the maze runner 4k Ultra-HD [Blu-ray] [2014]

This is a hugely entertaining and intriguing dystopian SF thriller with overtones of the Lord of the Flies. The protagonist is Thomas, a 16-year boy who wakes up inside an underground service elevator which stops at the surface, a large grassy area (The Glade) enclosed by tall, stone walls (The Maze). Thomas has no memory of his identity and through his perspective we discover that the group of male youths who inhabit the Glade have formed a rudimentary society with each boy assuming a specialised task. The ‘maze runners’ are tasked with exploring and mapping the surrounding labyrinthine structure with the purpose of finding not only a way of escape but also a reason for their predicament. The movie has echoes of Vincenzo Natali’s SF horror film The Cube with the Maze’s moving walls and has a similar level of prolonged tension and resolution. I was genuinely gripped by the well-paced narrative and the film held my attention to the very end with glimpses of a post-apocalyptic world. An excellent addition to the genre and I will definitely be watching the sequel.

I highly enjoyed watching this film in the cinema. So much I got it on bluray. It is based on a book of the same name, but I have not read the book before the film. Which I prefer to do, seeing books tend to get better ratings then films etc. I really enjoyed the story and the action of the film, although there were parts when I got confused. For a post-apocalyptic film, I found this more entertaining then most meeting my exceptions, as I rarely see these types. That said, it was more the sci-fi part that grabbed my attention. I really loved this movie and the bluray is in great HD and as you get a digital copy you can have a copy on the go no matter where you are.

This is a great film. Action from beginning to end . Well worth the money.

After reading the book, I was very enthusiastic to see the words brought to life in what was described as a 'Major motion picture'. Unfortunately, all the best bits of the book were sucked out in order to fit it into a suitable running time. The depth of the plot and the characters were both lost and simplified at every possible opportunity. It was still a decent adaptation, but it just doesn't compare to the book. I'm sure if I'd have watched this without reading I would have enjoyed it as much as others - However, others I watched the movie with felt exactly the same without reading a single chapter. A rushed production. Many say this is common in films, sometimes true, but this didn't occur in my opinion with other books in the same genre. Both 'The Hunger Games' by Suzanne Collins and 'Divergent' by Veronica Roth looked fantastic on the big screen. Overall, take a punt and buy the movie if you have enjoyed similar films in the past but prepare for possible disappointment if you have read the book beforehand. Do not let this review put you off buying the book if that was on your agenda though - It really is a must read!

I purposefully wouldn't read the book before I saw the movie because I wanted to go into the movie not knowing what would happen. I tend to read the books first and get disappointed by the movie adaptation (i.e. Percy Jackson movies?). Enjoyed the movie immensely but felt it went by too quick. Not a knock on the movie, just didn't want it to end. I found myself pulling for certain Gladers and got annoyed when/if something happened to them. I think I even yelled at my screen a few times for all the help that did. This isn't on the level of Hunger Games good, but it's quick good in it's own right. Glad to see they are already filming the next book.

"Maze Runner - Die Auserwählten im Labyrinth" ist eine aufwändige Science-Fiction-Produktion, die auf die Buchvorlage "Die Auserwählten – Im Labyrinth" von James Dashner aus dem Jahre 2009 zurückzuführen ist. Der rund 109 Minuten lange Blockbuster wurde im 2.40:1-Bildformat durchdacht und mit Blick für Details in Szene gesetzt. Drehbuch, Kameraführung, Synchronisation und Schauspieler werden höheren Ansprüchen gerecht. Etwas störend ist für einige vermutlich das offene Ende, welches unmissverständlich auf eine Fortsetzung hinweist und das Weiterverfolgen der Reihe unnötigerweise erzwingt. Aber an mehrteilige Filmreihen hat man sich inzwischen ja nach etlichen ähnlich konzipierten Kinobeiträgen inzwischen gewöhnt. Der vorliegende, dystopisch akzentuierte Jugendfilm hält trotz einer immanenten Vorhersehbarkeit nicht nur tricktechnisch, sondern auch inhaltlich einige wirklich gelungene Momente bereit, wenngleich seine unmittelbare Nähe zu dem Roman "Herr der Fliegen" von William Golding (1954) unverkennbar ist. - - - Fazit: Empfehlenswert! "Maze Runner - Die Auserwählten im Labyrinth" ist ein spannendes und unterhaltsames Big-Budget-Movie in dichter und mitreißender Atmosphäre. Das Buch als Vorlage ist dramaturgisch allerdings feiner ausgearbeitet und die cineastische Umsetzung verwendet das literarische Original lediglich als Grundgerüst. Eine direkte Gegenüberstellung von Buch und Film ist somit eher müßig. Sowohl Sammler, als auch Gelegenheitskonsumenten dürften bestens unterhalten werden, insofern sie der Produktion nachsehen, sich inhaltlich teilweise der Ideen anderer bedient zu haben.
