AKG K141 MKII Semi-Open Supra-Aural Headphones

Having got them out of the box I first compared them on my mobile phone with the AKG K420's i have and at first was disappointed as they were much quieter than the 420's even with a headphone amp. I then tried them in my laptop with the headphone amp and they were pretty good. After 15 minutes or so I kept noticing that I had to reduce the volume on the laptop as they were getting louder. I assume that these need to "run in". Then about half an hour use they sounded excellent.If you like music bass-heavy then these are not for you as the sound is very even across the whole spectrum, playing the music as the producer intended for which I can see why these are often the cans of choice for professionals. I find the sound sometimes is too good as I have now noticed with some of my mp3's (at 128kbit to latest FHG encoding) I can even hear some of the "metallic chipping" that can occur with lossy formats at lower bit rates which I have normally not noticed before on other headphones except where the original source material was poor. Also you will quickly find music tracks where the producer has used "dirty bass", autotune, compression or timestretching of vocals will be noticeable on these as they are so good at reproducing every part of the sound spectrum.I would advise if using these with lower power devices such as Laptops, Mobile Phones and MP3 players if you want decent volume that a headphone amp is used, but be warned when driven with a headphone amp or hi-fi these can go very loud without any distortion so be careful with your hearing!UPDATE: one thing to be aware of is I have found when using them with a high power headphone source (in this case an Aiwa AV amp) the bass is very strong but at loud volume the drivers can hit their stops so-to-speak so even though no distortion the drivers can start sounding like a pair of overdriven speakers which I imagine would damage the headphones long term.

Just received my headphones in very short time (3 days from placing order)Sound quality is superb, I already had the old version of this new model for fifteen years but they were not suitable for the new LCD TV I have just bought because of the high impedance (600 Ohms). These are almost identical in appearance (silver not gold finish)and same great sound. Three metre lead is good for sitting in my armchair in comfort watching my DVD's.Delivery was excellent and I was able to track my package through the website of the carrier.

I have used these headphones for about 4 years at this time.Build Quality: 10/10-After such a long time using them, taking them to school in a rucksack and generally not being very nice to them, the headphones have taken it all in their stride. These things are built like a tanks.-I did break the 3.5mm connector on one of the two supplied cables but that was entirely my fault and nothing to do with the build quality. As they are removable I was able to simply pick up a third-party cable for ~£7.I feel like I could drop them out my two story window and they would be ok. I might not try it though.Soundstage: 6/10The semi-open back provides a nice sense of space (more than most closed or in-ear headphones I've heard), but unsurprisingly not nearly as much as an open-backed pair. In this pair, semi-open seems to be the 'worst of both worlds', in that much of the energy, the punch is lost, with not enough gained in terms of soundstage.Frequency response: 7/10-As studio monitors, these guys are made with a nice flat frequency response in mind. The mids and highs sound balanced and controlled, however the lowest of the bass tones are lacking. The bass may sound rolled-off compared to many other pairs of headphones.These headphones are great for all kinds of classical, Jazz or other acoustic music. Their clarity does also lend itself to electronic music but some EQ may be needed to make the experience enjoyable enough.To sum up:These headphones live up to the name 'studio monitors' as they are just that; intended for clear, balanced sound. They can take a serious battering, but the thing that characterises these phones most is actually their lack of punch; lovers of bass heavy music beware.Having said that, they do the job they were intended for, which is why I am giving 4 stars despite the relatively clinical and boring sound they can produce.

Bought as a gift, the person absolutely love the quality of the sound and the quality of the headphones. Well worth the money!

Bought these to replace my Mk1 K141's disappointed to see that they didn't come with a 6.3mm adaptor.

Queste sono in assoluto le cuffie migliori che abbia mai usato in tutte le radio dove ho lavorato, e negli studi di registrazione. Per un home studio sono un bijoux che fa la differenza.Qualità veramente ottima del prodotto e del suono, non c'e' paragone con nessun'altra cuffia, secondo me. Le Akg sono sempre le migliori!

Der AKG K 141 hat mir über 6 Jahre gute Dienste geleistet. Durch das abnehmbare Kabel blieb es mir erspart immer wieder ein neues Headset kaufen zu müssen. Nach der Zeit hat sich die rechte Ohrmuschel vom Gehäuse getrennt, sonst hatte ich noch nie Probleme damit gehabt.Pro:Die Verarbeitung,abnehmbares KabelGuter Klang

They sound not so great for 6k but that is without any burn in. Will update when the full burn in has been done.Edit:After hours and hours of burn in they still sound trash and the pleather pads were worn off even without using it much.This new version is bad and so is quality control.
