Great Quality
Very nice saya, Iโm only sorry that it didnโt fit my Masamoto knife.

Temper your expectations, this is a $10 saya
I would temper any expectations about this product looking or feeling great. If you look on the market for gyuto sayas, they're all at least 2-3x the price of this product. I bought 7 sayas as to pair with knives I bought as gifts. All I needed was something that looks decent -- it basically served as a prop that can withstand some light/infrequent use too. The wood is soft, the glue isn't very strong, and the rubber pin is made a least half a millimeter too wide for the hole. I split the glue holding the saya together on a few sayas when I tried to remove the pins . For ease of use, I ended up shaving down the rubber pins with a razor until it fit the hole better. It's not an incredible product, that's for sure. However, for something that costs the same as a Chipotle bowl, it gets the job done. It for sure fits the 210 mm gyutos I bought: Sakai Takayuki Damascus Hammered VG-10.

Perfect
This saya fits a 7" Santoku knife perfectly. I wanted something to protect the blade, primarily the edge, of a handmade Japanese knife. Sure...the dealer where I purchased the knife had a saya available, but their price was $50.00! This one does the job just as well for a fraction of the price. Highly recommend!

Breaks immediately, mercer is poor quality
This sheath cracked as soon as I replaced the pin to keep my knife in it. When I tried to insert the pin on the other side, that cracked as well. I tried working with their customer service but was told that they cannot help me. Another knife sheath (plastic) from this brand also cracked within days of inserting an 8" chef knife. Honestly disappointing that the sheath is the correct size but such poor quality that I need to find another product.

Too small for my knife, but...
Im pretty suprised, i have pants from this company so i expected better quality. To be fair my knife is a little too big for it so i never really got to try it out, i kinda just threw it in a drawtill i have a knife that'll fit it. Seems cheaply made, the little plug that you take in and out is very tightly fit so i could hear the wood cracking as i tried to take it in and out. Its pretty, it looks cool, if you got a knife at home and you want something cool to put it in then sure, but as someone who works in a kitchen i wont be taking it in my bag.

Measure Your Knife
The saya for the 8" chef knife is very well made, and functions as it should. Handle carefully and pass it down to a grandchild. Do not complain about the saya not working if you attempt to use it for something other than an 8" chef's knife. Do not complain about the saya if you do not know how to measure correctly. The description gives very detailed measurements, so do not blame the saya or the manufacturer for your incompetence. I like the grain of the ash wood, and it will not stain my carbon steel chef's knife. Everything is well sanded and smoth, with no splinters or rough spots. A light coat of cutting board oil will protect the finish nicely. Very good product for the money.

Wood is not treated, so if it gets damp, it will be moldy. The retaining pin is also too short to reach the other hole. It is also not tapered, so it's difficult to pull it out (had the pin be longer, at least I can push from the other hole to remove the pin). Need to oil the wood myself and modified the retaining pin for it to be usable.

Fit on my gyuto knife

I usually just buy plastic knife guards and although they always split down the middle I was always happy just to know I was a bit safer with it in my roll. This wooden Saya looks great and mimics my damascus knife on one side. It has a rubber plug/lock and won't come undone (as far as I know). I'm very impressed and will be putting one on all my knives, probably one at a time.
