Umami
This is the ingredient I never knew I needed to make great miso soup. This really brings that Umami flavor in. I am glad I found the recipe that included this. I will be keeping this in my pantry on a regular.

A must have for making Miso soup and so much more
I use this not only to make miso soup, but it is useful in other dishes. Put half a teaspoon in a 3 egg omelette. You would be shocked how much depth of flavor it adds. It can also kick up the depth of other soups, even canned soups. I like this size of container also. I transfer it to a jar for storage, and it keeps forever.

Exceeded expectations
I have never tried dashi stock but this well exceeded my expectations. It has that smokey fishy flavor from the bonito fish but in a very concentrated form. It also dissolves relatively easy for it being in granules.
