This is a great idea for a kitchen colander, but there are a couple of improvements that could be made. On the positive side, the colander is sturdy and appears to be made of quality material. I like the idea that it's stainless steel. I was very excited to use it because the round, three-legged aluminum colander that I had been using frequently tips over for me when I pour cooked pasta into it. I was disappointed that this colander wasn't quite long enough to rest securely on the sink edges, as my photo shows. Another half inch or so on each of the handles would have allowed me to use it in my sink as intended. Oh well, I thought. I'll just set it in the sink on my sink grate and pour the cooked pasta in. That worked fine, except that the configuration of the drain holes (not going quite to the edges) and the fact that the bottom is flat allowed water to remain in the colander. When I transferred the pasta to a bowl, a few tablespoons of water poured into the bowl as well. So if you want your pasta completely drained, you will need to use an additional strainer. The other issue that I had was in cleaning the colander. Because the two pieces aren't detachable, it's difficult to wash the area where the metal overlaps. I will use this colander for some things but will also keep my old aluminum one.

It slides into and out of it's fully extended length really easily, which is nice for setting it up and for cleaning it, but at the same time it makes me worry that if I were to just dump a bunch of pasta into it fast, or bump it, it would slide into it's smaller form and fall into the sink. Not saying that will happen, I just worry that it might. It is solid steel, easy to clean and also should be dishwasher safe on account of the whole being made of steel part haha. I have big sinks and it fits them perfectly if I lay it in front to back (the center portion of my sink is lower than the surrounding counter top. My other two colanders are on their way out and I am overall happy with this one. I was sick of using plastic ones that are either cracked, or just don't seem to want to come clean as they have been in use for over a decade. I feel like this one will last a good long time, and hopefully in that time I will either get over my anxiety about it bumping closed, or be able to report back and say whether or not the fear was valid. For now, I say buy it.
