I bought this to replace an old Pfister 974-042 cartridge that finally gave out after an inconsiderate neighbor shut off / turned back on the water to our condo building without alerting anyone. The old cartridge had long been difficult to shut off completely, had low hot water pressure, and was now leaking out the front stem. This newer part supersedes my old 974-042 and includes a plastic clip-on spacer for compatibility with the older model. I will note that the spacer seemed just a tiny bit too thick when compared to the old cartridge, but I was able to install it without a problem. Installation is super simple with the included instruction (or one of several Youtube videos). I added a bit of silicone grease to the O-rings when installing to make removal easier in the future. Job was so easy I feel bad for not doing it sooner. Hot water pressure is back to normal and the new cartridge stopped the issues I had with getting the faucet to shut off completely.

This is an exact part match for my pfister shower. It delivers the water pressure and it stopped the leaking of the old part. It came with clear instructions but I recommend watching a YouTube video from pfister to install it.

The cartridge is incredibly well made. With a little trial and error, it was installed. However, any questions were impossible to answer by the poor instructions or non-answered calls to Phister. I would recommend another manufacturer for better customer support.

This worked like a charm. It stopped my faucet from leaking. It fit just right and I had no problems installing it.

Worked like a champ in replacing my failing original 15 year old cartridge. It looked slightly different than the original cartridge, but works better than the original cartridge ever did. It now works better than new.

I purchased the compatible part from Home Depot that looked like the one I had and screwed right in. After it not working I called the Manufacture's number since the only part number at Home Depot, Lowe's, and Stine, was 974-0420. When I called Pfister and informed them the last four on my cartridge had 440P she informed me the 0420 was replaced with 974-5299. I purchased it immediately. I just finished assembling it and it is working like I never replaced it. No noise, easy to install, controls the water pressure. It's only been 30 mins, but ai have been turning the water off every night from the shut off valve from the garage for a week, so if I can save someone the headache and money spent at the parts store.... 974-5299 JX8 instead of 974-0420 if you see 440P inside the cartridge.

Perfect fit for Pfister single handle. Tried many parts from the store. They all have water hammering issue. But this one is really good.

No more leak from our old 10 year one it seems. Hopefully this one lasts more than 10 years. Be sure to check that the model is compatible with the system you have and are taking out. Test your old one and check the pictures before buying. Pretty easy to install thanks to online videos.

Straight forward re & re. Overall functions fine. But being plastic, be careful during removal, as it is more susceptible to breaking, especially into pieces. If that occurs, make sure to reference your newly purchased cartridge to ensure nothing is left in the valve body during reinstallation of the new cartridge.
