I’m an air conditioning engineer. Up until now my stash of drinks in my van had been cooled by a Peltier based cool box. This was very inefficient and wasn’t keeping up in warm weather. I’d never heard of or seen a 12v compressor based fridge before until I saw this one. I’ll be honest I did have my reservations as to wether it would be any good. But I decided after researching to go ahead and buy it, I opted for the 20 litre version. A few days later it landed on my doorstep. I’ve had it just over a week now and it’s amazing! It’s basically a mini chest freezer with an adjustable thermostat. A design that’s simple and effective. It’s very well made too and chills amazingly fast! I fill it with about 16 500ml bottles at ambient temperature every few days and it’s chilled them to 0c in just a few hours and that’s on the eco setting! What’s even better is the fact that it’s so efficient, meaning I can power it from the mains (using the supplied adapter) or from the van lighter socket without the socket getting crazily warm like with the cool box. Like any fridge it does produce water but this is easily wiped up once a week and no where near as much as the cool box. If you’re looking at buying a cool box then don’t, these only work at low ambient temperatures. Pay the little extra money and get one of these which works in all temperatures, you won’t regret it. It’s also a lot quieter than a cool box too. I had to put my ear right up to the vent to check it was actually running! I highly recommend this product. There are a few things I don’t like about it. The left hand handle isn’t insulated so can get a bit damp. Especially at low temperatures. I can’t see any way to access the compressor section if it ever needs to be repaired or if the fan and condenser needs to be cleaned. Other than that I’m very happy with it.

The Alpicool Y16 16L Car Fridge is an amazing product that delivers excellent performance for its size. It works perfectly to keep beverages and snacks cool during long drives, outdoor picnics, or camping trips. I’ve been using it for a long time with no issues, and its compact size makes it easy to fit into a car or RV without taking up too much space. The cooling is efficient and consistent, and it’s incredibly convenient for road trips and outdoor adventures. That said, it is a bit noisy at times, especially when the cooling kicks in, but it’s not overly disruptive. I do wish I had gone for a bigger size, as the 16L capacity, while sufficient for light use, can feel limiting for larger outings. Overall, it’s a reliable and high-quality car fridge that’s perfect for keeping your essentials cool on the go.

This little fridge/freezer was absolutely perfect for my needs - I really didn't want a huge box taking up half the car boot space and indeed this is really dinky and yet has enough space for the essentials. I just wanted to be able to safely keep some basic items like butter and cheese nice and cold during the hot summer weather. In particular, I specifically wanted a 'proper' fridge with a compressor and this ticks that box perfectly. It was a pleasant suprise to discover that this comes with a 240v adapter because I was only expecting a 12v cable for the car. This meant that I could easily pre-cool the fridge at home. I used it at Butlins for a week to keep some food cold and to chill a few 500ml drinks bottles and then I took it on a wild camping trip where I froze sausages, bacon etc down to about -14°C at home and then set it to 0°C in the car and added some refrigerated items such as cheese and butter... When camping I hooked it up to a car battery and set it to 4°C and the food slowly thawed whilst keeping it cold. 3 days later the battery was still running it just fine and I was able to transport a bit of left of food (including raw meat) all the way back home and into my main fridge with zero wastage. Given that this is also substantially cheaper then the other models I really cannot complain at all. If I were buying this again I'd consider the 12l version which looks like it's the same base with a taller lid, just so I could put 500ml bottles in it standing upright, but honestly this is brilliant and I'm really happy with it.

This is an excellent bit of kit and great value for what you get. It may not have a huge capacity, but it's compact, can be stowed away and the contents accessible without pulling it out. It's quite and draws very little out of our battery. Unlike our previous electric cool box, it keeps food at a proper temperature and is not noisily running all the time while flattening the battery. I wish I'd bought it much earlier.

Probably one of the best freezer boxes for camping you can buy. It works really really well and keeps the temperature down even after being turned off. My only gripe is I wish it was slightly bigger inside.

Can't recommend this highly enough. Took it on a week camping and in a red hot tent (29 degrees outside, 33 inside). We had an electric hookup, so I can't vouch for the 12v performance. Nevertheless, some advice: 1. Switch it on two days before travelling, put in a couple of bottles (in our case a couple of bottles of scrumypy) and set to -2. 2. We travelled for 5 hours in the car without plugging it into the battery. The cold cider kept the whole thing cool 3. Keep it out of the sun. We had a covered porch on our tent. Even in the recent hot weather, the fridge still kept everything icy cold. 4. Make sure there is at least 6 inches of space around it in every direction. The first night we had it buffeted right up against the canvas and the tent was really hot. Moved it a few inches away and it was fine. 5. Make sure there is always something in it. Cooling by itself doesn't get that cold. But adding a couple of tinnies really helps (thermal mass heat transfer) 6. We found the thermomenter to be a bit off. -2 seemed like good temperature for a few tinnies, butter, milk and of course bacon. Nothing froze at that setting. One of the best camping purchases we have made. Now if I can only find a good alertnative to an air bed...

I bought this for a recent camping trip and it did not disappoint. Firsty off I should mention that I was able to power this in fridge mode from a 100w solar panel and a 12v 115Ah (1.38kWh/1380Wh) leisure battery for 8 days (we did have full sun all day for the entire time and even this was at the limit of the 80w panel, so a larger solar panel and battery would be needed to cover partially or fully cloudy days). My power consumption was measured at less than 0.44kWh (440Wh) per day on average with the fridge set to 2 degrees celcius and the fridge regularly opened and items added/removed. This was in normal mode (not eco mode). The ambient temperature during this use ranged from around 15-30 degrees celcius. I have not tested this in freezer mode, but I am confident that it would do well and I may update my review in the future when I have had a chance to use it. In freezer mode I do expect it will use a lot more power. In fridge mode, it does take a while for the unit to begin to get cold after it's first turned on. Only the sides of the storage compartment get cold, infact so cold that anything against the sides risks getting frozen! (I had some meat slices that partially froze). Anything on the outside will get cold quicker than anything in the middle. But as the unit and its contents gets down to temperature everything does get equally as cold. Don't expect miracles on cooling speed - this fridge works no different to the one in your kitchen and can take many hours to cool down ambient temperature drinks. But it absolutely will get them icy cold with enough time. I am considering getting some very thin coolpacks to put in the bottom to help with the issue of slow cooling speed in the center, but that will be an experiement. The insulation is not perfect and I did find that the outsides feel noticably cooler than the ambient air. Measured with an IR thermometer it was a few degrees lower. For maximum efficiency you may want to add additional insulation to the sides, bottom and lid. The bottom did get noticably colder due to poor insulation, and the giveaway was the patch of dead black grass directly under the cooled compartment where it was fine under the compressor section. This said, for the price and construction this is something that can be overlooked and easily remedied with some insulating materials. In short, it did the job I expected it to surprisingly well given the price. It was a solid purchase which I hope will last many years of infrequent use.

We bought this to use for car camping, and on letting it settle for a day after getting it, we turned it on and put a bottle of water in the fridge to cool. It got down to temperature very quickly, and then I experimented with freezing the water - also worked a treat! I can see this being very handy to have in our car hoked up to a power bank, although you have options for running it off the car battery etc too. I think it will be very handy when I go to the shop to do a grocery run too as I will be able to easily transport ice cream now, whereas I was limited before!
