One of the the best from John Wayne who was about the only one not to receive an Oscar nomination for this movie

The movie itself has been reviewed on many occasions so this review confines itself to the quality of the dvd production and any problems with the disk itself.The quality of the video is excellent, sharp and clear, and is the best I have seen in the multitude of releases of this particular movie; every other version I have seen lacks the clarity that comes with this particular release. The subtitle track matches the English soundtrack perfectly as far as I am able to ascertain. There is another subtitled version with both Chinese and English subtitles which suffers badly in comparison with this release.The only downside to this very beautiful production is that Paramount/Viacom have gone to utterly absurd lengths with DRM in order to prevent disk copying and while the disk should play properly in a standard dvd player, there may be difficulties if the disk is played for personal use in a laptop or desktop computer. Some playback software will play this dvd, but some will not. As always, DRM hurts the legitimate consumer.

The Quiet Man has been my favorite John Wayne movie since I saw it the first time on TV one Saturday afternoon when I was probably 16. I especially like the scene where John Wayne drags Maureen O' Hara back to the house spanking her. I can't believe I found this movie on Amazon. Really great site for hard to find items.

D'Ozu aux frères Cohen, de Lubitsch à Kaurismaki, il existe une tradition du cinéma sans effets spéciaux, sans stars (en tout cas, pas forcément), qui parle d'un être humain (le réalisateur) à une être humain (le spectateur) grâce aux efforts d'autres être humains (scénariste, acteurs, producteurs, machinistes, cameramen... et toutes les autres professions du cinéma) pour raconter des histoires d'êtres humains. Ce film est un film de ce genre, malgré la présence de John Ford, le réalisateur, et de John Wayne, le héros de la plupart des western du précédent, ou plutôt grâce à eux, cas ils avaient vraiment du talent, ces deux-là ! Une histoire pleine d'humanité, qui plaira à tous, profondément.
