very important for cyclists for their safety in traffic
The MEILAN X5 is a modern rear light designed for cyclists who want increased safety and visibility. It includes wireless turn signals, an automatic braking sensor, bright LED lights, and a handlebar-mounted remote control. Users highlight the highly visible signals, which are very eye-catching on the road.

First impressions
Just got these and went on 2 rides so far, will update this review for long term, but for now: Electronics: everything works as advertised. no issue with the battery, the range of the remote is fine, the lights are bright and attention grabbing (a good thing on the road), the lasers can be seen during day time but esp bright after dark. the auto brake light works, sensitivity is so-so but on any fast stops it def. will trigger. Hardware: this is where I have to deduct one star -- everything works but everything is flimsy. the bike light is entirely plastic, what I thought were heat sinks down below are just artistic expressions. the mounting kits (it has 2, one connects to your seat post, the other directly to the seat stays) are all THIN plastics, and all the supplied screws are PHILIPS. For something that's load bearing, small, and hard to reach, this company decided to use Philips screws over the bike standard hex bolts, which means not only it's hard to reach, easy to strip, it also needs a nut on the other side that's even smaller and even easier to lose. The main light clips onto the mounting bracket via a small locking tab that's no thicker than 1mm -- consider this light has only a 2000 mAh battery capacity, and no power level indicators, you'll have to charge it fairly often (I'm guessing once a week at a minimum -- I ride often), and stress that 1mm piece of plastic repeatedly. Sure it'll be fine the first week, but I have my doubts on the longevity of the whole set up. It's a great looking light, and from a distance this looks like a grade A product. But upon closer inspection you will know you got what you paid for. for 30 some odd bucks it's a sophisticated bit of kit, only let down by cost saving (poor) decisions, and Chinese "ingenuity". It'll work for now, but I'll come back in a year WHEN this thing fails.

Good design, though light pattern is gimmicky
Just installed it today on my road bike and took two trips during the day and night. In the first ride, i couldn't get ANY light to work and I didn't have time to read the manual. Still haven't read it, but I realized that none of the lights work during the day without blocking the sensor! This is a bit surprising. A tape solved the problem, but I wish there was a way to override the sensor. I also wish there is a turn signal without the red lights moving slowly in the direction of the blink. It may be confusing as it is not a standard blinking pattern. I installed the button in the middle on my road bike. It is not easy to reach in a hurry. It works for well planned turns. There is no good place for it close to the brake levers. I tried the stop, and the light changes pattern. Also not a standard pattern, it just goes crazy blinking red and yellow. I don't understand why the most obvious mode is not supported: blinking or reduced led normally. Strong solid red upon stopping. Strong blinking on one side only when turning. The unit is a bit wobbly because of the removable sliding connection. Hopefully it will last. Still inclined to give a full rating, because it seems to do the job well at a good price in a presentable package, with a wireless remote.

Great tail light for the price.
Bought this for my Sur Ron since I didn't want to mess with the wiring to put a tail light on there so this was the perfect solution. The turn signals aren't too visible so I wouldn't rely on them but the tail light itself and the lasers that are projected onto the ground are super bright and look pretty cool. The remote to control the lights are easy to mount onto the bars but the rubber band isn't tight or grippy enough. The remote moves around every time you press a button so I don't even bother trying to use the signals. I mainly got it for the tail light since the stock light that came on the Sur Ron isn't too bright. I feel 100x's more visible to cars with this tail light. I've only had it for a month and so far so good. I've used it for 6 hours straight and the battery hasn't died. As for the mounting options, it's really going to depend on your bike. I got lucky because I was able to clamp this onto the stock license plate mount on my Sur Ron. All in all, not a bad purchase. Only time will tell how long these lights will hold up. If all goes well, I'll be buying more for my other bikes and maybe even my motorcycle.

I've had better bike lights.
Not very bright, battery doesn't last that long. It's, uh. A bit small for how much I paid for it. Not everyone can see it, and from a bypasser's point view, no one knows where I'm turning. Was a bit of a hassle to assemble onto my bike and it's not as simple as moving a few screws with your hands to remove it. Which, in times more often than not, can be a hassle if you're on the go and don't have a multitool on your person.

Works great, bright, easy to use
This was a great find. Used it on a Tuttio. Installed by removing the seat and drilling two holes in the subframe crossbar. The mount that is included for this light bolted right in very cleanly. Easy to charge without removing off bike.

Junk! Do not buy.
I was really stoked when this item arrived. I was pleased that this light came with a mount that attached to the saddle rails as opposed to the seat post as I have a detachable splash guard which attaches to my seat post and having 2 items on the seat post was a bit of a squeeze. I was also stoked about the wireless remote as I sometimes would begin my ride and forget to turn on my rear light and I hated unclipping from my pedals and stopping to turn my light on. With this if I forgot I could just use the remote. So here's my issue with this light. You initiate a long press of the single button on the light to power it on. It comes on in solid mode. Press the button once again and the light enters flashing mode which is what I use. The first day I used this I got it mounted to my saddle. I had charged it the night before. I power up the light and put it into flashing mode. Its nice and bright and looks good. I run through all the turn signal functions and all works as it should. I run in the house to grab my coat and helmet. When I come back out the light is in solid mode again. I press the button and it goes back into flashing mode. I head off on my ride which lasts an hour and a half. When I get off my bike the light is in solid mode again. At this point I'm beginning to have a slight concern but don't think it's anything serious. On my next ride which lasts just over 2 hour the situation was similar. I put the light into flashing mode and then go inside to get ready to ride which takes about 10 minutes. When I came out to ride the light is in solid mode again. This the when I get home the light is off completely. Not ready to give up I bring the light in and charge it overnight. I go on a 2 and a half hour ride the following morning and when I get home the light is completely off again. I have now reached my conclusion. This light is simply a piece of junk. I cannot recommend that anyone purchase this.

the remote is not working after 2 days.
The remote stopped working after 2 days of use. so now the very purpose of having a tail light cum signal light is defeated.

Good Quality
Using it for couple of months. Its bit expensive but if you are looking for decent quality, life and charge, this is the best option available. Once charged, it works for aprox. 3 to 4 of my bicycle trips of 45 min. each trip. The remote works well as well as the laser function which is pretty cool.
