just a few button pushes. It's also easy to match the colors in the surrounding light with the sidus app. Speaking of Sidus Link app, I'm also able to open the app and adjust the light while I'm looking at the camera monitor which is very helpful! Setting up usually will take me at most like 2 mins and same thing with breaking it down. It's very convenient that the box is also the same shape and I can easily put everything back and store away in my closet. With the current light stand I'm using, I don't even need to put a sandbag to hold it down. You can quickly change the power output but just pressing down the power button and it'll quickly adjust the power and that's the same with the color temp button, as seen in video. Super helpful! Overall, would definitely recommend!

Best and brightest affordable monolight on the market, now with improved accuracy
First thing I wanted to know was, what's new about the 200x S compared to their 200x without the -S? Aputure explains that you get "an 18.6% increase in SSI from its predecessor," which is a rating of color accuracy and a fuller metric than the CRI we most often see on cheaper products. The upgraded "dual-blue LED chipset" makes the light that it produces closer to reality than usual for LED lights, compared to authentic daylight (outdoor) or tungsten (traditional indoor) color sources. In the real world, this mainly translates into more believable skin tones, instead of getting creepy shades of greens, oranges and blues. One additional feature of the new LED chipset is slightly higher luminance (brightness) at the lower (indoor) color temperature compared to the prior 200x without the -S, while actually drawing a little less power too. 200 watts is indeed a lot of power (that's what the 200x stands for -- you can get a 100x S for a hundred bucks less, if you're pinching pennies, though double the brightness latitude at that same size seems worth it to me, since you can always dial down the brightness). So unless you want to haul around an unwieldy gigantic battery module, you're going to need an AC wall outlet. Compared to most other monolights, I really like how Aputure designed a bright yellow, solid connector interface angled to where you're reaching up, adjacent to a similarly angled power toggle. I also like how the external power supply includes a metallic loop that you can use to sling onto the stand, in case cables don't fully reach the ground, etc. On the back panel display, it couldn't be simpler: you get the intensity percentage, and the color temperature in Kelvin, with a Bluetooth logo indicating connection to Aputure's free Sidius Link app that you can download for free to Android or iOS smartphones/tablets. Another nice touch is the way that the included power cord that runs from the brick transformer, to an AC wall outlet, locks in with a red tab/switch (just like the power cord into the light locks into its yellow receptacle), ensuring that nothing yanks loose during a shoot. Unfortunately, Aputure does not include any bag to carry these several accessories, nor do they sell one or recommend one, thus you're on your own finding something that carries the monolight, power supply, and detached Bowens-mount "Hyper Reflector" which kicks up the output from 6400 lux to 45,400 lux. I recommend pairing this with their incredibly easy to set up Lantern diffuser, or for more directed diffusion, their Mini Light Dome II.

You will not be disappointed!
This is seriously one of the best bang for buck studio lights ever! I had the 200d before this, and it’s great. The only problem is, I can’t change the color temperature. This 200xs solves that problem, and still works just as great! I love how you can control it from the app, and how easy it is to use. It has a bowens mount, so there are many different accessories you can attach to this light. I used many different cheaper led lights, and they have to be at 100% to be as bright as this light at 10% power. Seriously, this light is so bright, it can light up my backyard in pitch black. Absolutely bright enough to use in daylight, which I use this on shoots all the time. I have no issues buying this again, and again. Buy this light, you will not regret it!

The Best Light I Have Ever Owned
I have been a full-time filmmaker for nearly 5 years now and have had experience with dozens of different lights. I have always loved the quality of Aputure lights but have always felt that they were more expensive than I would like to pay. The new Amaran line is an amazing value for the money. The build quality is very similar to the more expensive Aputure models and the quality of light is almost indistinguishable. The body of the light is made out of metal and feels very solid. The output of the light at 200 watts is amazing and is plenty of output for using as a powerful key light in almost every situation and the fact that you get bi-color output at 200 watts is a huge benefit. If you're looking for a reasonably priced high quality light that you can rely on, this the one! I would absolutely recommend it!

Fantastic light for content creators!
I'm using this light for one of my YouTube sets and love it! Works with all of my Bowens mount modifiers and has power to spare. I'll be buying a few more of these soon!

Powerful, Bright and produces a fantastic light for various shoots
Wow, Apurture makes the best lights for us videographers. Here's my quick overview of what I think so far. First, the plastic is fine; honestly, it feels super strong and robust. Comes with basic packaging, just use the same foam and throw it in a medium tote box for travel. The 200 series should be perfect for indoor studio work and outdoor shoots as it should be enough to light up the talent. When adding a softbox it tilts 90 degrees which is perfect as it puts less stress on the yolk. The plug adapter has a ring loop which is a nice touch. When you pair this with multiple lights it makes the whole system a killer match. Use the sidus link app and watch the magic happen. That's why I switched to this system, I know I can control all my other Aputure lights with my phone. Overall I haven't tested the light in rigorous situations but I know I can trust the Aputure name brand and not some knockoff light.

A Pretty Good Budget Light Benefitting From Remote Sidus Link App Control
After seeing many favourable reviews, I thought I'd try one on 'deal'. It was pretty good, perhaps a little better than I had expected, so I went on to buy another two similar units - so a solid recommendation from me.... BUT it all depends upon your own needs, expectations and budget. It won't suit everyone! Many pros/cons, but overall solid value for those with modest (beginner) lighting needs. Good value if you don't end up paying 'too much' for it (you will know what what is right for your budget). I'll try to summarise +/- .... Pros: a) Relatively small, lightweight, compact - with a durable (so far) 'plastic' body b) Reasonable bright, good output for a 200W COB light - brighter than some other peer competitors c) Bi-colour and easy to adjust colour temp circa 2700-6500+ Kelvin d) Subjectively pretty good, consistent light - and seemingly accurate colour temp(s) e) Benefits from "Sidus Link App" control - possibly best current app (but not full DMS control) f) Bowen's mount - able to take a wide range of standard/light modifiers (subject to limited weight) g) Reinforced metal parts for attaching to light spigot/stand etc - mine are still OK 6+ months later h) Fan noise is reasonably quiet, usable and power 'brick' modest in size i) Can run off an Apurture 'power station' 2 V-mounts (but that's an expensive 'extra') which I bought/like k) it's from Apurture - so an entry into their lighting eco system (IMO a good 'budget' quality light) l) As an overall package - it offers pretty fair value (depending on your buying price / competitor prices) and its small form factor makes it quick and easy to deploy, when you just have modest lighting needs m) Best suited to (serious) amateur user/owner needs, but could be utilised in small, paying (quasi professional) lighting sets, augmenting other lights, if used carefully and within it's obvious (budget) limitations Cons: n) It's not pro-grade/industrial quality, so won't survive any heavy 'kicking' but OK if treated 'reasonably' o) It's not going to be bright enough for serious lighting needs: using solo as booklight or in outdoor/sun p) Supplied reflector has uneven hot-spot, otherwise good - but will support a more 'even' reflector dish q) Bowen mount prob. won't take a big/heavy softbox modifier (but not bright enough to use either) r) It's not waterproof - but then nothing in this price class is either s) Doesn't come with a transit case - necessitating using it's shipping box or finding a separate case/bag Overall, taking everything into consideration, a pretty good quality 'starter' light, suited to careful use. It was better (brighter and more accurate colour) than I expected, represents fair value for money IMO and could be a good entry into the excellent Apurture system, benefitting from SidusLink control. Build quality was also much better than I had expected from a 'plastic' light housing. But clearly not all 'plastics' are equal. Clearly your needs may differ, so only you can judge if it might suit you too.
