SAMSUNG 55-Inch Class Neo QLED 4K QN90C Series Neo Quantum HDR+, Dolby Atmos, Object Tracking Sound+, Anti-Glare, Gaming Hub, Q-Symphony, Smart TV with Alexa Built-in (QN55QN90C, 2023 Model)

After 12 years of faithful service, the decision was made to retire our Sony KDL-46HX850( 46-inch 1080p/240Hz) TV. Being one of the early "Smart" TV's on the market, it's limitations over the years became greater and greater, despite providing one of the best quality picture experiences ever, this includes, but is not limited to; Apps - It came with only a handful of Apps installed, like YouTube, Internet Browsing, and Netflix. Sadly this particular TV does not allow you to download or add additional ones. Nor have said Apps updated for at least 5 years. Netflix opens and works once in a while, usually requiring multiple restarts to load. Soundbar Issues - In late 2020 we added a 7.1 Nakamichi soundbar to our setup, after our previous Vizio 5.1 system we bought shortly after the TV died. However changing channels too quickly caused the station to lose sound, requiring a complete restart of the TV and Soundbar to allow sound to flow from the TV HDMI output. Tried using Roku, but again, it never worked properly on this particular TV. It was tested however in two different Samsung models; the 2014 UN65H7150 65-Inch 1080p 240Hz, and a 2019 QN82Q90RAFXZA 82-inch 4K 120Hz and it worked fine on those two TVs. So lets' get into the actual review for this model listed in the headline.... PROS: First Impressions: Lightweight; weighs less than my 46-inch, although it doesn't have the gorilla glass my old one had. Thinner by about 3-5mm overall. Remote; approx half the size of my 2019 Samsung model with dramatic improvements - C type rechargeable port versus requiring regular batteries, and even has a photo-electric eye to allow sunlight recharging system on the back of the remote. Disney+ and Amazon Prime single app buttons added. Picture Quality; outstanding for obvious reasons; 1080p vs 4K; meaning twice as many lines of resolution. HDR which means greater color space, allowing for a wider range of colors to be displayed. Despite being only half of the frequency response of my previous set (120Hz vs 240Hz), I wanted to be sure this would not be a "noticeable" issue, so I tested this thoroughly out using movies from my personal collection that had heavy/intense action sequences, no ghosting or pixelation was detected. Sound Quality; Have never used just the standard included back-facing speakers, so I cannot comment, always have used Soundbars. Set-Up; Again this is such a breeze now compared to just a few short years ago, logging into Apps with QR codes on your phones versus typing everything out. From the time I had the unit on the wall and first powered up, until all software updates and Apps were added and logged into was less than 30 minutes. Added 6 different Apps that are used on daily basis in our household. This is now the 2nd Samsung Q90 model I've purchased in the last 4 years, and I believe they are worth every single penny. But to be fair.....I must point out the negatives. CONS: Viewing Distance - to gain the full 4K experience at my current TV size (50") I need to be no further than 6ft away, which means I need to be sitting towards the middle/end of my bed. Whereas with my old unit, thew viewing distance was nearly double, meaning I could be lying down normally and not notice a drop in picture quality. 4K vs 1080p; when watching standard definition programming (480p), my old 1080p TV wins hands down, the additional upscaling done by 4K TV's makes to my eyes, the picture less enjoyable. It's just something I've gotten used to over the years. It stuck out heavily when I bought my first 4K, watching cable channels broadcasting in 480p resolution. Since most shows/movies cable and streaming services are at least HD quality, it still upscales, where again watching on a 1080p gave a better experience in my opinion. Sound; Let's be honest, all HDTV's have terrible or barely passing audio, since they are backward facing. You are better off buying an inexpensive forward facing soundbar versus using the included speakers only. If you can afford it (and have the space), buying a 5.1 or 7.1 soundbar system is the way to go. All three of my household TV's are Samsung models, although I have had quite a few Sony models in the past, reviews between brands when I am shopping for a replacement have been pushing me steadily towards Samsung. Two terrible experiences have permanently soured me ever buying LG ever again.

From our title, you may have caught on we kind of like this TV. Honestly, it’s the nicest TV we own, and we have a few between our home and our lake house. I think the price when bought on sale around the holidays is a great price proposition for excellent picture quality, features and size and the cost. Since we have a couple other Samsung TV’s, we were used to the basic remote and smart features. But this QN90C is so much faster, responsive and feature rich, that it is a clear winner. We have been pleased with our Q70B 65” TV at our cottage that we got 2 years ago, but this QN90C we got for home this past Christmas is so much better. We liked it so much that when our oldest adult son was also looking for a new TV around the holidays, we highly recommended this one. He ended up buying one too on sale and loves it. We mainly stream and watch YouTube TV. He mainly games. For both households, it’s a great option. Great picture quality! 4K as well as upscaling 1080p is excellent. When something is in 4K, it’s perfect! Has so many features. The smart-calibration system you can do with your phone is very worthwhile in dialing it in easily. It integrated very nicely with our in wall 5.2 speaker system and receiver via an optician cable. I could just go on and on about all the different features, as they are work as advertised. And although many people complain about the Tizen smart styles, we don’t mind it. Like others, I think I prefer the layout of it on our 2 year older Q70 vs the newer layout on this 2023 QN90. That is totally a layout preference on our part. That said, the range of free stations if you will, and the versatility of the layout are very nice. And, once you get used to the layout, its works well. Frankly the only drawback is that two years ago when we had to replace our cottage TV, I went with the Q70. I thought that was nice until I got this QN90, and now I wish I had spent a little more back in 2020 to get a Q90 back then at the other place. That said, I would wait for holiday sale pricing. The discount is worth waiting for.

I love the solar remote control. The TV show a brilliant picture.

I despise this tv, every day since I've set it up I want to pull my hair out, the user interface on this system is BEYOND horrible; I've been messing with this tv for months and it never gets easier to use. To start with the picture is stunning, I have no complaint with that, it has the deep blacks and contrast missing with less expensive 4k TVs, BUT using this nightmare is an exercise in frustration! To start with I have a full entertainment system, with a newer Onkyo 4k 7.1 channel home theater receiver; connected to the receiver via HDMI were a Blu-ray player, Roku box, multiple gaming systems and a pc, these used to connect to my older 4k tv via a hdmi out from the receiver, not anymore thanks to the engineers at Samsung. Because this tv just has to be "smart" (believe me it isn't), I can no longer hook my tv up this way, believe me I tried for days to make this work. The second you hit the power button on the bluray, the TV senses it and changes the input, there appears to be no way around this, I had to disconnect my entire system and reconnect to the tv hdmi inputs. This setup wouldn't be horrible if the Samsung interface wasn't the worst I've ever seen, first off Samsung forces you to plow though their abysmal home screen filled with crap I have zero interest in seeing every day but have no choice. Clearly Samsung's intent is not to make good tv's but instead forcing their customers into their crappy tv system (data mining anyone). It's awful and clearly deliberate, if you try to change inputs (something horribly inconvenient to do, the "smart" tv will kick you out at least 2-3 times and force you back to the ads they want you to see. I've had dozens of tv's and multiple iterations of home theater systems, I'm not new to this but connecting and using multiple sources with this TV is a continual frustration. If you just want a tv for your living room I guess this would be ok, but for a complicated home theater environment this is the absolute worst TV you could buy. Pass on this. Edited to add: Months later and 5lbs less hair, I knocked this TV down to a one star review, the interface on this TV is truly horrible by FAR the worst of any electronics I've ever used. As if that weren't bad enough the solar powered remote (how utter stupid is that) stopped charging and my tv says I need to charge it with a usb cable that is conveniently not provided. Buyer beware!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was bought for my parents and it is much loved. Samsung makes a great TV and electronics product in general. I have this same TV except a year older and series higher. So it was a safe bet to advise. The operating system is overseen by Samsung's Tiezen which is so smooth. But the picture is so lifelike and so is the sound we are always fascinated to see/hear the sound follow the voices go around the screen from character to character which makes it even more lifelike and of course, easier to follow. I use a soundbar with mine because I like a little more theater realism and voice clarity but with this one the voices are even clearer in this generation. The remote is the very nice but condensed solar remote without numbers, but you can call up the numbers with that symbol on the 123... button on the remote which then makes them appear on the screen. I'd just rather they were on the remote. It had adequate HDMI inputs and I don't use the old composite inputs anymore or analog or the fiber optic etc. So those I can't speak about, but in the past TVs from Samsung they've worked without flaw so I wouldn't have reason to believe that if it says they are included and they work. But the occasional bad one does squeak by. The TV looks great and is very thin. It also has a very thin bezel. When watching it the frame almost disappears. We mounted this on a mantle so fit wasn't a concern. But do measure your location ahead of time as ratios of screens change from time to time such as length to height of screen. Not all TVs are the same viewing ratio and will not fit the same location so please view those measurements. WiFi connection must be very fast as my parents have WiFi 6 and a pretty fast speed and they have no streaming issues as of yet. I also consider the value for dollar very high on this TV too. And it was on sale at the time I bought this for them too. But normal price is close to what I paid a year ago for my model. Good luck, thank you for reading, Erin V :-)

Great color and picture

I am a little biased as I really really like Samsung TVs. IMO they have the best looking picture you can get especially on their higher end models. I used and recently retired a Samsung QR50 which was the only 32" 4k TV which I was using as a computer monitor at 4k@60hz. I recently upgrade to a 38" 4k@144hz monitor but have been wanting to get this Samsung 43 since it can also do 4k@144hz. It is fantastic and works great. This is part of my dual monitor setup. I had a bit of trouble getting my graphics card to recognize it, but all I had to do was reinstall my graphics drivers for my 3070 TI card. This TV/monitor has a great viewing angle at least in my setup. I can easily switch and watch TV while I am working and the picture quality is amazing. I also like that this QN90C has picture by picture as well as PIP. So I can also have the TV or other video source in the corner or vice versa.I am still playing with all the settings and carious things you can do, but everything I have tried works great. The interface is a bit different than the Q50R and for some reason you have to have the INout signal PLus enabled in order to get the higher refresh rates, it only defaults to 4k@30 if you dont use the input signal plus which is automatic. Also, in my dual monitor setup and system congiguration, the 4k@120 does not work as well as the 4k@144 which is fine by me. The solar remote has to be turned over in order to charge, but it does also have a UCB-C charging port. I have not has any trouble with the remote and it works well. I have noit had the chance to p[lay with the Alexa capabilities yet since I already have a couple Alexa speakers in my office. Will update once I do. Overall - great build quality, great picture and great monitor. BTW, the 43 and 50 inch are the only ones that support the 144hz and I chose the 43 as that is about as large as I want for my computer setup.

We love great movies and television and want the best of those, where the directors and designers have done great work to look their best. The picture quality of the QN90C is absolutely fantastic, from resolution to HDR performance, color accuracy and contrast / brightness / gamma. It works well out of the box but a display as sophisticated and capable as this one begs for someone with a sharp eye and the knowledge of how color and light (ideally a photography type of background) to make the adjustments needed for it to work best in your room. Because our rooms are absolutely all over the place -- some quite dark, some are crazy bright, some have a single window on a shade, others an entire wall or two with no shades drawn when the television is in use. To really shine, it must be adjusted to fit your space, but when it is this television can show everything with no "black crush" or any of the other problems people mention about all tv's from time to time. We own a late model JVC projector (that we love) and an LG OLED tv (that we love), but these QLED sets from Samsung offer more features and performance, and for less money, than those other great displays. IMHO YMMV and I don't have a dog in the hunt, you should buy whatever you like. But these things are just plain eye-candy awesome.
