Twelve South AirFly SE Bluetooth 5.0 Transmitter for TV/Airplane to Wireless Headphones – Wireless Adapter for AirPods, Airplane, Car, Gym, Home, Use With Any 3.5 mm Audio Jack

We do quite a few long haul flights for our holidays, and grew tired of the headphones given out by cabin crew; they're uncomfortable and you cannot hear the move/music over the general cabin noise. I wanted a way I can use my Apple AirPods Max to use on a flight. Step forward the Twelve South TS-2259. What an amazing little gadget! It works a treat, pairing is simple (best to test it at home before boarding the plane). You'll need to buy an adaptor that fits the dual 3.5mm plug on the plane, but that's it. I charged the device ahead of a recent 17 hour flight to Japan and it lasted for the whole journey. When researching these gadgets, I noticed people saying there was a lag between seeing people speak on the screen and hearing the sound. If this gadget has a lag, I didn't notice. I really can't praise it enough, it's small, holds a charge, is simple to use and even comes with it's own little carry case. One of the best things I have bought for a flight; allowing me to use my headphone's noise cancelling feature for 17 hours is the best ever!

This was so good I bought two more for my daughters! Really good idea that lets you pair your own headphones (which lets face it are so much more comfy than the ones you get on any aeroplane) with the inflight entertainment screen Charges quickly and kept going for the 10 hour flight with no problem. Be aware that for those in UK, these only work on long haul flights as shorter hauls don't tend to have any input socket on their screens.

I think the construction and design of these is great. In that respect I can't fault them. My purpose with these was to add Bluetooth to my Ipod Classic - which only has a wired socket. They paired easily with my Airpods Pro 2 - as long as you do it with the airpods in the case and the lid open as stated in the guide! The sound quality has been fine and I have had no issues with it being too quite - though I would not use them in a line out socket - only a headphone Jack. My only disappointment is that they do have some fractional latency and so depending on what you are using to play videos, there is a very slight sync issue between the video and audio. This is not such a problem if - for example with VLC - you can control that, but if you have no sync control then this could be quite annoying. So using them on a plane for example, might be tricky. However if it is just for audio there are no issues. I probably wouldn't buy them again because I find the latency limitation a little irritating - even though they do what I needed them for - I like to have options! If they could sort that out there would be perfect!

I was looking to make life a bit easier for my 85 year old father-in-law, who says he is too old to start learning about streaming and downloading music. I bought this on the advice of a young lad in my local Currys who said this was the best and simplest solution. It enables any bit of old audio equipment with a 3.5mm jack plug to be converted to bluetooth for use with wireless headphones, you can even play your old vinyl out the back of your turntable. Its so easy to use and its rechargeable so no messing about with batteries. The look on my father-in-laws face was priceless when he realised how far he could wander off with his wireless headphones, it was like he had discovered a new miracle. Superb item and relatively inexpensive. Its smaller than a Babybel cheese, comes with a USB charging cable and its own little velvet travel pouch with a usb charging cable.

I travelled from the UK to America with United and wasn’t sure if the in flight entertainment screens would be Bluetooth enabled or not. I always prefer to use my own headphones as they are vastly superior to the earbuds that airlines provide. I read conflicting reports on the availability of Bluetooth on United planes, so to hedge my bets I bought an AirFly. I’m very glad I did because when ny holiday finally rolled around, it turned out that neither of my United flights had Bluetooth. But thanks to the AirFly, all I had to do was plug it in and my headphones worked perfectly with the IFE. Connecting was simple, the sound quality was crystal clear, volume was nice and loud, and the battery lasted for the duration of my 11 hour flight and beyond. The AirFly isn’t cheap and I debated whether or not to buy it due to that, but I’m so glad I did because it solves the problem it’s designed to solve perfectly. Also it’s a one-time purchase that guarantees Bluetooth connectivity for every flight you take from now on, so when you consider it as a long term investment it’s really worth the price overall. The majority of planes still don’t have Bluetooth connectivity so it’s something I will use for a while to come.

Worked perfectly on TUI Dreamliner 787 I think it was, from Manchester to Orlando. Used it with Bluetooth KS kitsound overhead headphones. No time delay on the sound that I noticed. Will be keeping it to use on my next flight next year and may even buy one for hubby! Defo a good little gadget to have! Comes boxed and includes carry pouch, charging cable and instructions not that I needed them as it was simple enough to work out without.. Overall happy costumer!

Doesn’t work. Very hard to connect

The device is compact and lightweight and holds its charge well. The only problem is that it just does t really deliver when it comes to watching in-flight movies while travelling. I have tried this with Apple AirPod Pro and Bose QC Ultra and the delay in audio sync is noticeable. It’s not completely unwatchable but it’s enough to spoil the movie or show. For those reasons I can’t rate it any higher than a 3star. Great little device but does not work as expected.

Due to the delay added in the audio path the video and audio get out of sync. This makes it very annoying to watch any movies in flight.

Très pratique pour utiliser mes écouteurs ou mon casque Bluetooth dans l’avion. La connexion est stable et l’appareil fonctionne comme prévu, rien à redire sur l’efficacité. Par contre, pour un usage ponctuel (on ne prend pas l’avion tous les jours), le prix est un peu élevé, j’ai eu la chance de l’acheter pendant une réduction. Malgré ça, je ne regrette pas : c’est un vrai confort en voyage.
