LEGO Bionicle Tahu and Takua 40581 - Action figures of iconic heroes, Red

Cool GWP that I missed out on that I can get now at a reasonable price! Very cool set for lovers of the original Bionicle!

Bionicle is 22 years old this year... originally releasing in 2001 as a spinoff of Technic, the original run continued until the early 2010s where the story ended on a slightly underwhelming cliffhanger. While the series returned for a VERY brief reboot in the mid-to-late 2010s, it vanished quickly from store shelves...until now. The GWP Bionicle set returns to the franchise's origins with Tahu and Takua, and even features a teeny-tiny diorama of the Mata Nui and Makuta statues from the opening scene of the first film. While I'm saddened by the lack of actual Bionicle pieces (which I can only assume Lego no longer own the molds for), the brick built figure is a fun build, but the masks seem a little rubbish, being simply curved ramp pieces with the designs tampographed on. At least there's no stickers! Despite the flaws, it's a lovely little set, and a nice desk piece too.

This was a blast from the past, growing up with Bionicle this took me back to my childhood and made me feel an overwhelming sense of nostalgia. The build was simple and intuitive, paying homage to the original toyline and I hope lego keeps this up and recreates the entire original line.

For the price abs collecting aspect this isn’t great little set. I do wish it was more bionicle scale and maybe even used a modernised bionicle head and mask but as a tribute it’s fun

Fun to build and brought back memories.

The set is amazing and feels like a love letter to Bionicle fans. You can tell the set was designed with care. The same cannot be said for the shipping. The problem is not with the product, but with the way it was handled. It was shipped in a plastic bag and the original Lego box arrived completely crushed. I'm surprised it wasn't open, but still, the "collection" value of the product is gone. Also, there's a huge Amazon sticker in the front of the Lego box. Couldn't it be added in the back? If you're interested in getting this set to actually build it, go for it, it's great! If you are looking for a product that's treated with care during shipping, and you can add it to your collection as a sealed set (or maybe you just like things to be done correctly), DO NOT BUY IT FROM AMAZON.
