someone brought this to me on a first date and I was forever changed
a man brought this book to me on a first date (POINTS). it's that type of poetry that is so good you're saying "oh could've written that," and "so jealous I do not have the amazing mind to write that." highly recommend. btw for my date, we lived in different cities and it didn't work out and I gave the book away which was a huge mistake because this book is complete genius and I want that totem. but it's cool I bought a new one.

Khadijah Queen is everything. Thought provoking and witty and poignant and sad and a testament to moving through the world as a woman. Can't recommend enough.

Marvelous
Brilliant writing; feels very current and fresh. It hits on topics like beauty and confidence and relationships with a really fine, and at times sad touch.

This Ain't That... It's More.
At a glance, Queen's collection "I'm So Fine" is spilled tea--quick vignettes about meeting famous men with a backdrop of 80's and 90's pop culture. I was titillated with the tales, laughing and side-eyeing through familiar names and places. Other times, I sat stunned. Stunned by how the narratives captured the often-times violent boldness of others and the long-suffering way in which we, as women, have to navigate each and every encounter in bodies that are often regarded as separate from our very real hearts and minds. Every page felt like a secret, a behind-the-scenes pass. The elevated narratives in this collection illustrates Queen's dedication to authenticity, for telling each story as full as possible--even the smallest moments have a heft to them that demands exploration into private as public and personal as political as it relates to themes of toxic masculinity, safety, sexuality, but even more so, Queen asks us, by sharing these narratives, to explore our hearts, our encounters, and the stories we tell ourselves about both.

Vivid voice, images, and tone...and then more
These are wonderful pieces right from the start, Queen's ability to instantly bring forth such vivid voice, images, and tone. An effect built cumulatively though. More disturbing aspects already scattered throughout, a different kind of insight sharpened and intensified the more of the pieces I read. As that strengthened, the gravity increased and the ability to look as entertainment became more and more questionable, requiring me to think about increasingly uncomfortable questions on my side of the page. There's a great deal more going on than it appeared at first, leaving me with more to wrestle with than I expected once the book was closed. Some stuff is right out there, but there seems to be a great deal of subtlety at work as well. A lot to think about.

Excellent book!
Brilliant. Fun. Introspective. Tragic. Innovative. Witty. Real. Relatable.I loved this book. I read the entire thing cover to cover in one sitting. The stories completely absorb you and cause you to reflect on many life experiences that you may not have thought about in a long time. It is like reading letters from your best friend. I had so many emotions while reading this book. I enjoyed it immensely and highly recommend it.
