There are two ways to adjust the distance: 1, Turn the dial toward the MIN for greater saturation over a shorter distance. 2, Low the water pressure to get a shorter distance.

Are traditional friction colllars available so that it can be set to spray more than a half circle but less than a full circle?

I don't know, but I suppose you could cut one "ear" off each collar to achieve the same thing.

Can it spray a 270° or 3/4 of a full circle?

Yes - you can get up to 360 if you pop the trip lever up.
