This is a seriously solid lock that gives you a real sense of security. The U lock alone is thick, heavy, and feels virtually tamper-proof. The included flex cable is a great addition, giving you more options to loop through your wheels or around awkward railings or posts. I’ve used it to lock both my frame and rear wheel with the U lock and then looped the cable through the front wheel. That versatility makes a big difference in urban areas where secure anchor points aren’t always ideal. While it is heavier than cheaper alternatives, the added weight feels justified by the protection it offers. I’d much rather carry a little extra bulk than come back to a missing bike. My husband said it Feels really sturdy and well built. The lock mechanism is smooth and doesn’t jam like cheaper ones he's used. It’s got a good weight to it without being bulky to carry. It gives him confidence leaving his bike locked up. A proper bit of kit if you want security and peace of mind.

The lock is excellent in how sturdy it is. It’s a good deterrent. However, it’s not the easiest to lock and unlock and is impossible to mount on an upright ladies bike with the mounting provided. It’s also very heavy. However, it’s easy enough to put in a pannier. Having two cables is also a godsend. It’s a good, solid lock and would buy again if my husband ever decides to get a bike too.

Although it's not going to stop power tools getting through it it's still well worth the money and much better than cheaper alternatives. It will easily stop the opportunistic thieves and Kryptonite's CS is very good as they offer key replacements amongst other things.

Always used Kryptonite products and never had an issue. Good quality and sturdy.

Good solid bike lock, needed to have gold standard for my bike insurance and Its suitably heavy and sturdy to make my bike feel safer.

The key would not turn properly without it sticking. The lock was very stiff… I think it was manufacturer fault and when I contacted them about getting it fixed they just gave a generic lubricate it email. I tried this and it still does not fix.

Cet antivol semble solide. A l'usage le U est un peu court pour bien attacher un VAE à un point fixe. Le câble permet d' y arriver mais c'est probablement moins sur qu'avec le U.

I bought this to lock up my new e-bike, which is vastly more expensive than the ancient MTB it replaced. I wanted a lock that was secure enough that I could leave the bike outside a shopping centre, for example. According to the registration page for Kryptonite, this is a v.1 Kryptolock. The listing doesn't say which version it is. The lock is solid, strong, and large enough to fit around my large tyres, through the chunky back frame, and around a bike stand, locking the bike securely to the stand. The cable is long enough to loop through the front wheel and around the lock, providing you loop it properly. The result seems really secure, so casual thieves (which seem to be the norm in my city) won't take a second glance. Be aware that better equipped thieves can cut through both lock and cable quickly, so it may not work in a big city. My bike's frame doesn't have room to mount the lock, so I can't comment on the mount. I carry the lock and cable in my backpack and they are not too heavy for that. One common complaint is the key getting stuck part way in and so not turning. I did struggle with this twice, and a bit of silicon spray lubricant sorted it out quick-smart. I always close the protection tab over the keyhole, but regular silicon lubricant is clearly needed. With that the key is smooth and easy to use. This lock has so far been exactly what I hoped for. If I move to a more insecure area I would order a higher security lock, but why spend more money when you don't need to?

I bought the previous version of this cheaper U-lock from Kryptonite back in 2011. I live in a city where bike thefts are extremely common and yet my bicycle (a Nishiki hybrid) was never stolen. Unfortunately my Kryptolok developed the key jam issue and no amount of lubricant or even using the spare key helped. I therefore went for this newer model which now has a Gold rating instead of a Silver rating of the earlier model. I was pleasantly surprised that the bracket had been improved as with the earlier model I always had issues with detaching the lock from it. This new bracket is more adjustable, easier to tighten and the lock detaches effortlessly. The U-lock itself is nicer as now the key hole is at the the center of the lock which means you are less likely to put too much pressure on the key when locking and unlocking. The key hole cover is also much easier to use as its just a small cover you slide on top of the key hole. I did think about buying a slighly more expensive and secure model but in my opinion this is probably the best value bike lock you can find (the general opinion at least in my location seems to be that U-locks are better than any other lock type and Kryptonite is usually more durable than Abus or some other brand). Highly recommended for the price!
