How many are in a package?

I think there was one in each package. Though it was packaged perfectly, and was not broken, I ordered an extra just in case.

This is going to sound a little dumb, but how do they break? What's the clean up on the shards like?

We used them for props in a show. They were easy to clean up and looked real. They were exactly what we needed. I don't recall any big shards left behind.

can you eat the sugar glass

You can eat whatever you want. Some kids ate tide pods. It killed them, but they ate them.

I think I know the answer, but I'm gonna ask anyway: Are these breakaway props single-use item? Or can they be re-used?

Single use only but very effective.
