Student Bb Clarinet Reeds Strength 1.5 - Box Of 10 - by Carmichael (1.5 - 1 1/2)

New to clarinet so not the best reviewer to believe but helped me get started now looking at slightly stiffer but I think that’s personal to player?

I ordered a box of 1.5 clarinet reeds, however I have 3 out of the 10 reeds in the box that say they are 2.5 sax reeds. they look like the rest so wondering if just the stickers are wrong! I’m not overly worried as have plenty in the box to be getting on with but just something to look out for! Other wise very happy with them and the speed in which they arrived!

great value and work/last well best ones I have bought for a while. used by an eleven year old for music at school so ticks all the boxes

Playing a reed instrument is expensive because not only do you have to buy the instrument, but you also have to keep buying reeds so it can be tempting to seek out a budget option in the belief it will save you money in the long run. Big mistake! The reed is such an important part of a clarinet, you need a good one, so let this purchase be a slightly expensive lesson to me not to cut corners on getting reeds!What the hell are these things? Were they carved from lolly sticks? A couple of them barely sound at all. Several others sound, but are anything but musical, and make reaching certain notes impossible. Getting a good sound, or any sound, out of a clarinet is difficult enough as it is, but these reeds are just awful.Out of 10 reeds in the case, I've found one that is just about useable for a bit of practice - that is, until the more expensive ones I've just ordered as a replacement arrive! One out of 10 is false economy, and the sound still leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe I've happened upon a bad box, which can happen, but somehow I doubt it.The sound of the ones that do play is just horrendous! It's like playing a comb through a tissue! I'd be laughing at how bad they are had I not spent over £7 on them.Had I started out on these I would have given the clarinet up as a bad idea, in spite of my musical background. Luckily, I started on Vandoren reeds, which are more expensive but generally work well, produce a good tone and are easy to play on.If you're starting out, or have a son or daughter who is playing, and whom you are supporting, I recommend getting good reeds to work with. If you want a box of joke reeds to play a prank on a clarinet player, these are the babies you're looking for!

This is a good value purchase for student clarinet players. To the less experienced clarinet player these reeds are as good as many more expensive ones, and cheap enough to disgard if a different strenght reed is preferred.
