KNIPEX Alligator Water Pump Pliers Self-Service Card 250 mm, 88 01 250 SB

Unless you are a tradesman you don't often need this type of tool,but as a DIYer when you do need one you really know when you don't have one handy. My old slip joints (fromToolstation) were awful. They were true slip joints in as much as the joint slipped as soon as you tried to grip anything!I thought that I'd upgrade to Knippex as they are amongst the best. I couldn't justify the expense of Cobras (I don't use them enough) so I bought the Aligator version. I was initially disappointed when I saw how narrow the head was...I expected something more substantial. However this is actually a very good thing....the tool has a really good grip, is well engineered and really strong. The narrow head means that you can get into tighter spaces with poor access. Quality tools stand out when you use them.....these fall into that category. As a DIY'er these are ideal but if I was a tradesman I think I'd have gone for the Cobras as they seem to be a little more adjustable. I couldn't justify the expense but a plumber or sparky could. I'll put what what I saved towards another quality tool!

A trusted part of my kit

I've pictured the rothenberger pliers as to compare them with. As you can see they offer not only more adjustment, but a much wider jaw in comparison, but also the ability to grip smaller nuts etc better as the centre of the jaws close together much better. It's one of those products where most of them are so close it is hard to compare and they all look the same. But these knipex pliers really come out on top. I'm hoping the jaw surface lasts a lot better than the rothenberger ones, but time will tell. So far straight out of the packaging, I think these are the best I've seen in this particular size.

A great nut tighten

Excellent grip, replaced a broken C.K.water pump plier. Had had them 20plus years, hope these do the same.

Good price and was only about a Euro more than my Bacho one . It feels a lot better in the hand than the Bacho and the slide more freely as well.

Great quality. Bought some cheaper ones after I had my tools stolen, but quickly got fed up with them. As soon as you have decent grips you realise it's worth the extra. These get used all day, 6 days a week and are still like new.

Honestly the best grips I've owned! The teeth grip really well, ad the angles on the head are perfect for the electrical work I carry out, conduit, bushes, lock rings! Brilliant!
