Beautiful art
Absolutely beautiful deck. I feel very connected to it. My only issue with it is the cards are a bit big for my hands so I have a hard time shuffleling.

Much more than a novelty deck
I collect tarot decks, some for their artwork/design, others for their philosophical insight, or historical importance, and some simply for novelty value.I like the work of H.P. Lovecraft and figured this Necronomicon tarot would be interesting as a novelty.Well, it is much more than that. This tarot has been redesigned to fit the Lovecraft universe, and the suggested layouts are very different from traditional tarot. The basic idea is that the major arcana represent things we fear (drawing from Lovecraft’s particular fears—of contagion, or technology, for example). The minor arcana (beakers, books, torches, and pentacles) represent how we confront, conquer, or give in to our fears. The suggested castings advise splitting the deck between major and minor and drawing them separately. It’s an interesting idea. The cards, book, and box are all high quality. The artwork fits the Lovecraft theme, but keep in mind he was a horror writer, the imagery is often VERY dark.Overall this is a very well-conceived and executed deck, surpassing my expectations.

Love the artwork
Bought because I thought the artwork on the cards looked cool. Item arrived quickly and in great condition. And the artwork did not disappoint.

Fun art and concept, but it's NOT a "daily" deck, do not buy if you're looking for a first deck
Let me start off by saying ALL of my decks have been gimmick decks. I do not own a standard Smith-Waite and I learned on a Mage The Ascension White Wolf deck, so I'm familiar with little deviations that come with these themed decks. This is my second Lovecraft themed deck. This is not the same as just having some twists here and there. Now for the review:I'm mostly pleased with the artwork and the interesting concepts (except major arcana card VI "Aliens"...what was up with that horrible art?).The problem I have with this deck is the execution. The concept for this deck is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than your standard tarot deck. A large portion of the major arcana cards deviate from the standard Smith-Waite template and focus SOLELY in interpretation of personal fears, thus this deck isn't to be used for general readings like other decks. However, the minor arcana adheres a little too well to the Smith-Waite template, leaving the concepts (and therefore use) hanging in the balance.I applaud the fresh idea of a fear focused deck considering the inspirational material, but the cards shouldn't be leaning on the traditional Smith-Waite template like they do. It makes it difficult to even interpret the way the guide books suggests with the sort of muddy. The card stock is decent, but the cards stick a lot.So to recap: I really do enjoy (most) of the art and the fresh concept, but the execution really hampers this being a "usable" deck. It's good for collectors to just enjoy and may be some fun for sleepovers. Definitely not a daily deck. I wouldn't recommend for anyone looking for their first deck at all.
