Fairfax Media (Australia) Review: Detailed and helpful! - A very detailed book with chapters on every district of Cosat Rica and then further divided into towns and national parks. Helpful "local" knowledge pieces and lots of recommendations for things to do and place to stay or eat. It has been very helpful in planning our tour and has enabled us to book hotels and transport confidently. We don't vitis for another 2 months but I am sure this book will be well thumbed ! Review: Great for planning our trip - Hugely useful in planning our trip to Costa Rica, giving us some top tips that supplemented our research on the Internet. Would highly recommend.

The much loved format is gone!
In short, if you want a guide book - don’t buy it. Contains no useful info eg addresses (as they are in CR), opening times, useful maps, how to get somewhere, travel times - which could be easily forgiven in the internet and Google age if websites were included. They are not. Lots of beautiful photos but that’s not why you buy an LP - at least not why we have bought dozens over the last 25 years. It has gone back, and we’ve bought another CR guide. I wish I’d read these and other reviews about LP publications in general as there as been a fundamental redesign of the format in approx 2023 majorly impacting their use as a traveller and making them more like a travel magazine or brochure from a travel agent.

I hate the new LP layout
I am trying my best to use this guide but the new LP layout is awful. Why are the maps so washed out? The sections include more images and graphics while the text has become fragmented . This is a first year design students project that takes no account of usability.

Disappointing
I have had Lonely planet for over twenty years and have been very happy with their format, however they have changed it and I wasn’t happy. I always found it easy to find good restaurants now only a small review and no clear directions not easy to navigate. The paper is so thin it’s difficult to read. Such a shame

Dumbed-down guide
I have used LP guides to plan most of my travel for many years and have always found them good, but I was so disappointed with this Costa Rica guide. The new format seems to result in a lot of superficial information - and even the superficial things I wanted to know, such as restaurant recommendations were limited and presented in a confusing way. Worse, for me, was the complete lack of background information about the country - I have always found the sections on history, environment etc. really interesting. I'll be using Rough Guides from now on!

Classica Lonely Planet
Classica guida Lonely Planet. E' arrivata parecchio in ritardo poiché era la prima ristampa ma io non avevo fretta e ne ero consapevole.

Loved this book as an addition to my research
I did a lot of research before going to Costa Rica like I do with any trip and this book was an amazing addition to my research. Very easy to read and great information especially when it comes to all the ins and outs of Costa Rica. Side note is I would absolutely recommend this book and visiting Costa Rica.
