The first collection of vintage burlesque photographs compiled by Len Rothe published by Schiffer - a companion volume "The Bare Truth: Stars of Burlesque" is also available.Both books are similar in content; a series of black and white photographs taken in a professional photography studio for publicity purposes; most of the featured performers have about 3 - 4 photos in the set (the other volume has – in some cases – different photos taken from the same sessions).There's very little text other than to identify the star in each case; I should think the book will be of interest to those looking to create a costume or emulate the vintage style of the ladies featured.An interesting, nostalgic reference book.

As seen in the movie Burlesque!
This is an amazing collection of promo photos of burlesque performers of the 40's and 50's. It is also an excellent reference for costume designers as was seen in the new movie "Burlesque" when Christina Aquilera's character had this book in her hotel room scene, as she prepares for her new job. It is refreshing to see "real looking" women in this glamourous profession, much different than today's cloned Barbie dolls. Loaded with over 100 big photos, there is just enough historical information to keep it real. You will also want to get "The Bare Truth: Stars of Burlesque From the '40s and '50s" also by Len Rothe, to complete your collection.
