Silverline USB Soldering Iron 8W (463429)

First let me start by saying this iron works lovely off of a suitable battery pack and that both battery pack and soldering iron may go to ‘sleep’ when no load or vibration is detected ie the sense circuitry detects the iron is not being used and turns the iron off. That means the iron may appear to only work intermittently. This may be obvious! The Red LED on the iron shows it’s heating up. Now that’s cleared up all I have to say is that I used the iron I bought to complete a little project that involved soldering a bottle jack connector, 3 variable resistors, numerous caps, resistors, a 16 pin IC and header pins to make a signal generator. The iron did a good job. To be fair I think this is a decent enough soldering iron for use on PCBs and small jobs indoors. It may not have the power to cope with outdoor use or large cables but that’s no reason to knock it; use the right tool for the job.

Little or no heat Wouldn't melt the solder

Ok, let’s get the bad stuff out of the way. It’s not going to handle big jobs that require lots of heat with large solder pads. It doesn’t have enough ambient heat to transfer solder over larger targets. That said, this is absolutely PERFECT for those quick repairs and small electronic jobs where setting up your industrial model takes longer than the job itself. It heats up and cools down in seconds and is really nice to handle. Those fiddly little joints that you can’t get the standard tips near, due to ambient heat melting the surrounding equipment / wires, can be handled with ease. I highly recommend the use of 0.6mm 60/40 rosin core solder, because it compliments the fine tip perfectly. In summary, this is a great backup for your main soldering setup, for those quick jobs that don’t require the use of multiple tips and heat settings and a great compliment to your soldering setup. Edit: ok, mine went wrong. It just stopped heating up. I was annoyed because it’s a really handy little iron. However, I contacted Amazon and completed a returns form and they sent me a replacement, which arrived next day. Now THAT’S service. I really couldn’t be more impressed, so it maintains its five star rating for excellent after sales care 👍🏽

As you would expect really. Have only used it to solder normal wires (mains and vehicle) together or to finish off the same ends. It is super flexible (including off a power bank), heats us reasoaably quickly, and just about has enough heat. Good value.

This little 8 watt Silverline soldering iron is really very good. I repair quartz watches as a hobby, which sometimes involves fixing a failed electronic module. One problem is that the features on the quartz modules are very tiny so if soldering is necessary then one needs a tiny soldering iron, tiny solder and a microscope. This iron plugs into a USB socket and is ready to use within a few seconds, an internal red light showing that it’s on. It comes with a small but effective rest and if you leave the iron on the rest for more than about 15 seconds the red light goes off and the iron cools down. All that’s needed to wake it up is to touch the silver button on the side of the grip and it heats up again very quickly. Excellent gadget for small electronics repair jobs.

This small soldering iron works, and it's very quick at heating up, The tip is small, and ideal for the, hard to get at places. The only problem I have is, it keeps failing to heat, I tap the side and the indication lamp glows. All running off a USB socket. Really good idea, but it just needs a bit more quality.

Excellent piece of kit, switches itself off after about 25secs ish, but just touch the button and it’s back on, mine switches back on with slight movement not sure if thats intentional but is handy. I’ve been using for a couple of days now on pcb work and has performed flawlessly. This iron is designed for small pcb work or similar DON’T be expecting to work on anything larger.

I'm by no means a soldering expert but have done my fair share in the past. This was bought for a specific task on a boat but despite following the instructions to the letter it only seemed to heat up at random then was very short lived. Had to give up in the end and bought myself a cheap butane powered one instead ( https://amzn.to/2XyrfUi ). I was running this off a very heavy duty power bank on the boat and tested it off the mains at home before giving up. Shame because when it was hot it did solder nicely.

Snel geleverd, helaas moet ik het knopje heel hard indrukken wilt het gaan werken. Waarvoor ik het gebruik, is het even prima.

Bin beeindruckt, was das kleine ding leistet. Hat bisher alle kleinen und großen Lötungen sauber und mit ausreichender Wärmeleistung gemeistert. Für Leiterplatten Lötungen voll zu empfehlen.

Funciona genial, estoy super contento con la compra, calienta super super rápido, no me esperaba que cogiese tanta temperatura, y el consumo es más bien bajo, una poseen bank de las pequeñas dura mucho tiempo. Infinitas veces mejor que un soldador a gas. Por cierto, para los de las críticas negativas. El soldador funciona perfectamente, solo hay que tirar del tapón, no desenroscarlo, si lo desenroscas lo que haces es quitar la tuerca que une la punta al soldador y no funciona.
