Small Victories: A Coloring Book of Little Wins and Miniature Masterpieces

Great pictures to color with a wide variety of content, all packed into a smaller book that I can tuck into my handbag for those impromptu long waits or downtime, when I need a moment to decompress. What is especially awesome about this book is that you don't lose the quality of the page just because of the size. Pages are thick enough for you to use pens without having the ink bleed or spread. I am absolutely in love with Johanna Basford's books. She is an incredible artist and I am always pleased with her books.

I've been following Johanna basford's work for a while now, and when I wanted to color this winter I decided to get her book! Love this book, bcuz it has so many small illustrations with a lot of detailing. I've enjoyed coloring this so far!

I had no issues whatsoever with the images. Nor paper being extra thin. It is just fine and a small book to do quicker coloring sessions in. Nice for travel.

I love it for when I want to take my coloring somewhere. There are lots of fun pictures of every variety. As a beginner, I found it very accessible.

I absolutely love her books! When I find them on sale even better! Her books are must haves if you enjoy coloring! Such a variety! Love them!

I love her coloring books! This one is the perfect size for a regular purse. Usually I have her coloring books in my church bag or a backpack. With this size I can fit the small book and coloring tools in a purse. With smaller pictures I feel “small victories” over finishing pictures or just part of a picture in less time than usual. I really enjoy coloring when I color at church. I can listen and keep my hands busy for any length of time that is necessary.

After browsing through reviews, I decided to pick up "Small Victories" as a way to unwind in the evenings and Im glad I did. The illustrations are charming and heartwarming, focusing on the little joys that often get overlooked, and the drawings offer a nice balance of detail and open space that makes coloring relaxing instead of stressful. I like that the paper is fairly thick and holds colored pencils and markers without major bleed-through, so you can really take your time layering colors. This is a great book to share with a child or to use yourself when you need a few minutes of mindfulness. My only wish is that there were a few more pages or perhaps more variety in the designs, but overall it's a delightful addition to my collection.

It seems like Johanna responded to my secret wish: this is a small jewel. I set a goal for myself: by the end of 2024 I will have completed it. It is a joy, don't miss it! Perfect paper, perfect images.

It’s as beautiful and whimsical as all her other books. Johanna Basford never disappoint.

Dieses Heft ist echt süß. ❤️ Egal wie viel Zeit man hat, für jede Situation gibt es die perfekte Größe. Von kleinen Blumen, über etwas größere Bilder bis hin zu Zeichnungen über eine komplette Seite ist alles dabei. Ich habe mir das Heft ausgesucht um über mein Kreatief hinwegzukommen und ein paar schnelle, kleine Erfolgserlebnisse zu haben und finde, dass es hilft. Alkoholmarker sollte man natürlich nicht nutzen, aber neben Buntstiften kann man locker diverse Gelstifte, Fineliner und Acrylmarker nutzen. Das gelbliche Papier ist schön dick und glatt. Macht Spaß darauf zu malen. Die Farbe ist praktisch, wenn man will, dass Highlights schön zur Geltung kommen, aber Aquarell sieht darauf nicht schön aus. Selbst die Pigmente meiner Albrecht Dürer schaffen es nicht ihre Pigmente zu entfalten. Mehr hab ich nicht getestet. Auf jeden Fall liebe ich jedes einzelne der Bilder sehr und auch die Tatsache, dass es nicht nur ein Thema gibt, finde ich toll. So kann man von Blumen bis Raketen alles ausmalen, worauf man Lust hat.

I’ve never coloured before, although I have recently started to try digital art - badly, although it’s enjoyable. I’ve seen these books for years but never really understood the attraction. But I’m constantly under pressure at work and can’t seem to turn off. So last night I decided to check these books out. Came across JB books and the write ups were positive. I also bought a set of Staedtler Ergosoft (lots of research) to use. They arrived early this morning. Initial impression was that the book one of quality. Beautifully presented. I specifically wanted a small book and something that I could complete quickly. Hence I bought small victories. It’s about 7 inches x 5 inches. I don’t know a huge amount about art paper, but it certainly feels like quality paper. I can’t imagine that pencil colour would bleed through to the next page. Lots of small projects throughout. Anyway I picked one, and made a start (the 1st picture). Didn’t take long, and I possibly spent longer choosing a colour than I did colouring, BUT I know that for the 7-10 mins it took me, I didn’t think of anything other than what I was doing and what colours I could use. It was definitely fun, and as I moved on to my 3rd and 4th project, I started to get a feel for the pencil, and when to add pressure and when not to. I’ll do a review on the pencils too. Back to the book. There are simply dozens of projects. It’s a super size to take on holiday, and the projects small enough to make you feel like you have achieved something. For someone with my personality, that is important. I have to feel productive in everything I do, so it’s nice to achieve something enjoyable in 10 mins. So, final thoughts. I need something to stop me thinking about my work, and to stop me scrolling during the night. It’s only been an hour or so, so I depict know if this is something I may continue, but on first impressions it’s fun and I’m in the moment.
