Great item, works good but I can't use it because it was made in China and the software is from China.

I needed a Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP converter to go between a small network of PLCs, power meters, and genset controllers. Never could make sense of the instructions: specifically the application program(s) being in Chinese and the specific example for RTU to TCP just plain old didn't work, even after hours of messing with it. I've used a ton of other Waveshare products without any issues at all, but based on my experience and the experience of another user I know in meat-space, anything Waveshare with "to ethernet" in the product description is too difficult to work with when evaluated in terms of my time. YMMV, but I'll stick with other more expensive but *easily* functional solutions.

To set it up to do Modbus to MQTT you need to run software (downloadable easily) and upload settings to the device. The whole process could be made much easier with a better UI (any UI?) on the device itself. More of a problem is that the user guide and the user interface are written in a perplexing approximation of English. Bottom line: it does work, but you will suffer trying to get it set up.

Ich benötige den Konverter, um eine Maschine zu überwachen, die entfernt in der Firma steht. Zum Firmennetzwerk besteht eine VPN-Verbindung. Die Software für Einrichtung und den Virtual-Com-Port konnte ich auf der Herstellerseite herunterladen. Die Einrichtung als TCP-Server mit fester IP dauerte 5 Minuten. Auf dem heimischen PC den Virtual-Com-Port-Treiber (VirCom) installiert, in der Maschinensoftware den COM-Port entsprechemd der Einstellung von VirCom geändert und die Verbindung steht. Ich hatte erst Bedenken, da die Maschinensoftware während der Übertragung zwischen verschiedenen Baudraten umschaltet. Aber auch das meistert der Konverter problemlos. Von mir eine klare Kaufempfehlung! Entsprechende technische Kenntnisse sollten jedoch vorhanden sein.

Wenn man dann herausgefunden hat wie das Produkt heißt und wo man dann die Anleitung findet un d daraus entnehmn kann, dass die gestezte IP Adresse 192.168.1.200 ist, dann geht alles wie geschmiert. Hat mich zuerst geärgert, dass da keine Schnellanleitung dabei liegt mit der IP adresse, das Produkt in der Homepage von Waveshare nicht zu finden ist und dann im WIKI entdecken muss wie das Ding heißt, war ich kurz davor es zurückzuschicken. Hab dann alles entdeckt und das Gerät ist wirklich super einfach konfigurierbar und lief dann auch auf Anhieb. Rebootet extrem rasch und kostet sehr wenig im Verhältnis zu Moxa beispielsweise. PoE hat bei mir nicht funktioniert, aber hat ja netzteilanschluss mit großer Spannungs-Range. Hab dann weitere 3 Geräte bestellt. Nur 4 Sterne wegen fehlender Doku der IP Adresse.
